Oc c as ionall y the two organizat ions meet- together for mixed c horus practice. It is possible to arrange for private instruction' on the piano, and . in the near futur e individual in s tru c t-ion - on all band and orchestral instrum ents will be offered. In con ncctio11 with the instrumental work there is an orch e stra and a fine band. Students who play in s truments adapted to either of these organ iza tions are urged to bring them to school. Tl1e State Normal School Band is the prW e of the school, and well de s erves s uch distinction. Th e band is in great demand on various pubUc occasions throughout the year. Two band concerts .are each year : an indoor concert in the chapel in March, and an ou tcloor concert on the in Commencellle-nt Week.

Military Training
It is hardly necess..'1.ry to say the ajm of instruction · discipl_ine in military training is not to make. swual soldiers. Th ere is a hi o·her and nobler end m view. ::> The strictly utilitarian i¢1.ea, the question' of putting into practice in actua\ warfare the skill knowled!re, and expe- ' rience acquired by such training, is at most of only secondary importance. Th e object is the production o.f perfect men, or at l east to attain as neady as possible ·that ideal. No exercise is better adapted to the making of a fine physique than the different setting-up drills and the various exerdses prescribed for military use. CL'he strain is not spasmodic and un eqti.al, but gentle and ·even. Every is brought into, action and the whole physical system thereby
