OUR MISSION
The Institute for Youth Ministry at Princeton Theological Seminary forms Christian Leaders for thoughtful, just, and creative ministry with young people.
OUR VISION
To become the leading organization for equipping Christians to nurture the faith of the young people in their lives.
OUR WORK
Since our founding in 1995, the IYM has connected theology and practice in youth ministry through research, programs, events, and resources. We train ministry leaders who work with young people, support emerging scholarship, and collaborate with Christian congregations and organizations. In all of our work, we celebrate God’s just and creative movement in the lives and experiences of young people.
OUR VALUES
INTEGRITY. We honor our history, context, and relationships. You can count on us to be respectful, honest, and accountable in all our work.
INCLUSION. We are committed to the widest possible embrace and support of every person we encounter. We are intentional to create accessible structures, compassionate communities, and equitable systems.
INNOVATION. We remain laserfocused on how best to serve young people, which requires the courage to creatively reimagine and experiment.
INTERDEPENDENCE. We believe in the power of collaboration, and we build bridges, cultivate partnerships, and connect people, organizations, and communities to work and journey together.
IMPACT. We want to make a difference in the lives of young people, youth workers, the church, and the world.

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES
THE CERTIFICATE IN YOUTH AND THEOLOGY PROGRAM
Are you looking for a community of youth worker friends with whom you can share best practices and ministry ideas? Are you new to youth ministry and wanting some accessible theological education to help shape your work? Join the next cohort of this dynamic online program! This 8-month program offers learning in biblical studies, theology, leadership, worship, and innovation—all designed with youth ministry at the heart. Cohorts launch twice a year, with applications opening in June for the September 2024 cohort.
CULTIVATING GOD’S BRAINFOREST:
Neurodiversity and Youth Ministry
How do we best celebrate and center the gifts of neurodivergent leaders and young people? Cultivating God’s Brainforest is the IYM’s online learning module that helps you answer this question. Available anytime on-demand, this asynchronous learning experience takes you on a journey of five lessons that dive into explorations of prayer, worship, love, flourishing, and more. Discounts are available for learning groups of 5+.
CULTIVATING TEEN FAITH:
Confirmation and Formation Practices
Back by popular demand, join us for a journey through the findings of the Confirmation Project, a 3-year study of more than 3,000 U.S. congregations across five denominations. Updated to engage the post-pandemic youth ministry landscape, this online learning module will help you reimagine confirmation and equivalent practices in your congregation. Opening in 2024—Sign up to receive notification of the launch!
MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING
Feeling overwhelmed by the mental health crisis plaguing young people? The IYM has collaborated with a youth mental health professional to develop practical and theological online training just for you. Learn the best practices for care as a ministry professional. Opening in 2024—Sign up to receive notification of the launch! For Youth Workers and Parents

Introducing
A NEW RESOURCE FROM THE INSTITUTE FOR YOUTH MINISTRY
How do youth leaders like you collaborate with the Holy Spirit in your ministry? This brand new devotional from the IYM invites you on a journey to explore this question for yourself or alongside a team of leaders in your congregation! Each devotion includes theological reflection questions, practical tasks to deepen your learning, and resources for further consideration. Written by PTS faculty and IYM friends, we present this free gift to you at this year’s Forum.
We will launch a digital version of this resource, so we appreciate any feedback you can offer. Would you please take 5 minutes to share your thoughts with us? Thank you for your help!
