LTAC OUT & ABOUT
Many remarkable things happen inside the walls of the Lone Tree Arts Center. For 13 years, we have been inviting people of all ages and abilities into our spaces to experience the arts. As we continue to grow and thrive, we have reached hundreds more people by venturing out into our community.
For years, we have invited students into our theater for our student matinee series. With touring artists f rom around the country, students experience an exceptional performance that is tied to the subjects they a re studying in school. Oftentimes, a student matinee is the first time a student gets to see a live arts show!
To further enrich the educational experiences of elementary school students, LTAC staff also provide curriculum support before th eir field trips. Recognizing the transformative power of the arts in education, LTAC collaborates closely with teachers to develop tailored educational materials that align with the themes and content of the upcoming performances. These resources, which include lesson plans, activity guides, and background information on the productions, are de signed to enhance students’ understanding and appreciation of the show they are seeing. By engaging students in pre-show discussions and activities, LTAC ensures that they arrive at the theater with a deeper context
and readiness to fully engage with the performance. This advance visit not only amplifies the impact of the live theater experience but also fosters a lifelong appreciation for the arts among young learners.
In addition to supporting young artists, LTAC has also focused on engaging older adults through dance workshops specifically tailored for seniors. These workshops offer a joyful and accessible way for seniors to stay active, express
themselves, and connect with others. The dance sessions are designed to accommodate various mobility levels, ensuring that everyone can participate and enjoy the benefits of movement and rhythm. Most recently, the incomparable artists of BODYTRAFFIC visited our neighbors and partners at MorningStar Senior Living and provided accessible chair movements th at engaged residents. One of the most memorable images from this outreach program was the residents dancing down the hallway with their walkers after the workshop!
By venturing out and meeting people where they are, we further our mission of providing exceptional experiences for all people and deepening our reach into many different communities. We hope to see you out there on the road!
As our community grows, we also look for ways to grow the impact of our arts programs and welcome new audiences. By partnering with a variety of organizations and participating in community outreach fairs, we have been afforded the opportunity to showcase our programs to specific groups. In the last year, we have attended outreach events with the Autism Community Store, Castle Rock Senior Center, Guiding Bright Minds for Children with Autism, and MorningStar Senior Living.
MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET: A LEGENDARY JAM SESSION
CHANNELING LEGENDS AND CAPTURING SPIRIT
Elvis Presley, The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.
Johnny Cash, The Man in Black.
Jerry Lee Lewis, The Killer.
Carl Perkins, The Father of Rockabilly.
Once upon a time in 1956, these four icons of rock ‘n’ roll came together for a once-in-a-lifetime jam session and captured a snapshot of music that defi ned an era. Now, that storied jam session comes to life with the LTAC production of Million Dollar Quartet
Directed by Tony Nominee and LTAC favorite, Randal Myler, this story brings to life the music, drama, and interpersonal dynamics between these legendary artists, highlighting their individual contributions to the evolution of rock and roll. The LTAC production
Set design sketch of Million Dollar Quartet. Design by Kevin Nelson.
will feature Dominque Scott as the musical director and in the role of Jerry Lee Lewis. Having previously played the role, Scott understands the fi ne line between imitation and inspiration.
“Jerry Lee is an enigmatic fi gure,” Scott says. “It’s more than trying to just sound like an artist that we’ve all heard before. It’s about the centering the character and fi nding what makes him tick.”
That’s the joy of Million Dollar Quartet—it allows the audience to look behind the masks of performers that we think we know. We get to see
a fi ctionalized account of how four giants interact with each other and grapple with the industry of music recording. Jealousy, joy, brooding, and brilliance all come together to provide distinctive portraits of unforgettable fi gures.
“MDQ [Million Dollar Quartet] is more than a jukebox musical,” Scott adds. “It’s a trip through time into the lives of four human beings. These four people happen to be some of the most iconic fi gures in music history, but they are still humans at the core.”
