Of these, forty were graduated last Comme n ccrnent Day, s ix in th e Higher ::tnd t hi rty-four in the Elen:e~- ' tary Course, represen t in g in a ll twenty co unties in the state. This IS but little m o re than an ave rage of t he n umb~rs graduated annuall~ for the last five years, but in the rrteantime the school has risen to a higher plane in point of well-direct ed effort, and a nnrked improvement is manifest in the ge n e ral culture, moral tone, and professional enthusiasm of a ll its students. The principle of self-government has been so fully developed on the part of the students that to common observation th e sc h ool a ppears to b e self-regulative. A large maj~rity of the stude nts h ave n ot b een absent from chapel exercises nor m1ssed a recitati o n d uring the fall te rm , and t his has been true of rnany of them for the whole sch o lastic year. Of the whole n umber of students in attenda nce t his year, 15 7 are young ladies, a nd 1 I7 you ng gentlemen . z6o of them a r e from N eb raska, a n d 14 of them are from other states. They r epresent 38 counties and 4 states. T heir average age is a little over zo years.
