Up, up and away – family fun to soar at RidgeFest 2019

Oak Ridge resident and Merchants of Oak Ridge (MOR) member Randy Floss has been the driving force behind RidgeFest since its inception. RidgeFest 2019, sponsored by MOR in partnership with the Town of Oak Ridge, runs this Thursday, May 30, Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, at Oak Ridge Town Park.

OAK RIDGE – RidgeFest is adding a second stage for local musicians and hot air balloon rides to its three-day festival which kicks off Thursday, May 30, at Oak Ridge Town Park. In its 11th year, this annual festival has grown from a country fair initially held in the elementary school parking lot to the town’s biggest annual event, said Randy Floss, RidgeFest’s organizer.

STOKESDALE – Stokesdale Mayor John Flynt, Mayor Pro Tem Thearon Hooks and council member Frank Bruno are being criticized by their two fellow council members for recommending an increase in council members’ monthly stipend. In recent weeks Bill and Tim Jones have claimed the three other council members have already voted themselves a 300 percent pay raise in the proposed FY 2019-2020 budget and the increase is neither justified nor responsible. Although a stipend increase has been recommended, the increase has not yet been voted on, Town Finance Officer Alisa Houk told the Northwest Observer earlier this week.
