THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE

August Wilson’s

AUGUST WILSON’S FENCES In April, LTAC is honored to be bringing August Wilson’s Fences to our Main Stage for a three week run from April 5—21, with a preview night on April 4. This show is a particularly exciting venture for the Arts Center, considering the rigorous vetting process from the August Wilson Estate that we had to go through to get the rights to perform the show. We are committed to bringing remarkable programming to our patrons and this show definitely fits the bill. A part of August Wilson’s ten play “American Century Cycle,” Fences takes place in the 1950s and follows Troy, a man haunted by his past and struggling to provide for his family. The cast of characters is small, but all of them are fully realized, multi-dimensional characters. It’s a rich, complex play and demands the best from the cast and creative team involved. Leading our production is Wren T. Brown in his Arts Center theatrical directorial debut. Wren is an actor, producer, and the founder of the Ebony Repertory Theatre in Los Angeles. Wren connected with LTAC via Harvy Blanks, who was last seen at the Arts Center in Big River, and is a fixture of the Denver theater scene. Harvy recently starred in August Wilson’s Jitney on Broadway. Harvy and Wren were connected by the late Israel Hicks, the first director to direct all ten of the plays in the

“American Century Cycle” for one theater company (Denver Center Theatre Company). There’s clearly something about August Wilson’s writing that keeps bringing these talented artists together. When asked about what draws him to Fences, Wren said, “The beauty of the writing, the authentic and very human characters, and the profoundly universal themes.” Even though the production may seem far away, Wren already knows what he wants our audience to take away from the performance: the importance of seeing other human beings as whole and the vital importance of effective communication. Here at LTAC, we not only want to bring you remarkable programming, but we also want to bring you relevant programming. This is a show that will stay with you long after you’ve left our theater. And while the 1950s might seem like the distant past and Troy Maxson’s story may not be your story, Wren wants this production to stress, for artists and audience alike, that “the culturally specific is not separated from the commonality of humanity.”

Make sure you join us for

She works in many facets of the dance scene, from choreographing pom, hip hop, and jazz routines for nationally ranked high school and college dance teams, to teaching her own competitive dancers at her studio. She also has a very successful special needs hip hop class that attracts dancers from all over the Denver area. When Tara is not at her studio, she is choreographing across the U.S., and has also worked in Moscow, Ecuador, Mexico City, and Scotland, where she has shared her love for dance with hundreds of students. In addition to teaching and choreographing, she is a well respected dance judge, adjudicating studio and dance team competitions regionally and internationally. Most recently, she has choreographed corporate events and fundraisers in Colorado such as the National Jewish Hospital Freedom Ball and the Denver Boys and Girls Club Flight to Luxury, as well as corporate events in Florida and San Francisco. Always learning, growing and expanding her knowledge of dance in as many platforms as she can, Tara is very excited to bring her work to the stage at Lone Tree Arts Center! JOHN GILLETTE (Choreographer) was born to entertain. At a young age he started dancing in Montgomery, Alabama with the now known superstar, Stephen “Twitch” Boss. Little did he know that they would both grow up to entertain the masses. After serving in the United States Air Force, John then moved into music. He was signed to a recording label with Def Jam and pursued his dream of being an artist. He continued to pursue dance as well and choreographed for multiple national recording artists. Realizing that he wanted more, he started working with Chris Starkey as an MC, a choreographer, a writer, and a music producer. Now, he works at Chris’s company, The Imprint Group,

and continues to challenge himself daily by finding new ways to entertain people. He has also found a passion for branding and is the in-house Brand Manager for the Imprint Group as well. Nothing excites him more than bringing joy and happiness to people through his magnetic love for entertainment, design, and brand. JEN KISER (Lighting and Scenic Designer) is the Assistant Technical Director at Lone Tree Arts Center. Previous lighting designs have been seen at Goodspeed Musicals (Meet John Doe, Caraboo, Princess of Javasu), Hartford’s TheaterWorks (Fully Committed), Wadsworth Atheneum (Sister Mozart with Haley Mills), Lone Tree Arts Center (Love Letters, Evita (Henry Award), Muscle Shoals: I’ll Take You There, It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, Cyrano, Reunion ’85, The Explorers Club, 39 Steps, Guys and Dolls in Concert, Big River, South Pacific in Concert, Bunnicula, Home for the Holidays, Sylvia, Hank Williams: Lost Highway, John Denver Holiday Concert, Alexander and the Terrible… Day), Arvada Center (How I Became a Pirate), and the Mizel Arts and Culture Center (The Value of Names). She has worked for the Guggenheim Museum, and assisted designers at venues including Papermill Playhouse, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center Festival, and on Broadway’s By Jeeves. DANIELLE LEVINE (Stage Manager) is an event industry professional (and theater nerd) with over ten years experience in all aspects of event planning and production. Danielle recently moved to Denver and is excited about getting involved with the local community and joining the Home for the Holidays team. When not working, she’s usually in the kitchen finding her zen via Julia Child recipes, or out on a walk exploring her new city. ALLEN NOFTALL (Sound Engineer) has been working in the concert audio field since 1989 when he was an audio tech for The Who at Folsom Stadium in Boulder, CO. He studied audio engineering at CUDenver under Bill Porter (Elvis Presley). After graduation, he freelanced as an audio engineer in the Denver/Colorado area and built a recording studio (Space Recording). By the early 2000s, his studio became Space Recording – Live Sound, a full service

