Penn State College of Education: Rehabilitation and Human Services

Rehabilitation and Human Services As the first Rehabilitation and Human Services (RHS) Program in the United States, this major has a distinguished and long history of training baccalaureate-level practitioners to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.

Our degree programs include ... • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Rehabilitation and Human Services • Rehabilitation and Human Services Minor

About our undergraduate programs ... • Our classes are designed to prepare students for a variety of careers serving persons with disabilities and subsequent graduate study, if desired. All RHS faculty teach and advise in the program and place high value on training qualified professionals at the baccalaureate level. • RHS program faculty have a strong commitment to diversity and advocacy so that students are prepared for meeting the demands of an increasingly diverse workforce. • The curriculum offers both residential instruction and an increasing number of courses that can be taken online. • The program is intended to provide practical, “real-world” training that includes a required, full-time internship in the last semester of study based on individual student goals. While most students complete their internships in the United States, we have had students complete internships in Africa, Central American and Europe. • Students can study abroad through our 6-credit course, “Culture and Disability,” in Dublin, Ireland, offered each summer. • Students have the opportunity to live with other first-year students studying within the College of Education through the Special Living Options offered by the Housing Office.
