Origional Photography: Samantha Montiforte A wonderful serenity has taken possession of my entire soul, like these sweet mornings of spring which I enjoy with my whole heart. I am alone, and feel the charm of existence in this spot, which was created for the bliss of souls like mine. I am so happy, my dear friend, so absorbed in the exquisite sense of mere tranquil existence, that I neglect my talents. I should be incapable ofWOKE drawing a single stroke at the present moment; and yet I feel that I never was a greater artist than now.

FROM THE EDITOR
Take A Look Into My World
WOKE magazine is all about opening the minds of our audience and appealing to a quique lifestyle. We wanted to create an EMD focused magazine combining culture, style, art, and music, with a focus on user-centered content and really push for a strong community vibe.We wanted to look at all the different types of electronic music so I can appeal to a wide range of people, while including some semi-controversial topics such as flow arts (like fire spinning), psychedelic art, and festivals. I want to have a big focus on showcasing artists work for sale such as jewelry, paintings, clothing, etc. What makes us stand out is how we created a universal platform for all ravers and EDM enthusiasts, opening them up to new trends and equipment to encourage exploring self identity and helping others find out what makes them happy. The goal of WOKE magazine is to portray the raver community as the fun, happy, and healthy group it truly is. Samantha Montiforte Editor of WOKE WOKE

Everyone loves pizza. But some of us out there might not be able to enjoy a typical pizza without it causing some trouble. Those who are gluten free and have to cross pizza dough off their food list still have the ability to enjoy this crowd favorite. There are plenty of recipes on gluten free pizza dough and tons of veggie topping options included on the next page. Everyone deserves to have a cheat day, but that does not mean you can’t enjoy ta serving of fresh fruit and veggies to keep you going through the day.

SHOW US YOUR STUFF By: Samantha Montiforte / Photograpyv By: Samantha Montiforte
FIDM students are showing us what they got by displaying some of their mid-quarter projects. Just to prove that even under pressure, we can all accomplish great things. This really lets the students individual personality shine through by allowing them to pick a subject and run with it. Projects like this are fun, expressive, and show us something new that students bring to our school. Behind each project is a message the student is trying to get across to the audience. For example in this one there is an alligator. Which is pretty cool since alligators are really interesting and fun to look at. I love them. There is nothing in the world that I love more than alligators besides placeholder text, and that’s serious! Discover New Beginings GET YOURSELF OUT THERE By: Samantha Montiforte / Photograpyv By: Samantha Montiforte
Traveling can come at an expense, which is why planning ahead can be so helpful. Everyone has the list of festivals and shows that you want to go to, but nothing will happen until you make the bold decision to get yourself out there and buy a ticket. Why stop yourself from only seeing shows in your immediate area? There is an entire world full of never-ending upcoming events that have your name written all over it. The journey is half the fun, so grab some friends and start planning today! It’s not until you are finally inside the venue that you realize that all that hard work really did pay off. It is worth it to work hard so you can play hard. It is the vacation that you never want to end, but eventually it will come to a close and you have to go back to the way things were before. The best way to beat festival depression is to always be looking forward to the next one. Be optimistic there will always be another show, you just have to go out there and find it!

heerwood Forest is home to the Electric Forest Festival is an eight-day, two-weekend, multi-genre event with a focus on electronic and jam band genres, held in Rothbury, Michigan, at the Double JJ Resort. The original event was called Rothbury Festival, debuted in 2008, and focused on jam bands and rock bands. The event was not held in 2010. Electric Forest, which debuted in 2011, is co-produced by Madison House Presents and Insomniac Events. The 2015 event drew an estimated 45,000 attendees. The Rothbury Music Festival took place July 3 through July 6 and was hailed as a great success, with an estimated 50 thousand in attendance the first year.A revised figure puts the paid attendance at 30,202. This figure is based on Madison House’s promise that US$2 of each ticket sold would go toward Grant Township. In an article posted in the Muskegon Chronicle, the total amount of money donated to Grant Township was $60,404. Several members were present from their respective bands: The String Cheese Incident, Phish, Grateful Dead, and The Allman Brothers Band. Following the addition of the Kyle Hollingsworth Band to the lineup, all six members of The String Cheese Incident were

present in separate bands: Bill Nershi played with the Emmitt Nershi Band, EOTO is composed of Jason Hann and Michael Travis, Keith Moseley played in the WMD’s who accompanied Keller Williams, and Michael Kang played with Panjea. Three of the four members of Phish were present: Mike Gordon, Jon Fishman, and Trey Anastasio. Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart, of Grateful Dead fame, also performed in their respective bands. Two of the current members of The Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes of Gov’t Mule and Derek Trucks, performed in distinct bands. fter multiple hurdles, The Rothbury Music Festival (not the Electric Forest Festival) officially returned for a second festival in 2009. The second Rothbury was held in July on the holiday weekend. 23 WOKE

he tradition and family submersed in the forest is something almost impossible to ignore. Even with so many different people, everyone is your friend there. Actually even more than your friend, everyone becomes your family there. The forest becomes a home and everyone in it becomes your family. It’s a beautiful metamorphosis for us all to step out of our usual aloofness towards one another for a little while. In the forest, humanity makes a complete 180 and goes from strangers to friends, to lovers, to family. Everyone belongs and no one gets left behind. But don’t take my word for it, come join our family for yourself. Whoever you are, whatever you are, you are welcome and you are loved here. Come join the forest!
Having such a diverse lineup brings in a very diverse group of people. This aspect of Electric Forest is especially unique because there are so many DIFFERENT types of people all coming together for the same reason, for the love of electric forest. You get to meet so many unique individuals from all around the state, the country and even the world. If I absolutely had to pick my favorite part of Electric Forest, the atmosphere would take the cake. The Sherwood Forest is probably the most magical place you will ever be‌ With fairies, flow arts, Ferris Wheels, and nothing but flower children running around this enchanted forest, you will no doubt be transformed after submerging yourself in the love. 27 WOKE

Twenty-year-old Niagara Falls native Isabelle Rezazadeh, aka REZZ, is quickly making a name for herself thanks to her genresmashing brand of dark and sinister techno. Despite being self-taught, her edgy and hard-hitting productions have caught the attention of Skrillex's Nest and drawn comparisons to Gesaffelstein and Trent Reznor. On the cusp of a summer that will see her perform at a major festival and release music on one of the biggest labels in dance music. Rezazadeh began DJing at the age of 16, playing music by other artists until she became inspired by a deadmau5 concert to create her own. She was noticed on a blog by Skrillex, who then followed and sent her a message on Twitter. In 2015, Rezazadeh started producing songs on her laptop in her home in Niagara Falls, Ontario,[9] and uploaded them to SoundCloud. She signed to Skrillex’s record label, OWSLA and released Insurrection on 20 July 2015. Later that year, she signed