concert/event production company doing a wide variety of shows, from singer/songwriter artists in park concerts with Swallow Hill Music to artists at Denver’s Pepsi Center and Red Rocks Amphitheater. Allen also toured with artists, including local favorite country/ alt band Slim Cessna’s Auto Club. Allen now either production manages or audio engineers over 200 concerts a year. Allen began audio engineering / sound design at Lone Tree Arts Center in 2012. From Big River to Reunion ‘85 to Randy Newman, he has engineered many of the Lone Tree Arts Center’s great music shows. DON POST (Scenic Designer) is the Lead Stage Hand and carpenter at the Lone Tree Arts Center. He began working at the Center in 2011, prior to its opening day. Previous work at the Lone Tree Arts Center includes Love Letters, Evita, Muscle Shoals: I’ll Take You There, It’s A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play, The Explorers Club, 39 Steps, Big River, Home for the Holidays, John Denver Holiday Concert, as well as many other non-theatrical productions. Don also enjoys in-line and ice hockey in his spare time, as well as spending time with his animals at home. MALLORY HART POST (Scenic Designer) is a Stage Technician at the Lone Tree Arts Center. She is also a scenic artist at the Lone Tree Arts Center and Denver Center of the Performing Arts. She has taught Technical Theater at D’Evelyn Junior/Senior High School and Wheat Ridge High School. Mallory is also a freelance artist and illustrator, specializing in watercolor paintings with grungy details. Many of her paintings feature animals, skulls, and other dark things. www.MalloryHartArt.com EMILY VALLEY (Costume Designer) is a University of Wyoming theatre graduate. She has had opportunities to work as both a performer and costume designer for theaters and companies in Kansas, Oregon, and Northern Colorado.

LOOKING FORWARD

Keep the Festivities Going!

JOIN US POST-HOLIDAYS The presents have been opened, the food has been eaten, and… your relatives are still here. What are you going to do with them? Bring them to the Arts Center, of course! We’ve got two special programs for you the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Have a swingin’ time with us on Thursday, December 28 when we present Viva Las Vegas: Elvis Night! Join us for a screening of the film on our big screen, and stay afterward for appetizers, cocktails, casino games, and karaoke. Come dressed as the man himself to participate in our costume contest! And remember, what happens at the Arts Center, stays at the Arts Center.

If Las Vegas isn’t your scene, join us the next night, Friday, December 29, to yuk it up with The Good Humor Men. Three stars of America’s funniest stand-up comedians—Pat Hazell, from The Wonder Bread Years, and rising late-night television stars Pete Lee and Pat McGann—join forces for some good, clean fun in an evening packed with punchlines, clever writing, and lots of laughs. Get rid of your post-holiday blues and send 2017 out in style at the Arts Center!

We are proud and humbled to be singled out as leading advocates in Colorado Family Law, both by our peers and our clients. You'll see our lawyers featured prominently in all ratings of lawyers that can't be bought. We receive honors from our peers all the time. But our greatest honor? Our clients are grateful for our tireless, and thoughtful counsel, advocacy, judgment and discretion.

THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE

A Breakthrough in Audience-Sourced Storytelling

POSTSECRET: THE SHOW Everyone has secrets, and sometimes it’s hard to keep them in. But we’re embarrassed to tell them to our spouses, our friends, or other loved ones. What to do? Send them to PostSecret. PostSecret started as a blog 12 years ago. Its founder, Frank Warren, asked anyone who’d listen to send him a postcard with a true secret that they haven’t told anyone. Over a million people sent him postcards. He put them on his blog, which has grown to be the largest ad-free blog in the world at almost 800 million visitors. People visit every Sunday, when ten new secrets are posted. This online community has inspired people, created dialogue about difficult topics, and has helped people see that their life experiences are shared by others. It’s become so popular that in addition to being printed in six books, some of the postcards Warren received are now showcased at a Smithsonian exhibit.

LONE TREE ARTS CENTER

So what could a live show of this phenomenon look like? Projected images, videos, actors, and a guitarist guide the audience through crowdsourced narratives revealing the true stories behind the secrets. The dramatization of secrets helps connect us to each other, and you’ll see firsthand the effect that speaking secrets out loud has on the entire community. You’ll hear hopeful, shocking, and sometimes painful secrets — including those that the members of the audience submit during the show — revealed in ways that help us all see that indeed, we are not alone.

SENSORY FRIENDLY

Four years ago, we presented our first sensory friendly performance. It was a new idea for the LTAC team, but what a chance to make remarkable arts happen for those with intellectual, developmental, and sensory disabilities. Today, LTAC’s award-winning SF Family Tree program is a model of arts inclusiveness in the Denver area. LTAC leads the way by welcoming children and families with special needs to experience performing arts as they never thought possible. Through SF Family Tree, we offer a season of low-cost family performances, with subtle but important adaptations to pacing, effects, and lighting, for safety and comfort. Relaxed house rules and off-peak show times make our venue easy and inviting.

30

LONE TREE ARTS CENTER

SF Family Tree expands possibilities for many in our community. For example, our SF usher training teams up special needs young adults with mentor ushers. SF ushers gain experience through volunteer service, not to mention meaningful social connections and a sense of belonging. LTAC is now the go-to resource for artists and other arts venues. Together with our partners in the special needs community, we are well on our way to making Denver the most sensory-friendly community in America! You can join others in making remarkable happen by supporting SF Family Tree through your tax-deductible donation or business sponsorship. Learn more at lonetreeartscenter.org/give-today.

Going out, yes. Going out of style, never. While a lot of things change over the years, some things don’t. And getting older doesn’t mean you have to stop doing what you love. So we encourage our residents to keep on doing their thing while we take care of the rest.
