2021 IM PA CT REPOR T “PERS EVERE & FLOURISH ”
Overview & Reflections from Chair
INTRODUCTION Brothers and Friends of Psi Upsilon, I am proud to share with you the 2022 Annual Report, which recognizes the overwhelming generosity of Psi Upsilon brothers including alumni, parents, directors, staff and friends. Thanks to this community’s support, Psi Upsilon received a record setting level of support this past year, which is particularly impressive, given that these contributions were made in the midst of the pandemic. I am sincerely thankful for your commitment to Psi Upsilon, our program and mission. Your donations helped our beloved Psi Upsilon remain resilient during the pandemic year, which, understandably, created unforeseeable needs and even more demand for support through scholarships, fellowships which we did without interruption and with greater gusto. We also recruited a team of content creators who receive stipends for their writing and interviews - a new way to support young brothers with a love of Psi U culture and a talent for writing and interviewing. I am most proud however of our continued free virtual speaker series which receives such accolades and now we are returning to in-person events, which was warmly welcomed by many brothers in December and will continue in 2022. A significant move of our archives and operations in Indianapolis took place over several months with many hands helping to organize decades of materials and treasures. In all over 100 boxes of were moved into a better temperature controlled environment and we are continuing to digitize more and more content for easy research and presentation. Every organization like ours depends upon the generosity of its community, and at no time during my tenure was that more apparent for Psi Upsilon than during 2021. Thanks to you, we have been able to not only persevere but flourish, providing members with a safe and enjoyable experiences, with no sacrifice to our usual standards. We challenged ourselves to think even more creatively than ever before, and I believe the fine content of this report showcases the strong return of your contribution. On behalf of the entire community, thank you for your unwavering support. Your in the Bonds,

27th Archons’
DO N O R R E CO G NITIO N & I N I T I A T I V E S : P AG E 1 0
The 27th Archons’ Academy consisted of 8 online educational sessions with over 16 hours of total programming. Sessions ranged in size from well over 150 undergraduates, to some smaller more targeted discussions with only a single represen¬tative from each chapter. Ultimately over 200 unique undergraduates visited the Archons’ Academy in 2021 – making it the largest educational event Psi Upsilon Fraternity has ever hosted! The academy opened on January 9th and had a traditional Archons’ Academy agenda, but the virtual format allowed us to not only invite Archons, but also both 1st and 2nd Angelos (Vice-Presidents). Attendees learned about the importance of our history and values; walked through what to do in a crisis, learned how to better think through a harm reduction lens; participated in a session around organizational leadership and Chapter capabilities, learned and practiced some fundamental goal setting skills, and rounded out the day with the nuts and bolts of reports, paperwork, and deadlines.

PROGRAMS PHIRED UP RECRUITMENT CERTIFICATION Recruiting in this turbulent campus environment was a concern of many members so we partnered with the fraternity recruitment experts at Phired Up and launched a recruitment certification program for all brothers to participate in. This program reviews the art and science of organizational growth from campus experts and includes videos, lessons, and additional resources to support individuals and chapters. ADVISOR TRAINING Designed for individuals of all ages and experiences who advise chapters, the Chapter Advisor Training Program provides the education and training that chapter advisors need to be successful, confident and prepared in their task of advising today’s college students.

CryptoCurrency Investing event in Chicago. Due to widespread interest we intend to revisit that topic in Chicago this summer. The Gilrane Economic Symposium was held in Greenwich, CT, to much acclaim from the great showing of attendees. Four distinguished panelists, John Thaler, Omega ’97 (Chicago), David Morse, Psi ‘83 (Hamilton), John “Jeb” Beckwith, Psi ’84 (Hamilton) and Omair Sarwar, Xi ‘06 (Wesleyan), discussed major trends in the global economy as we enter 2022, accompanied by robust engagement from the audience. “The energy of being in person with such an intellectually diverse group made this a momentous evening for everyone” said Patrick Gilraine, Psi ‘83 (Hamilton), in his closing remarks. The annual speaker panel, now endowed in Brother Gilrane’s honor, was followed by the first entrepreneurial pitch event of the FishFund. Three founding entrepreneurs representing their startups presented and took rapid fire questions from the audience. Rhoden Monrose, Beta Beta ‘09 (Trinity) of CariClub, Will Zhang, Omega ‘11 (Chicago) of OneChain Capital (his business partner is Alexander Clifford, Omega ‘11), and Jim Poore & Garrett Gleim, Tau ‘01 (Pennsylvania) of Immersitech who participated in the latter. The paid event brought together brothers from around the country and from 13 chapters. Next year’s GES and FishFund Venture Presentations are scheduled for December 8th, 2022, in the Greenwich, CT, region. 1. FishFund presenter Rhoden Monrose and panelist Omair Sarwar became acquainted with brother Gilraine through the Perfect Pint events in NYC. 2. Discussions were lively, with wonderful connections made both personal and businesswise. 3. Alexander Senchak, Eta ‘06, introduced the FishFund Venture Presentations. 4. Moderator Jeb Beckwith, Psi ‘84 came prepared.

