from the
executive director Dear Friends, Welcome to our 2021-2022 season and I am delighted to announce our return to in-person performances with a season of beloved performers and rising stars. Spectacular dance performers Dance Theatre of Harlem, Nashville Ballet, and Cie Hervé Koubi hit the stage, alongside jazz greats like The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. The National Geographic Live series returns with explorers and scientists bringing the world’s diverse ecosystems from ancient Egypt to dinosaurs and the cultures of whales to Denver. We are also excited to launch our new Arts Connection curriculum providing free digital resources to local teachers and schools. There are also low-cost student matinee performances that provide the opportunity for students grade 3 through 9 to watch and learn from incredible artists from around the world. Finally, we are bringing back our popular Musical Explorers program which connects K-2 students to the global community of music makers. We are so grateful to our many patrons who supported us throughout the pandemic. We enter this year more resolute in our commitment to share live experiences and support diversity in our programming and community engagement. I look forward to meeting you in the lobby before or after a show. Please be sure and say hi!

from the
chancellor Welcome to the Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts, a vital source of inspiration, expression, and learning at the University of Denver. Your attendance supports the moving and transformative experiences the Denver community enjoys at the Newman Center. Thank you. This season, the Newman Center will present the Dance Theatre of Harlem, which will bring the language of ballet to campus in celebration of African American culture. In DU’s ongoing partnership with National Geographic Live, Egyptologist Kara Cooney will share her presentation, When Women Ruled the World. And Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, led by Wynton Marsalis, will perform their repertoire, renowned for its range and representation of the full spectrum of jazz. In addition, we will host several outstanding musicians, stage productions, authors, comedians and more. It’s going to be a truly phenomenal season. The University of Denver is proud of the Newman Center. Through these performances, our campus is made even more accessible to the entire Denver community. The artists and performers on the Newman stages share with the audience their gifts, big ideas, voice and perspectives. This is powerful. And it’s important. The Newman Center adds enrichment and opportunities for learning and connection for Denver and the DU community—most especially our students—and so serves a vital role in our commitment to providing a truly holistic, four dimensional experience. Thanks for coming today, and I hope you find many events to attend this season. Enjoy the show. Sincerely,
Jeremy Haefner Chancellor, University of Denver 8

The Newman Center hosts nearly 500 events each year with 130,000 people in attendance. At the core of Newman Center’s programming is Newman Center Presents, a multidisciplinary professional performing arts series, showcasing renowned artists from around the world.