With these incredible musicians/ actors on stage playing their own instruments while singing and dancing, this production creates a multi-layered experience for the audience. We see a legendary night play out before our eyes and simultaneously have the added benefi t of hearing some of the most famous songs of all time. The infectious and memorable melodies have the power to move us— emotionally and physically.
As the King himself put it, “Rock and roll music, if you like it, if you feel it, you can’t help but move to it. That’s what happens to me. I can’t help it.”

Tonight’s Peformance
Songs will be announced from the stage.
Brian Chartrand (vocalist/acoustic guitarist/creator of Live from Laurel Canyon) grew up in rural Massachusetts and made his way to Phoenix in 2003. Brian’s main focus is Live from Laurel Canyon and his original music with his bands The Sweet Remains and The Project. A longtime fan of 60s and 70s music and a rock and roll history fanatic, Brian came up with the idea for Live from Laurel Canyon while working as an entertainer on a luxury cruise ship in the Summer of 2012. Since its inception, the show tours all over the country and in Europe.
Holly Pyle (vocalist) was voted best vocalist of 2019 by Phoenix New Times. Holly channels her “liquid-like voice” and intense presence into a variety of local and traveling music projects, most frequently as the front-woman of progressive soul outfit House of Stairs. Holly completed studies in jazz, opera and psychology at Northern Arizona University in 2010, and since then has given nearly 1500 performances, released 3 albums and gives lectures about loop station technology and arranging.
Josh Taylor (vocalist/acoustic guitar) Genre-bending singersongwriter and guitarist Joshua Taylor is the 2023 recipient of two San Diego Music Awards, for Best Pop Album (Unscene) and Best Rock or Indie/Alternative Song (“Cars Don’t Run Forever”). Hailing from the Heartland, tattered and travel-worn from an ill-fitting decade in the Navy, Taylor stumbled his way into a meaningful midlife identity as a confessional storyteller.
Presented by:
The sound is something between pop-rock, R&B, and fusion, and the songwriting is undeniably lyrics-forward.
Todd Chuba (drums) is originally from rural Michigan but moved to Arizona to study music at ASU. He has been a professional drummer and percussionist, specializing in a variety of musical genres and styles, for over 35 years.
Lamar Gaines (keys) is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up immersed in music that turned into a life-long passion. Apart from playing music professionally, he runs his own production company with his brother called Jeemusic.
Adam Armijo (electric guitar) is an in-demand session musician currently residing in the Phoenix area. Growing up in an art and music loving home, Adam took to guitar very early and began playing professionally at the age of 16. Adam is known for his unique approach, musicality and the ability to play many genres authentically. He has recorded and toured with a wide variety of Grammy™ award winners and Billboard™ chart toppers. Recently, Fender & Gretsch Guitars have featured Adam on dozens of youtube product demos which have been extremely successful and have racked up over 3 million views.
Mario Mendivil (bass) Born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona began his professional career at the age of 15. His talents on the bass led him to playing with smooth jazz and pop charting artists such as Brian Bromberg, Jeff Lorber, Everett Harp, Eric Darius, Sam Moore (Sam&Dave), Glen Campbell, Billy Preston, Alexander Zonjic, Denise Williams, Sister Sledge, Steve Oliver, Marion Meadows, Ray Obiedo, Cindy Bradley, Jay Soto and many more…
G FUNK WITH GERALD ALBRIGHT
And Special Guest Leon Timbo

Tonight’s Performance
Songs will be announced from the stage
Gerald Albright: Born and raised in Los Angeles, Albright was already an accomplished saxophonist by the time he enrolled at the University of Redlands, but he switched to bass after he saw Louis Johnson in concert. A few months after graduating from college, he joined jazz pianist/R&B singer Patrice Rushen, who was in the process of forming her own band. Later, when the bassist left in the middle of a tour, Albright replaced him and finished the tour on bass guitar. Playing both sax and bass, he became the consummate session and touring musician in the 80s, working with everyone from Anita Baker, Ray Parker, Jr., Atlantic Starr, The Temptations and Maurice White to Les McCann, Teena Marie, the Winans and Whitney Houston.