Social Impact Fellowship
A UNIQUE PROGRAM IN THE FRATERNAL WORLD
Our communities and society face rapidly evolving challenges that have radical effects on people’s lives and the important work of organizations.
2021-22 Cohort of Fellows
The skills required of leaders are often not developed in programs that breed exceptional clinicians, educators, and policy makers. Conviction, self-drive and passion often generate great organizations and high impact movements, but to govern an organization, manage people, and navigate funding opportunities are responsibilities many first time leaders realize they need to hone quickly as they move into leadership roles or deepen their involvement with meaningful causes.
2021 Honorary Social Impact Fellow Dr. Barbara Hendrie • Kappa ‘80
Fishfund Senior Fellow Roberta Hunter • Epsilon Iota ‘ 94
For many, access to resources for professional development often come at a price well outside of the means of organizations or firms. For the benefit of their career, the organization, and society - we need to encourage growth of leaders and expand their abilities to push through new challenges and lead us well. Living up to the fullest vision of Psi Upsilon’s mission: “to aspire to moral, intellectual, and social excellence in themselves as they seek to inspire these values in society”, we encourage them to engage in volunteer and professional leadership positions throughout their life that will impact their communities and our society, serving as a role model for others.
Gamma Chapter Corporation Senior Fellow Dr. Brian Christie • Zeta ‘07
To encourage this, The Psi Upsilon Foundation formed the Social Impact Fellowship, a year-long program that supports leaders in social-impact driven professions - especially those just entering into a leadership role. Equal to the benefit of the funds is the honor of this award, bestowed on a select cohort showcasing their dedicated service to inspire the next generation of leaders in our chapters.

COMPONENTS OF THE PROGRAM
PROGRAM ELEMENTS
•Skills Development Stipend Identify and engage with a professional development opportunity using the stipend money budgeted. Fellows can use this money for a conference, class, coach, or other resource for individual development as a professional. •Workshop & Cohort Reception To bond the cohort together and learn from each other, we will convene virtual roundtable discussions during the year. The topics will be tailored to, and format designed for, the interests of the group and industry leaders invited as guests to moderate the discussion.
•Executive Coaching Fellows have the opportunity to work individually and in a group setting over a 4 month period with renowned leadership coach Lance Miller, Epsilon Nu ’80 (Michigan State). •Hosted Round Table Fellows are invited to select 8-10 brothers from our network to a round table (via Zoom) to discuss their cause and work. It can be a great way for them to network for their cause. •Chapter Discussion Fellows will speak via Zoom to their chapter undergraduate brothers (and interested alumni) sharing their journey and career trajectory. This offer a chance to encourage service and cause with younger brothers.
This fellowship will support me in a leadership program to optimize an initiative addressing unmet social needs for patients living with epilepsy, while also teaching future clinicians how to address health care disparities in Neurology.

Publications & Archives
HISTORY & ARCHIVES The newly formed History and Archives committee had some big tasks and some big wins this year. The committee was formed out of the Digital Archive project to use the archives to educate about Psi U history and the accomplishments of our brothers using the archives and digital archives stewarded by the Foundation. The original mandate of the committee was to 1) create and publish a journal with stories of interest to our brothers and 2) to create a presentation around Psi U history to present at Convention. Both of these goals were accomplished this year; “Reflections: A journal of Psi Upsilon History” was published in March*, and Evan Terry, Epsilon Phi ‘93, and Jonathan Chaffin, Gamma Tau ’00, presented “The Rho & the Rho Owl Song” at convention in Madison, WI. Shortly after formation, however, the sale of the International Office laid a HUGE task before the committee…pack up (and very roughly catalog) the rooms of the Psi Upsilon archives; spread across 3-4 rooms and dozens of shelves. Also transcribing and cataloging the location of almost 1,000 bricks in Heritage Square. They met in-person in Indianapolis in June and September to organize and pack the archives, including 123 banker boxes and cartons, plus different repositories of publications, bound books, photographs, and 8 oversized bins of wrapped objects. “I’m pleased to say the committee rose to the challenge and not only boxed, but created a filing system and took more comprehensive notes than have existed for the archives to date, as far as we can tell” says committee chair Evan Terry, Epsilon Phi ‘93 (McGill). The archives have now been carefully moved to climate controlled storage, and the bricks of Heritage Square palletized and transported for safe keeping, awaiting their eventual re-use. The history and archives committee is currently actively soliciting works of Psi U scholarship for the next issue of Reflections, due out in March. Email Jonathan@PsiU.org for details around being included. Every chapter has boxes in the archive, the contents of which yield many surprising things. Brothers of a scholarly nature are invited to join the committee in person once or twice a year at our Archives Weekends; the next will be in June 2022 in Indianapolis, IN.
