A more natural approach to new urbanism.

New urbanism doesn’t always mean lots of concrete and no backyards. At RidgeGate, it means walkable shopping, dining, and cultural venues. Plus over 1,000 acres dedicated to preserved natural open space. Three new neighborhoods are coming to life with a variety of home options. Naturally, we’d love for you to come visit. RidgeGate is just south of Lincoln Avenue in Lone Tree.

A word from

MAYOR JIM GUNNING I’m a numbers guy. I like the black-and-white of how investments return and knowing specifically what aspects led to a success or a failure. In the arts, I’ve learned there is a lot of gray. Performances are so subjective that one audience member may have a completely different reaction than the person next to him or her. Since the opening of the Arts Center, I’ve been in more “gray” than ever before. But, there are still numbers – and those are numbers we’re quite proud of. By the time this letter is read, the Arts Center will have hit a milestone that we were all thrilled to celebrate. After only two years of operation, we are nearing $2 million in ticket sales. We’ve seen over 100,000 people walk through our doors, and we’ve sold out dozens of performances. This rapid success is a testament to the people of Lone Tree. They saw the opportunity, voted to support the building of the Arts Center, and now continue to cultivate success by attending plays, concerts, events, and meetings. Throughout all of this, a particular statistic has stuck with me - 52% of the Arts Center patrons come from outside of Douglas County. I am proud that the foresight of Lone Tree voters made this valuable addition to our community possible. We truly have become a destination for arts and culture not only in our own backyard, but throughout the area. Enjoy the show and tell your friends! We are building something great here. Mayor Jim Gunning

A word from

ExEcUtIvE DIREctOR LIsA RIGsbY PEtERsON Earlier this year, Denver Post critic Ray Mark Rinaldi wrote “The Lone Tree Arts Center has done much in its brief, two-year history to move the geographic center of Front Range entertainment a few miles south of the City of Denver.” We are justifiably proud of this endorsement from one of the region’s leading arts critics. The 2013-14 season underscores our intention to bring you the best touring and regional entertainment, carefully chosen with our audience members in mind. We are excited about our continued artistic growth, measured not only in ticket sales and attendance figures, but also in your responses. While we continue to grow, there is one aspect of the Arts Center that we hope remains the same: our unwavering commitment to listening to you. Many of you have been on the receiving end of our requests for feedback – in fact, we received nearly 800 responses to our early 2013 survey asking for your opinions about programming, comfort in our facility, and warmth and helpfulness of our employees. When we recently encountered a string of rotten weather luck during our Tunes on the Terrace concert series, we surveyed you to find out which part of the experience was most important so that we can better make adjustments in the future. You don’t need to wait to be asked to give your feedback, by the way – you can always email your thoughts to boxoffice@cityoflonetree.com and we will be sure to receive your message. Be assured that we read all comments and, as a staff, discuss how we can do things better. One example of how we listen and respond can be found in our programming this year. We had great a response to our Arts in the Afternoon series, so we have expanded the program to be held monthly. Our Seedlings programs, for children aged 1 – 4, are selling out every month so we added additional performances. These programs, in addition the diverse range of main stage programming awaiting you over the next 8 months, are designed to bring excellent, moving, uplifting, thoughtful, and just plain fun to you. We look forward to seeing you in the audience, and hearing from you when you’d like to share! Lisa Rigsby Peterson

Arts in the Afternoon In August, LTAC kicked off a brand new series designed to serve the fast growing senior and retiree populations in the metro area. Arts in the Afternoon provides mid-day concerts at an affordable price. The concerts are all performed by small groups of professional musicians and feature a variety of genres throughout the season. Arts in the Afternoon, presented on the second Wednesday of each month at 1:30 pm, includes everything from jazz and bluegrass to classical and opera. Last year, LTAC tried its hand at mid-day programming with two series specifically focused on chamber music and jazz for daytime offerings. The response was fantastic, growing from a couple of dozen audience members to a couple of hundred by the end of the season. This year, we decided to up the ante! Lisa Rigsby Peterson, Executive Director of LTAC, said, “We heard from so many of last year’s attendees that they enjoy having an affordable option to experience art while the sun is still up. There is a real need for quality programs that are accessible in many ways for our aging population. The huge growth in attendance last season proved that Arts in the Afternoon is a terrific addition to our community, and we’re proud to expand it this year.” The performers are varied, but all seem agreed on one point – they love performing for this group of patrons! Stephanie Bettman of the bluegrass/folk duo Bettman & Halpin said, “We are looking forward to returning to the Lone Tree Arts Center. LTAC is one of our favorite venues - everyone there is welcoming and supportive. It’s the perfect place to be sharing our Songs and Stories from the Road. The audiences at LTAC are great, and truly appreciate the uniqueness and intimacy of our songwriting - and yet they’re totally willing to laugh with us too! Can’t wait!” Bettman & Halpin perform November 6. Phillip Stevens, a member of the Colorado Symphony Orchestra and professor at Metro State University, is a regular performer at LTAC. Last year, Stevens performed numerous times as a chamber musician and he looks forward to returning with some interesting twists. In February, Alex Kommodore joins Stevens to present a different side of chamber music – the guitar. Stevens said, “To show just what the guitar can do, Alex is also planning to present a short set of virtuosic guitar works that he will have just taken on tour to Scotland. I’m really looking forward to this concert because it will be such a new and rewarding chamber music experience for me, not to mention for much of our audience.” This Guitars & Strings concert will take place February 19. If you enjoy the more traditional side of chamber music, there are certainly offerings for you as well. The October 9 concert titled International Masterworks for Violin & Piano will not disappoint. LTAC favorite, Elizabeth McKenna Greenberg joins up with Kelly Zuercher to present this dazzling afternoon of top composers from Brahms to Chopin. “The violin and piano literature is so rich and colorful, that the hardest part of our job in programing will be picking among so many beautiful works. Our goal in this concert is to present a cross section of composers from the baroque, classical and romantic repertoire… It is always a pleasure for performers and audience to share the stage in such an excellent, unamplified acoustic space and in an intimate and educational setting,” remarked Greenberg. We hope you’ll join us for this fantastic series!

Over 300 cultural institutions in the Denver metro area receive support and funding via the SCFD. This creates a rich, robust landscape of cultural opportunities for our children and our neighbors. From a child on a field trip seeing a woolly mammoth to a grandfather showing his family what his aircraft looked like in WWII to a family celebrating the holidays together with live entertainment, the SCFD helps make the memories we cherish possible. One penny on every $10 purchase within the seven-county region (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties) is distributed via the SCFD. Since its inception in 1989, the SCFD has served a mission that enlightens and entertains the public. Annually distributing approximately $40 million, the Denver metro has been elevated to a worldclass cultural center through the funding the SCFD provides to cultural organizations of all sizes and disciplines.
