The OfFIficIal Lady Travels to Paris France

Fashion and colors Ruby Rose, Reveals a new side The Look of Hair Has OffiFIcIally Changed

BLCK is a magazine based on bringing fashion back to Basics. At BLCK we believe that the Basics are what makes or breaks an outfit. Without these essential pieces the foundation of fashion would not exist itself. When fashion first began things were simplistic and clean. As time continued on colors were mixed and matched to make a Basic rule of fashion for that time. This has happened over and over again over the course of centuries. However, how do you find the Basics in a time when there aren’t any fashion rules? You find the Basic’s by being utterly fearless. This month we will focus the Basics of the famous color Black.

Letter From the Editor

When I began making BLCK, I wanted to

show that being “Basic“ wasn’t a bad thing. The Ba-

sics are the foundation of fashion, they’re the foundation of everything that we know in the fashion

world. My vision was to display that to the public, but on the flip side I wanted to show the importance of being different. Strange thought isn’t it, being both basic and different? It is however, possible to be both. In this issue of BLCK we have tried our best to show how the fashion basics are still high on the trending lists, and how it’s okay to be different. Thankfully I had great support when making this issue from my chief Editor Randy Dunbar, and from great celeberities who offered to be featured in this issue such as Ruby Rose, and Hair Designs. A special Thank you to my Chief Editor all for the unconditional support and pushing me to do my best even when I wanted to quit. I appericate you more than you will ever know.

ach semester at fashion school, FIDM, located in downtown Los Angeles, the 5th floor is host to a variety of window displays created by the Visual Communication students. Each semester they are given a theme and told to run with it. The results, quite often, are spectacular. This semester’s theme is nature and instructor Katherine LoPresti instructed students to build their window displays with “as much organic materials as possible.” The students work as teams to build everything from the dresses to creating the typography for the windows. The group effort pays off as the nine windows are often the center of attention for visiting parents and prospective students.

I KNOW exactly when and where I decided to wear only black and white. And I remember exactly what I was wearing. A long-sleeve blackand-white striped shirt, black jeans and white boots. That was the fall of 2008, walking to a restaurant with a friend after my father had died after a long illness, and after I had very un-fatal thyroid cancer, which nonetheless meant replacing a major gland with two little pills that would always be with me. “From now on I think I’m going to wear black and white, only,” I said to the friend. Maybe then I was looking for order. I don’t know otherwise how to explain how this idea took total hold over me, anymore than I know how the thought came to me, unbidden, in the first place. It does seem to represent something: the sharp contrasts that can’t be sharper, the simplicity of it. I have come to experience this wardrobe restriction as a pleasant and very manageable state of affairs. My family, a mostly cheerful bunch, doesn’t necessarily support my habit, though they don’t actively oppose it, either. I’m fairly sure that they thought that I would slowly let it go. People tend to do something like this after events like that: pick up gardening, write a memoir, cut their hair in a way that probably isn’t a good idea. As the grief fades, so does the hobby; the hair grows back.

5 WAYS TO WEAR METALLICS DURING THE DAY

Kate | October 16, 2015 | Clothing | No Comments

With the coming of the cold seasons comes the long array of holidays. And holidays, with all its celebratory atmosphere and energy, just gives us the best excuse to wear metallic clothes. Admit it; some of you rely on the holidays so that you can take out that funky metallic top that’s been buried underneath your wardrobe the whole year.

Well, guess what, folks? The holidays may still be a couple of months away but the rise of metallic clothes have been around for a while already. But this is critical. You want to be careful not to look like you’re going to a club when you’re

neutrals HOW TO WEAR NEUTRAL COLORS IN A SUMMER OUTFIT

by: Vanessa Rodriguez in How To’s, Style Neutral Outfit for Summer - Visit Stylishlyme.com for more outfit photos and style tips NEUTRAL SUMMER OUTFIT Yes, you can wear all neutral colors in a summer outfit without looking plain or boring. In those times when you run out of color ideas, reach for brown, white or black basics to create a stylish neutral summer outfit. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to wear neutrals from time-to-time or all the time, if you don’t like wearing bright colors.

looking too plain. It’s just like spicing up an outfit with stripes. Intentionally, I went for a casual neutral look. I wore a basic cotton tee as a replacement for a button down, sandals in lieu of of wedges and jeans instead or a skirt because I wanted to show that casual neutrals can also be stylish. From my looks page, you’ll notice I always pay close attention to the details and when wearing neutrals it’s no different. Maybe you should pay even more attention to your details when wearing a neutral outfit because the little things are much more obvious; like ill fitting pants or too large of a tee.

In fact, neutrals have many positives;

everything always matches, you are able to wear items over and over and people won’t notice, they’re the foundation of your wardrobe, you focus on fit and shape because the color is not the emphasis, and you spend less time getting ready because you know the fit is perfect and the colors match. The trick to wearing an all neutral outfit is to add a fun dimension. For example: in this outfit, I wore white denim pants with a subtle cream pattern. The cute printed pants add interest to the entire summer outfit and keep the neutral outfit from

uby Rose’s popularity has taken off like a rocket ship, but she’s prepared for the moment when she’s no longer the “It girl.” Heck, she thinks it may come next week. “I’ve had the lulls and ebbs and flows. I’ve been a has-been and an ‘It girl’ and has-been and an ‘It girl.’ I’ll be a has-been next week,” she said of her enormous popularity since becoming a breakout star on Orange Is the New Black. “You just learn to ride the wave and just enjoy it. It’s not so serious, you know.”

“I

was like, ‘No, no, you have to look at the road,’ and they put their brakes on, but they did it too late and it was just enough to bump the car in front of them,” the Australian-born actress said. “No one was injured, thank God.” The fandom and the success isn’t going to her head, though. She remains as grounded as ever, possibly because her fame came as an adult. “This has been unparalleled to anything I’ve ever experienced, and I’m really lucky because I had a lot of success in Australia at a young age, and I think it was good to have that level in Australia and not have that in America,” the 29-year-old star said. “I don’t envy any anyone who gets worldwide fame at 15 or 18, You’re not built with those kinds of skills to deal with the pressure and what it means to have your life change that dramatically.”

Luckily you can fake undone, super cool hair. Hairstylist Adam Reed shows you how in our ELLE TV video - Low Effort ‘Do. You can leave your hair loose as seen in our video and at Stella McCartney, Giles and Kenzo, or whip it up into a carefree rough bun like the models at Marni and Bottega Veneta.
