PS Artbooks aims to make available - either for the first time or as a reprint - volumes of artwork-based material, sometimes the sequential work produced by the pioneers of the four colour comic, sometimes simply paintings or posters, in collectible but affordable limited editions produced to the highest achievable standards.

BEFORE
AFTER 1. Restoration
2. Content & Design
3. Printing
The biggest and most time-consuming task in creating our publications is finding the best source material. Using our ring of collectors and “people in the know” we hunt down suitable items.
Using the latest design software, we take great care and attention to detail, in order to create a PS Artbook. Designs are contemporary but authentic when placed next to the subject matter.
When we’ve designed the perfect printed piece, we need to put it on paper. But which paper? We take time and care to select a paper that suits the subject matter.
For our books we prefer to use the original issues rather than reproductions, thus preserving authenticity. Once the issue/image/ artwork bank has been created we begin restoring the images ready for print.
A lot of time is spent researching and validating information for the books. We are very proud to have exclusive essays written by renowned authors for our publications and also not forgetting the wealth of artists who have created special artworks for our deluxe editions!
For our Artbooks we choose a high quality satin paper that really brings out the colour in the imagery and gives the reader a real sense of quality.
We choose not to re-colour the images as this gives a completely different atmosphere and a fake look or feel. We do however “repair” colours that have faded over time and also digitally repair any visual anomalies such as splashes, tears and other artifacts that have appeared - nothing is perfect if you’re half a century old, of course!!
For our comicbook reprint editions we choose a paper that will do two things: give the best vibrant colour plus mimic the original texture that the original publication was printed on back in the day. All our editions, whether hard cover or soft-backed, are created to stand the test of time. For our exclusive tray cased editions a quality leather is used so the book and its contents are completely protected.

Ed Emshwiller 1925 – 1990
Ed Emshwiller studied art at the University of Michigan, the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, and the Art Students League in New York. Beginning in 1951, the astonishingly prolific Emshwiller created cover and interior art for more than two dozen magazines including Galaxy, Amazing, Fantasy & Science Fiction and Startling Stories, along with hundreds of book covers, both hardback and paperback. He and Frank Kelly Freas were the undisputed rulers of the sciencefiction art realm during the 1950s and early 1960s, and among the few science fiction artists of the time able to make a decent living from their work. Emshwiller shared the first Hugo Award for Best Cover Artist with Hannes Bok in 1953. He won further Hugos in 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1964. He
often signed his science fiction artwork “Emsh.” As a science fiction artist, Emshwiller worked fast and skillfully, seeming equally at home in every science fiction illustrative mode, whether dramatic, symbolic or humorous. His style was vigorous but polishedseeming, though his actual lines (especially in interior artwork) tended to be rough, assured and full of character. In the 1950s he represented a definite step up from the colorful crudeness of most illustration for the pulp magazines. Emshwiller also painted abstract expressionist canvases for gallery exhibition and worked in experimental filmmaking. “Dance Chromatic” (1959), his first film, and “Thanatopsis” (1962) are
still remembered. He turned to full time moviemaking in 1964, thereafter doing only occasional science fiction artwork as a favor to friends. His 38-minute “Relativity” (1966) is regarded by many critics as one of the greatest short films ever made. This second career was notably distinguished, the Museum of Modern Art being one of many bodies to recognize its importance. In 1971, he began working with videotape, then a very new medium; and he was artistin-residence at the Television Laboratory, WNET/13 in New York, winning more awards. He later (1981-6) became provost of the School of Film and Video at the California Institute of the Arts. Emshwiller was married to noted author Carol Emshwiller.
