DEAR PSI COMMUNITY PSI KYIV IS A WORLD CLASS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL. OUR INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITATIONS, INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE WORLD SCHOOL STATUS, IB DIPLOMA RESULTS AND THE LIST OF UNIVERSITY OFFERS FOR OUR STUDENTS ALL INDICATE OUR HIGH QUALITY AND A SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL YEAR.
A
s I reflect on the 2014 / 2015 school year (my second year at the school),
it is the
students’ improvement rates that impressed me most, as they are a strong indication of the students’ high work standard, particularly as so many of them are working in their second or third language. I congratulate the students on their achievements and thank the parents for their partnership in the learning process.

Assessment (ISA) results in reading, writing and mathematics in Grades 6-8 tell us that most students are meeting or surpassing international grade level standards. In January, we gave out Honours or High Honours awards to more than half of the students in Grades 6-12. But academic excellence is only part of the picture. A high level of participation in after school sports, clubs and activities tells us that our students are leading balanced lives and pursuing their passions. However, I think it’s our CAS and Service Learning programmes that are really at the heart of the Learner Profile and the school. The Back to School Picnic, held in the school recreational grounds, was a great opportunity to welcome new families, get together with old friends and give the children a chance to play together - a perfect way to start the new school year.
CHEESE & WINE AND MARKET TOUR For all newcomers at PSI, both parents and teachers, PTA organised an evening of fun, wine and cheese. It was a nice occasion for both working and non-working parents to mingle with staff and teachers in a relaxed atmosphere. The PTA also organised a Market Tour where new families at PSI were taken on a bus and walking tour of relevant shops and markets.

GLOBAL COMMUNITY ANNUAL STORY
THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE AT PSI IS SHAPED BY A SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY, WHEREBY STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND PARENTS WORK TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS OF CREATING INDEPENDENT LEARNERS AND GLOBAL CITIZENS IN ‘A PLACE WHERE WE BELONG’.
We anticipate PSI students will become active, inquiring learners in pursuit of their individual journey towards excellence. Almost every graduating student moves on to tertiary education. At the same time, a broad range of opportunities and experiences are valued at PSI, both in the country and abroad. They are provided through our Afternoon Activity Programme, Special Events Calendar, our many service projects and our involvement in the CEESA network of schools. PSI also has a strong commitment to community service and action. 32

AN IB WORLD SCHOOL SINCE 2000
AS A RESULT OF THE SURVEY RESPONSES AND SUPPORTING COMMENTS, THE FOLLOWING RECOMMENDATIONS HAVE BEEN MADE.
SURVEY SECTION SECTION 1. COMMUNITY RELATIONS
RECOMMENDATIONS & ACTIONS Parents are to be well informed about school activities and events through very clear weekly communication processes with an effort not to ‘double up’ on the same information being sent. 5.5 - The Board will continue to expand their methods of communicating about their work, projects and achievements with the PSI community.
SECTION 2. EDUCATION PROGRAMMES
School leaders will provide families with opportunities for information and classroom observations designed to expand the knowledge of academic standards for grade levels. The ASA Coordinators and school leaders will define a process to monitor the quality of all ASA offerings and replace low participation ASAs with more popular options each season.
SECTION 3. LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
The Board will complete its development of the Phase 2 Building Project and establish a building timeline with the community. As additional language options cannot currently be offered, opportunities for extending our Mother Tongue programme will be encouraged and facilitated in the next year.
SECTION 4. ANNUAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
SECTION 5. GENERAL COMMENTS
The Learner Profile will be used as a focus at meetings and presentations with school families to increase the understanding of its purpose and value in the school’s identity. Current school transition strategies (moving from PYP to MYP to DP) are reviewed, updated and strategies are well communicated with the families involved.
Several notes have been made about working parents and school meetings and events timing. This needs additional investigation and then adjustments made to ensure this group is catered for throughout the school year. General feedback in this section often ‘hits’ on school procedures. These items need to be listed and then reviewed with each business department. Appropriate actions and timelines for development will be set with the Business Manager.

This table displays the School’s financial performance over 3 years including our forecast for the new 2015 / 2016 school year. The Ukraine crisis is a significant issue for the school over the past 18 months, resulting in a decrease in expatriate student enrolments and revenue as a result. Careful financial planning and lowering of expenditures has been required during this period.

ENROLMENT ANNUAL STORY
STUDENT NUMBERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS AS THEY MAKE UP ALMOST ALL REVENUE. IN TURN, THIS ALLOWS SCHOOLS TO RUN ADDITIONAL PROGRAMMES AND MORE SUBJECTS FOR STUDENTS. PSI HAS GROWN TO A SCHOOL OF 400 STUDENTS SINCE IT OPENED IN 1996. The enrolment had been quite stable and was growing every year over the past decade until 2013. In the 2013 / 2014 academic school year, the enrolment dipped due to the difficult political and economic situation both in Ukraine and in Kyiv itself. This pattern continued in 2014 / 2015 and is also anticipated for the next school year. Although there is not a specific goal to grow the school strategies are now planned and documented to keep a ‘strong enrolment’ aimed at 450 to 500 students. 54