He launched his solo career in the infancy of what became the smooth jazz format, with Just Between Us in 1987 and has been a core part of the genre with chart-topping albums, countless radio hits and as a member of many all star tours, including Guitars & Saxes and Groovin’ For Grover. In the late 90s, he fronted a big band for and toured with pop star Phil Collins and did a dual recording with vocal great Will Downing called Pleasures of the Night. Between his last two Grammy-nominated solo albums Pushing The Envelope (2010) and Slam Dunk (2014), he enjoyed hit collaborations with two huge hits – 24/7 with guitarist Norman Brown and Summer Horns by Dave Koz and Friends
(including Mindi Abair and Richard Elliot), which were also Grammy-nominated for Best Pop Instrumental Albums.
He toured with Brown and Summer Horns, and most recently has been on the road with South Africa gospel/jazz singer and guitarist Jonathan Butler. Albright’s other albums whose titles perfectly reflect their flow include Smooth (1994), Groovology (2002), Kickin’ It Up (2004) and Sax for Stax (2008).
Because Albright’s musical muse has taken him to so many fascinating locales along the contemporary R&B/urban jazz spectrum, he’s joyfully defied easy categorizations.
“Top to bottom,” Albright says, “Whether in concert, listening to my music over the radio or CD player, I always want my listeners to be taken on a musical journey with different textures, rhythms, chord progressions and moods. I want people to know where I’ve been and where I’m going, and to let them hear that I’m in a really good place in my life.”
Leon Timbo: Some write music as a creative release. Others feel compelled to perform. For country-soul singer-songwriter Leon Timbo, music is used as a form of growth and healing. Growing up the son of two pastors in Jacksonville, FL, music was integrated into his life from the very start, as a way to communicate spiritual experience. At sixteen, Timbo began singing and by age twenty, he began playing the guitar and performing in a serious way, inspired by artists Bill Withers, James Taylor and Tim Miner. Timbo’s country sound incorporates equal measures of vintage soul, gospel, folk, R&B and even modern blues making for a unique experience that some have described as ‘transparent soul.’ Timbo is currently on the road supporting his new music and has just finished touring with 2x-Grammy Award-winning bassist, Marcus Miller, during his residency with Blue Note New York, which included two sold-out shows. Timbo will continue touring with Miller along with The Black Opry as well as playing festivals, including American Roots Festival and Newport Folk Festival, throughout the summer

WELCOME NEW LTAC STAFF!
This summer, two new staff members joined our team with passion, drive, and enthusiasm for fundraising and marketing.
Liz Huppert, Director of Individual Giving
This July, we were proud to welcome a new member of the development team, Liz Huppert, Director of Individual Giving. Liz is a Colorado native with extensive experience in the non-profit industry. After graduating from Colorado State University, she moved to Winter Park to work for the National Sports Center for the Disabled. Eventually Liz moved to Boulder to work for the University of Colorado Foundation but gravitated back to the western slope where she fell in love with arts and cultural non-profits. Liz spent 13 years working for Bravo! Vail developing the organization’s education and community outreach programs. She expanded her fundraising skills as the Development Director for Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. At the Alpine Gardens, she and her team raised $3.5 million to build the Education Center and grow the botanic garden’s programming capacity. Liz was then recruited to join the staff at the Colorado Snowsports Museum to finish a capital campaign and initiate new programming. In 2020, Liz changed course from arts and cultural organizations to health care and joined the team at Summit Community Care Clinic, a safety net health center. Liz truly is excited to be out of the cold mountain weather and back into the arts fundraising for the Lone Tree Arts Center!
Rowena Uwizeye, Marketing Specialist
Joining the marketing team is our new Marketing Specialist, Rowena Uwizeye. Rowena joins the Lone Tree Arts Center with a background in website user experience and digital marketing, having graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder, and holds an Associate’s Degree in Contemporary Web Design from Durham College in Toronto. Before joining the Lone Tree Arts Center, Rowena worked as a digital marketing manager, helping many small businesses around Denver bring their visions to life through successful social media campaigns, creative projects, and copywriting. Rowena brings her passion for design inclusivity to Lone Tree and believes that technology and design should be accessible to everyone!

