Learning Edge Academic Program (LEAP)

What is LEAP?

LEAP is a summer bridge program that helps first-year students transition to the University. LEAP combines required coursework with opportunities to meet other first-year students, become familiar with University expectations, interact with Penn State faculty, and learn their way around campus. LEAP takes place during Summer Session II, which runs from the end of June to mid-August.

What are the benefits of LEAP?

SMALL, INTEGRATED CLASSES. LEAP students belong to a pride of no more than twenty-four first-year students that will take two classes together. Small class sizes allow for greater interaction with faculty and greater in-class engagement.

A PEER MENTOR. Each pride is assigned a student mentor who will spend the summer helping students adjust to college life, learn their way around campus, and become familiar with resources on campus and in the community.

LEAP HOUSING LEAP students are housed together in the same residence halls to create a living and learning community that helps build confidence.

A JUMP START FOR FALL The small-campus, summer atmosphere gives students the opportunity to explore University Park, complete 6-7 credits, and make friends, setting them up for success in the fall.

Visit leap.psu.edu to view pride offerings and learn how to register for LEAP.

Contact Undergraduate Admissions at 814-865-5471 to change your start term from fall to summer. This change must be made by May 1.

LEAP prides fill on a first-come, first-served basis. Some prides fill the day registration opens! Act early to ensure a space in this exciting program.
