Welcome Friends: As the Vice President of Artistic Administration at the Colorado Symphony, I’m thrilled to share with you a summer of concerts that combine the best elements of the season. From classical to contemporary, the series offers something for every kind of taste, in venues that showcase our state’s natural beauty. We’re doing many new things this summer, including the Colorado Symphony’s debut at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, two dynamic concerts at the newly renovated Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre, six performances at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre, three shows at the Arvada Center, and two programs at our own Boettcher Concert Hall. I invite you to challenge yourself this summer and experience the orchestra in a new way. If you’ve not experienced the orchestra at Red Rocks, we’ll be performing with some of the most exhilarating artists on the touring circuit, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, the Indigo Girls, Amos Lee, and a symphonic tribute to Jerry Garcia featuring Warren Haynes. Also, join us for a unique evening with the Symphony that features Colorado homegrown talent DeVotchKa, Gregory Alan Isakov, and Elephant Revival. Finally, the orchestra is taking on the innovative and unique challenge of collaborating with the American electronic music artists Pretty Lights. The Arvada Center has been one of the Colorado Symphony’s destinations for summer symphonic music for years, and we’re thrilled to be performing three times in the outdoor amphitheater this summer. Join us for a traditional patriotic program on July 3, and again on July 10 for our annual tribute to Arthur Fiedler. This summer’s Fiedler tribute program introduces Caroline McCaskey on the musical saw, and further features our own Principal Tuba, Stephen Dombrowski, in a solo appearance. It’s anything but routine. Finally, join us for Mozart Under Moonlight in a program that features four of the Colorado Symphony’s Principal players in Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante, K.279b for solo oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn, as well as several of Mozart’s beloved opera arias performed by CU Boulder Faculty member Jennifer Byrd, and conducted by CU’s Gary Lewis. Thanks for making the Colorado Symphony part of your summer. Enjoy the music! Anthony Pierce Vice President of Artistic Administration

O’Neil is prominently featured with the Colorado Symphony as conductor and creator of the Inside the Score series, in addition to appearances on each of the Masterworks, Family, Pops and Holiday Series.

Caroline won the International Musical Saw Competition in 2007, and in 2009 returned to 22 SOUNDINGS SUMMER 2014 | COLORADOSYMPHONY.ORG
