Christopher Landsea, Ph.D. Branch Chief- National Hurricane Center- NOAA Christopher W. Landsea is the branch chief of the Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch (TAFB) at NOAA’s National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami. The branch generates wind and wave forecasts for the Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, tropical North Atlantic Ocean, and tropical northeastern Pacific Ocean. The TAFB supports the Hurricane Specialist Unit at NHC by providing tropical cyclone position and intensity estimates based on the Dvorak technique. You can catch his keynote speaking session “Hurricanes & Global Warming: Expectations Versus Observations” at The Natural Disaster Expo next February!

MEET THE HEROES Jenny Locy Marketing & Training Director - AQI Services Jenny has became one of the first two Deaf persons in the State of Florida to become FEMA CERT Instructor. She holds her PADI Rescue Diving certification and Emergency First Response/First Aid & CPR. She’s collaborating with Florida CERT Programs and Emergency Operation Centers, providing access to disaster preparation and relief for individuals who are deaf and hard-ofhearing. She is a constant advocate to major media companies to keep the sign language interpreter on camera during emergency press releases. Jenny’s keynote session “Emergency Communication: You Are Not Reaching Everyone” will cover the dangerous lapse in reaching those that are deaf or hard of hearing in critical communications.

MEET THE HEROES Todd S. Bridges Ph.D Senior Research Scientist for Environmental Science - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center Dr. Bridges is the U.S. Army’s Senior Research Scientist for Environmental Science. He became a Senior Professional (ST) within the U.S. Army in 2006, where his responsibilities include leading research, development and environmental initiatives for the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Dr. Bridges’ research activities support goals related to resilience, sustainability and environmental management. His primary areas of research activity concern: 1) the science and engineering of sustainable infrastructure development; 2) risk and decision analysis methods applied to water resources infrastructure and environmental systems; 3) management of sediment and environmental contaminants; and 4) natural systems engineering. Todd will be discussing “Engineering With Nature® to Reduce Long-Term Risks from Natural Hazards” at The Natural Disaster Expo in Miami!