THE RETURN OF National Geographic Live AND MORE THIS SEASON!
At the Lone Tree Arts Center, we pride ourselves on our wide breadth of programming and that variety is showcased in our speaker series this season. Our speakers this year focus on the majesty of our natural world, both current and prehistoric, and how best to preserve it for future generations.
We are so excited that we’re able to bring National Geographic Live back to our stage this season. Last season, National Geographic took a step back to reassess their live speaker events and to say that we were disappointed was an understatement. And we know that you missed them in our lineup as well! But after a year away, National Geographic Live is back! This season, the featured speaker is photographer Kiliii Yüyan. Yüyan’s photography celebrates the resilience, culture, and traditions of the diverse Indigenous communities in the Arctic. He’s personable and passionate about his subject matter and will share his breathtaking images of the Arctic, the

Our Planet Live features behind-the-scenes stories from the explorers, filmmakers, scientists, and adventurers that created some of the most eye-catching footage of our planet. You’ll hear straight from Dan Tapster about the trials and tribulations of creating the Emmy® Award-winning series for Netflix.
And to round out our speaker series for the season is a Changemaker Talk with Ami Vitale, a photographer, filmmaker, and writer. Vitale will share captivating stories about people learning from wildlife and protecting endangered species like pandas, rhinos, and elephants. Her uplifting narratives will leave you with hope for shaping a brighter future for our planet.

Leaving a Legacy with LTAC
This year, the Lone Tree Arts Center introduces a new recognition society for the remarkable donors that have remembered us in their estate plans. In our short history of 13 years, the Lone Tree Arts Center has made an indelible mark on the regional arts landscape. We have pioneered new programs designed for all audiences to experience the arts and brought exceptional artists to our community across a wide range of genres. We have established ourselves as a hallmark venue and have laid the foundation for many years of continued excellence.
As we tread the path towards the future, we know that we could not do what we do without the generous support of our family of donors. As we expand the ways in which donors can provide support, we are proud to launch the Lone Tree Legacy Society, a way to honor all those who have taken the special step of including us in their long-term plans through an estate commitment such as a will or other deferred giving arrangement.
Remembering the Lone Tree Arts Center in estate planning offers a powerful opportunity to leave a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations. By including us in your estate plans,
you help ensure that the cultural fabric of your community continues to thrive and evolve. This thoughtful act of generosity provides vital funding that supports a wide range of artistic endeavors, from theater productions and music performances to visual arts exhibitions and educational programs. Your contribution can help create a sustainable financial foundation, allowing us to plan and execute long-term projects that enrich the community and provide inspiration and education to people of all ages and abilities.
In addition to the tangible benefits your gift provides, including LTAC in your estate planning also serves as a meaningful testament to your values and passions. It reflects your commitment to fostering creativity, cultural enrichment, and artistic excellence. Your legacy can inspire others to support the arts, creating a ripple effect that extends far beyond your lifetime. Future generations will benefit from the opportunities and experiences made possible by your generosity, growing up in a community that values and supports the arts. By remembering arts organizations in your estate plans, you contribute to a vibrant cultural heritage that will be cherished and built upon for years to come.
Legacy gifts to the Lone Tree Arts Center include a variety of options, such as naming the Arts Center as a beneficiary of your estate or retirement assets. By notifying us of your intent to remember the Lone Tree Arts Center in your estate planning, you become a member of the Lone Tree Legacy Society with special recognition and benefits. All bequests and planned gifts are made through the Lone Tree Arts Center Fund, a 501(c)3 charity, providing tax benefits.
To learn more about legacy giving, contact Marcus Turner, Associate Executive Director for External Relations at marcus.turner@cityoflonetree.com or 720.509.1145.
Every act of giving is a step towards a brighter, more artistic tomorrow.
