Recent studies by the World Statistics Institute (WSI) show that there is an increasing rate of illiteracy all over the world with over 27% of people being illiterate. Even worse still is the finding that approximately 113 million children (who are of school age) all over the world do not attend school. 60% of these children are girls. Illiteracy has a profoundly negative effect on the prospects and lifestyle of an individual and a terrible effect on society as it acts as an inhibitor and affects the development of a country. it is our belief that the future of many children currently living in abject poverty can be changed if given an education. Mary McLeod Bethune said “The whole world opened up to me when I learned to read”. The more children we can give an education and help achieve their potential, the more secure their future will be, as well as that of their families and their countries as a whole.

accessible to all children within schooling age irrespective of race, religion or sex, who otherwise would never be educated. The fund will be called - the Ifeyinwa Alison Irukwu Education Fund, in loving memory of the legacy of Pastor Ifeyinwa Alison Irukwu. The education of children was one of Pastor Ify’s passions. She was a very keen and gifted teacher and her book“Wisdom for children”has been used by many parents to teach their kids. We believe that this fund will be a lasting tribute to her memory.
With this in mind, Jesus House Church Social Responsibility is working - alongside hundreds of organisations all over the world - to achieve one of the eight Millennium development goals proposed by the United Nations, which is to ensure that by 2015, all boys and girls all over the world complete at least a full course of primary school education.
Let us join hands today to work towards changing a child’s life. Please give to the fund – it could be via standing order, quarterly or a one-off donation. Nothing is too small.
The vehicle we have set up to play our part in contributing to the achievement of this huge albeit attainable goal is an education fund which will aim to sponsor children from impoverished backgrounds in developing countries through education. The fund is
