SPEAKER profiles PHIL KILLINGLEY Deputy Head, OZEV

CHRIS CHAMPION Senior Delivery Lead, Transport Scotland

Phil is Deputy Head of the UK Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), which is responsible for a multi-billion pound programme to drive uptake of zero emission vehicles in the UK. He has worked for OZEV since 2016, leading teams on overall strategy, vehicle incentives, public communication, local delivery and innovation. He has over 15 years of experience in transport and environmental policy including roles in air quality; road traffic operations; rail and aviation strategy and regulation; and local transport strategy and funding.

Chris has over 20 years’ experience in the automotive and transport sectors. He carried out awarding winning research in electric vehicle disruption, as part of his Master’s degree in Business Administration, before joining Transport Scotland. Chris has led on several projects, most recently the Switched on Fleets initiative, which has seen the introduction of more than 2400 zero or ultra-low emission vehicles, and associated charging infrastructure throughout Scotland’s public sector. An EV driver and a renewable energy user and advocate, Chris also enjoys keeping up to date with the latest technologies and supporting the transition to a low carbon, sustainable future.

ROBERT EVANS Chief Executive Officer, Cenex

Robert Evans is CEO of Cenex, a not-forprofit consultancy and research organisation with a strategic focus on supporting supply chain and market development for Automated, Electric, Connected and Shared mobility. In his role as CEO, Robert has overseen the development and delivery of a range of low carbon vehicle technology projects including for electric, hydrogen and gas vehicles and recharging\refuelling infrastructure projects. He has also established Cenex-LCV as the UK’s largest technology showcasing and networking event for the low carbon vehicle community and launched Cenex-CAM for Connected Automated Mobility. Prior to joining Cenex, Robert worked for 18 years with Johnson Matthey, 10 of which were spent developing international markets for energy, environmental and automotive technologies, including fuel cells and vehicle emissions control for cars, buses, trucks and off-road vehicles.

Joscelyn is Senior EV Infrastructure Policy Advisor for the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) with a focus on Consumers and Innovation. Joscelyn is the government lead for the Electric Vehicle Energy Taskforce, which is currently producing proposals for Government and industry on how to ensure Britain’s energy system is ready for the mass uptake of electric vehicles, whilst keeping the consumer at the heart of the preparations.

Owain Mortimer is Technology & Innovation Manager at the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). Owain works closely on the decarbonisation and automation policy agendas, focusing on the challenges industry faces in these areas and the technological innovations needed to reach these goals. He is interested in developing policy and supporting industry to create the transformative solutions needed for a sustainable and effective transport sector. Owain previously worked in local government on decarbonisation of transport and on UK climate and carbon policy more widely in the third sector.

Shayne Rees has worked in sales and marketing roles focused mainly on business customers in the energy sector for the last 20 years. Much of his career has involved promoting low-carbon solutions to energy and business challenges, especially by helping EDF’s customers better work with changing regulations, policies and technologies to achieve their carbon reduction goals. Shayne now leads ubitricity’s efforts to help councils and businesses use the company’s lowcost charge points to accelerate the adoption of EVs and improve local air quality and take action on the more global challenge of climate change.

Having started his sales career at Rank Xerox, Jonathan has worked in most sales roles from business development through to sales director at IT companies, telecoms, Sony PlayStation, IT disposal companies, IT consultancy & recruitment. Having played rugby to a decent level and coached kids & adults, Jonathan is now more of a watcher than a player, and is more likely to found on his electric bike than on a rugby pitch. Jonathan lives in Dorking, Surrey with his wife Jill and has couple of grown up kids living in London.

Ryan Robertson, EV Infrastructure Officer, has been in the forefront of developing and expanding the EV charging network across the county in recent years and East Lothian Council is now one of the leading Local Authorities when it comes to the number of accessible EV chargepoints. Over the past three years more than 80 chargepoints have been installed with at least one central hub with multiple chargepoints in the six main towns of Musselburgh, Tranent, Haddington, Dunbar, North Berwick and Prestonpans and in response from local residents who don’t have private driveways a number of residential hubs have been provided offering overnight charging. For people commuting by bus or train into Edinburgh, there are also 16 additional 7kW chargers where cars can be left all day. Ryan’s role within the council is continuing to develop and he is now also helping to develop integrated transport hubs which will support local bus services as well as electric bikes and pay-asyou-go car hire.

Stewart joined LeasePlan UK in 2018 and has over 25 years of experience in Vehicle Leasing. During this time, he has worked in both New Business and Relationship Management roles across a diverse range of clients operating cars, vans and also specialist vehicle/HGV fleets within a varied range of industry sectors. Stewart manages the North of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland territories for LeasePlan covering both Corporate and Public Sector opportunities within LeasePlan’s New Business Sales team.

James has over 30 years experience in public sector procurement and category management working in a number of different categories such as Energy, Building Services, Special Projects, Travel and for the past 10 years, Fleet. In his current role James is lead for the Commercial Agreement Management team, whose responsibility it is to manage the following Agreements; Vehicle Purchase, Vehicle Lease & Fleet Management, Supply & Fit of Tyres, Vehicle Telematics and Vehicle Conversion, including undertaking both supplier and customer relationship management for these Agreements. James is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).

