Waterline exposed after torrential rains sweep in from Hurricane Florence One lane of highway closed; water pressure may be lower while repairs are underway by STEVE MANN STOKESDALE – One lane of a segment of U.S. 158 is closed and residents on the town’s water system are told they may experience lower water pressure this week while a bypass
for a section of the Town’s waterline along U.S. 158 West is completed, officials say. The bypass is being created because of the waterline being exposed and in danger of breaking after torrential rains from the remnants of Hurricane Florence eroded a steep bank. The work began Wednesday and could take about five days, said Gene Robertson of Yates Construction Co. One lane of U.S. 158 between the
intersection of U.S. 158 at N.C. 65 and Kelly Lee Drive will be closed while the work is in progress. “If everything goes smooth, in five days we’re gone,” Robertson said. “But, there is a threat of rain for two or three days – hopefully, it will get done in a timely fashion.” The Stokesdale Town Council called an emergency meeting
