EDITORIAL FERGUSON: A SOLUTION By Phil Seahorn October 10, 2014 The black community in St. Louis is now known worldwide. All across the world, people saw American military tanks and military deployed against Americans in American streets. And it happened right in the mostly community of color, Ferguson, Mo. The sight of American police and military equipment being aimed at the poorest and most disenfranchised segment of American society exploded on the social media sites, and
then on news outlets online and off. Jay Nixon was immediately called to account, harsh criticism likening the events in Ferguson to “his personal “Katrina.”And all this within a matter of a few days. AND WHERE WERE THE LEADERS OF COLOR? They waded in (including our President), while news outlets as far globally as can be from Ferguson, MO (like on the other side of the fucking world) weighed in, dove in, hell, the entire world media took over the ocean of news that literally erupted from my home town. As a lowly Internet content provider (we used to be called bloggers), if I can see the far reaching ramifications of Ferguson on the global arena (example: Washington University will suffer because who the fuck wants to send their kids to a city that was the site of tanks and rioting?) are very, very real. This is an actual OPPORTUNITY for St. Louis to not only snip the racial problem in the Lou’ in the bud, BUT DO IT ON A GLOBAL STAGE. Or, as Morris Day might put it: “show out.” Even with the acquittal of the police officer who shot Michael Brown (c’mon, even with Holder and the boys, public opinion on a national scale will force the St. Louis police, political, and old world St. Louis powers not to crumple and give in to prosecution. They know full fucking well who’s watching them, and watching them carefully). The decision on that St. Louis policeman will make the Rodney King and O.J. debacle look like a summer day on one of the hottest days in St. Louis. You know: hell on earth. Or, in the case of Ferguson, hell on streets around the country (both white folks and black folks)as they erupt.Americans, who are already very, very angry at the American government will seize this as a perfect opportunity to vent that rage. We (as in the folks in this country) don’t have a choice: there has to be a solution to Ferguson, Mo. The consequences are just too fucking insane to contemplate, especially in this economic climate in this country.
MY TAKE ON WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THE FERGUSON MISSOURI DEBACLE THAT WILL LITERALLY PROPEL THE REGION INTO A GLOBAL SOCIAL AND BUSINESS COMMMUNITY,BENEFITTING WHITE AND BLACK ST. LOUISANS Every rich motherfucker in the St. Louis, St. Louis county, hell the state of Missouri (and I mean RICH BLACK FOLKS AS WELL) gotta pony up and fix this shit, like
(name) had to fix the 1865 stock market crash (yeah, one rich man saved the country back in the day). What I propose is not only within reach, but completely timely, as suggestion number six can not only be funded by crowdsourcing, but crowdsourcing on a global scale. This will create hundreds of jobs for St. Louisans (white and black) ,propelling St. Louis economics into the 21st century. FIRST OFF: the fucking schools SECOND: the fucking neighborhoods THIRD: create community banks (this actually happened back in the day, it worked, the government pulled the plug). FOURTH: create community safety nets of IMMEDIATE, ACTUAL REAL WORLD HELP: food banks, kitchens, and/ or community grocery stores, utility aid (whole bill pay, not just part of it), emergency loans, and shelters. FIFTH: recruitment of REAL FUCKING BLACK LEADERS, to build political strength in Washington for the communities of color in the St. Louis region. SIXTH: create a business and media community right in Ferguson. Create a place where world captains of industry can see that a region strife with turmoil can turn itself around. The Black Panthers did all this shit back in the day. It worked, and as stated above, the government pulled the plug on it. So, where are the Panthers today? Fuck, where are all the so called black leaders, who should see this Ferguson situation for what it truly is;
COMMUNITIES OF COLOR IN THE UNITED STATES FINALLY GOT THE MOTHERFUCKING SPOTLIGHT!!!!! Let’s run with this shit. And it would be ESPECIALLY meaningful if a whole lot of St. Louis white folks got behind this, if it was a sincere effort by communities of color in the St. Louis region to “lift up” instead of rioting and protesting. I mean, c’mon, this is not the sixties anymore. Communities of color today in 201 4 in America have access to the same tools the majority has used for social control in the United States for hundreds of years.
St. Louis: seize the stage. Ferguson has put you there. Now, use it to
out.
