THE BAMBOO HOUSE MADE IN ALABAMA

The Bamboo House: Made in Alabama presents innovative architecture spearheaded by the Rural Studio at Alabama’s Auburn University School of Architecture. Its director, Andrew Freear (The $20,000 House), proves he can surmount key constraints, like environmental sustainability, low cost, local materials and local labor.

MARCH 11-26

This exhibit proves that not only is bamboo a local physical product, but that its employ is an American design as well. It highlights bamboo’s immense potential as a native material—both due to its sustainability and its beauty. Commissioned works by other designers displayed in the house demonstrate the versatility of bamboo, underscoring its potential to adapt to uses both luxury and affordable.