Grant has worked with Scotland Excel for 12 years overseeing around 20 collaborative framework contracts covering fleet, roads, environment and ICT. This portfolio of framework contracts has an overall contractual value of over £1bn. As a fully MCIPS qualified Procurement and Supply Chain Management professional Grant also holds a BA Honours degree in Economics. Prior to Scotland Excel, Grant worked with a wide range of organisations in the private sector covering manufacturing and service industries. In addition, Grant has extensive procurement and supply chain knowledge that extends to the systems, processes, public sector governance and legislation which plays such an important role in public procurement. Other areas of experience include food and drink, facilities management and electronics.

James joined Toyota in November 2018, to oversee the north of the UK, handling their public sector fleet and business customers. With extensive experience in the fleet industry under his belt, through his time with Nissan GB and JCT600, his knowledge has become integral in communicating Toyota’s Self Charging Hybrid Technology to SME’S and Public sector organisations across the north and Scotland, and he has helped and supported these organisations to make the switch into new , cleaner technology.

Iain MacLeod is a technical manager in Energy Saving Trust’s Edinburgh transport team. After obtaining a master’s in Renewable Energy Development from Heriot Watt University, he started working at Energy Saving Trust in 2014. His work is focused on facilitating Scotland’s transition to electric vehicles.

Murray runs Munro Wilson, a Borders-based renewable energy installation business. Munro Wilson help householders and businesses get rid of anything that burns oil, installing heat pumps, solar PV and electric vehicle charging. As part of inspiring and enabling this change, Munro Wilson is committed to a 100% electric fleet, operating the Citroen e-Dispatch vans for all installation work.

CARL STANTON Fleet Sales Manager – East England & London, Volvo Car UK

Carl has worked in the Motor industry for over 25 years in a variety of different roles in the UK and Europe in both Fleet and Retail. He is responsible for Volvo’s relationships with the key FN50 and also Fleets of over 50 vehicles; ensuring that Volvo’s products are well positioned to optimise sales in the Fleet channel.

SPEAKER profiles MATHEW KIZIUK Northern Regional Manager for Fleet Sales and Dealer Development, Maxus

Mathew was appointed Northern Regional Manager for Fleet Sales and Dealer Development for Harris MAXUS UK, part of The Harris Group. With 17 years’ experience in the auto trade including 7 years’ working with electric vehicles, Mathew has been heavily involved in the EV revolution, including within his former role as Regional Development Manager at Renault UK as well as his involvement with The EV Café. In his new role at Harris MAXUS UK, Mathew will be responsible for looking after fleet customers from Birmingham up as far as Scotland, as well as Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man. His role will also involve developing and assisting the Harris MAXUS dealer network in these areas. Mathew has vast experience in dealing with large volume fleet customers and currently holds the record for the UK’s largest EV deal, where he supplied an impressive 1,100 vehicles to electric car subscription service ONTO. Mathew added, “I am humbled to be offered the opportunity to join MAXUS at the start of its journey in the UK, I feel we have a market leading proposition in the world of electric LCV’s and some game-changing products in the pipeline over the next couple of years. I look forward to introducing the fleets of the North to the MAXUS brand.”

SIGMUND CRAIG-GOULD Travel Manager, NatureScot

SIMON KING Director of Sustainability, Social Value and Fleet, Mitie

Sigmund has 14 years’ experience managing NatureScots vehicle fleet. He has overseen its transformation of the fleet, putting the organisation at the forefront in the Scottish Public Sector in the move to electric vehicles. He has enabled the organisation to be in a position where they should have 85% of cars/vans being electric by the end of 2021/22, along with EV charging points at the majority of sites. A keen cyclist and runner, Sigmund is now looking at areas where active travel (including eBikes) can be used to help the organisation achieve its Net Zero targets as well as improve the health and well-being of staff.

Simon’s experience in procurement, sustainability, commercial and operations has him well placed for his current position at Mitie. Fully understanding the challenges fleet operators face making the switch to EVs, Simon specialises in Electric Transition and brings commercial understanding and strategic thinking.

KATE ARMITAGE GF Ambassador & Event Host

Kate specialises in Electric Vehicles, Recharging Infrastructure and Energy Retailing and was the first recipient of the GREENFLEET EV Champion Award in 2014. She has been a strong advocate of the electrification of transport since 2010, heading up the EV Team at EDF Energy, and subsequently as Projects Director at Route Monkey. Kate is an Associate for Delta-ee, providing insight and consultancy support for their Electric Vehicles & Electricity Service. Kate has been involved in a range of ground-breaking projects including the design and technical specification of the recharging infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympic Electric Vehicle Fleet. She has worked closely with OEMs, Infrastructure providers and Energy Companies across Europe.

Energy Saving Trust Energy Saving Trust helps organisations cut their transport costs and carbon emissions. Funded by Transport Scotland, an agency of the Scottish Government, we provide free impartial advice and support. We also administer grants and interest free loans to support more cost effective, low carbon transport. Our free sustainable transport review service helps organisations in Scotland pinpoint ways to start to become more

efficient with their transport and travel arrangements. By becoming more efficient you are likely to save money and cut your carbon emissions too. So far our sustainable transport coordinators have provided bespoke transport advice to 1,300 organisations in Scotland, and have identified average annual savings of over £16,000 and 31 tonnes of carbon dioxide for those who received a sustainable transport review.
