The great were once as you They whom men magnify today, Once groped and blundered on life's Way, Were /earful of themselves, and thought Ry magic Was man's greatness wrought. They /eared to try what they could do; And fame hath crowned with her success The selfsame gifts that you possess. The great Were young as you, Dreaming the very dreams you hold, Longing yet fearing to be bold, Doubting that they themselves possessed The strength and skill for every test, Uncertain of the truths they knew, Not sure that they could stand to fate, With all the courage of the great. Then came a day when they 7 heir first bold venture made, Scoring to cry for aid. They dared to stand to fight alone, Took up the gauntlet life had thrown, Charged full-front to the fray, M asfered their /ear of self, and then Learned that our great men are but men. Oh, Youth, go forth and dol You, too, to fame may rise; You can be strong and wise. Stand up to life and play the manYou can if you'll but think you can; T he great were once as you. You envy them their proud success~ 'Twas won with gifts that you possess. - 路 811

IN MEMORIAM In our busy every day life we become so preoccupied with our duties, an d so ingrossed in our work, that we work for only things material a nd earthly, forgetting those which are of fa r greater importance,-n ame ly, things heavenly and eternal. Hence, the Omnipotent find s it best to m a ke us pause to consider from whence we came, and whither we are going. Miss Mabe l E. Marshall worked in our midst and w as one of us. She was taken ill December 14, 1923, and was called to her final resting place on Janu a ry 14, 1924. As students al)d faculty members, may we p a use to pa y tribute to her memory! May her example of devotion, loyalty, and integrity so permeate our lives that we may forget self in the greater service of the Master. As a n instructor, she was conscientious, sincere, and kind, willing to assist an y one at any time. As a friend outside of the class room, she was loyal, true, and unselfish. Her quiet unassuming character was felt most by her closest friends. Let us pray th at her passing, will make us a little more kind, a little more unselfish, a little more Christ-like! May He who in His wisdom has summoned her to "that home not made by hands, whose Builder and Maker is God," may He be her parents, her relatives, as well as our guide, our strength, and our courage:-and May WE so live th at when OUR "Summons come to join the innumerable caravan, which moves To that mysterious realm, where e ac h shall take His chamber in the silent halls of death, Tho u go not, lik e the quarry slave at night, Scourged to his dungeon, but sustained and soothed By a n unfa:tering trust, approach thy grave, Like one who w ra ps the drapery of his couch About him , a nd li es down to pleasant dre a ms."
