------- T H E R O A D TO 2 0 3 0 B E G I N S H E R E ------Welcome to GREENFLEET Cymru Today you join us in Wales for GREENFLEET Cymru. With the support of our headline partners, the Welsh Government, Transport for Wales and Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders this event demonstrates that the move to zero-emission vehicles can be smooth, cost-effective and simple. The event is hosted entirely online and with no need to travel you will gain free access to keynote presentations outlining the latest regulation and policy standards, and hear from solutions providers who will drill down into the purchasing decisions that are suitable for you, your fleets, your infrastructure and your project goals. Business and fleet operations and best practice examples of how to clean your fleet come from Swansea Council and covering charging & infrastructure is Carmarthenshire County Council who is responsible for the imminent opening of a new dedicated electric vehicle charging hub located in Cross Hands. The innovative hub will serve the public and business fleets alike. @GreenFleetNews

Swansea Council Swansea Council is a mix of rural and urban areas, serving approximately 250,000 citizens as the second largest city in Wales. With a large and varied fleet of some 850 vehicles, Swansea Council have been using, and steadily increasing, electric vehicles in their operation since 2011. Recognised as the Green Fleet Public Sector Fleet (Medium to Large) winners in 2018, Swansea has continued to build its ULEV profile with 46 full electric and 6 hybrid vehicles
now in use and a Green Fleet Policy implemented to drive the transition. A further 50 electric vehicles and 5 hybrids are due for delivery early in 2022, with another 25 due to be ordered before March, making Swansea Council one of the largest public sector Green Fleets in Wales. The recent introduction of an UltraLow Emission Vehicle Strategy 20212030 set out the strategic delivery programme to decarbonise by the end of the decade and meet the Council’s Net Zero commitment by 2030. swansea.gov.uk

Carmarthenshire County Council Located in the south-west of Wales, the county of Carmarthenshire has an ambitious EV Charging Hub project underway. Soon to be opened in Cross Hands, the Hub, predominantly to be used by the general public, will also charge company vehicles, enabling all drivers to make use of the facility a first of its kind in Wales. The council intends to build on its work to date, after some 10 years ago the council became the first local authority in Wales to introduce electric pool car vehicles for staff to
use. Six years ago the current fleet of refuse and gritter lorries were renewed and the council procured Euro VI vehicles with reduced emissions technology which were the most advanced at the time. As these vehicles fall due for replacement the council is trialling electric powered bin lorries for future use. Changes have also been made to refuse collection routes to reduce vehicle mileage. Next year, working in partnership with the Wales Government and Transport for Wales, the council hopes to introduce electric buses on the Traws Cymru Carmarthen to Aberystwyth bus route. carmarthenshire.gov.wales
Transport for Wales Transport for Wales (TfW) was set up by the Welsh Government in 2016 to oversee public transport in Wales. In December 2020, TfW took responsibility for managing the Welsh Government’s Active Travel Fund to improve walking and cycling routes. Today, and in line with the Welsh Government’s Electric Vehicle Charging
Strategy, TfW now invests significantly in the delivery of EV charging infrastructure projects across the country to encourage its citizens to make the switch to net zero transport. During the Coronavirus pandemic, in February 2021, Transport for Wales group was created as a wholly owned not-for-profit company by the Welsh Government. tfw.wales
Welsh Government In 2019, the Welsh Government set out its ambition to renew the Welsh economy as part of the global transition to Net Zero emissions by 2050. To achieve this goal a major investment programme is underway in Wales. In many sectors, the Net Zero transition will bring real savings, as people use fewer
resources and adopt cleaner, moreefficient technologies like electric cars. The Welsh Government is supporting people and businesses to adopt low-carbon solutions as high-carbon options are phased out. By the early 2030s all new cars and vans will be low-carbon – largely electric. By 2040, all new heavy goods vehicles should be low-carbon. www.gov.wales
