The RCCG Public Engagement Group
VISION
Our vision is to ensure that members of the RCCG take up roles in the public space; impacting the nation positively and creating a fairer, more equal and righteous nation.
PEG aims to create a framework for Christians to engage in public life. The group will identify, equip, deploy and support individuals who can take up these public roles and serve their communities at every level – local, regional and national.

The group will carry out a range of exercises and events to identify suitable individuals.
01 ELIGIBILITY A member of the RCCG. Reference from parish leadership. Committed Christian. Community minded. Eligibility for public office (age, nationality, no-criminal record).

EVENTS
Road shows and a call to action at major RCCG events will be held to encourage people to see the importance of engaging in public life and inspire them to take responsibility for decisions concerning them and society.

SELECTION
There will be a selection process for potential candidates, with interviews and practical exercises.

EQUIP Preparation and training
PEG will facilitate the training of potential public office holders on how to conduct themselves. They will be encouraged to present themselves without alienating people unnecessarily. There will be training on presenting a worldview that is biblical and practical using the following methods.

Applications for candidacy and public-sector roles
Help with completing applications and identifying suitable referees. Link with coaches that can assist with some of the selection processes such as interviews and assessment boards. Building CVs. Look at span of opportunities available. Sharing information and resources on events to attend

Campaign Action days for elective offices: Putting together teams to support electoral candidates. Mobilising a team of volunteers to assist where required. Campaigning for candidates (registered members of any political party will not be obliged to campaign for another party’s candidate). Arranging, where contacts are available, for high profile public officials to support campaign. Fundraising

Support A strong army of supporters to help Once candidates take up public roles, P.E.G will work to facilitate support for them during their term of service. The type of support will vary for each candidate and role, but should generally consist of the following:

PRAYER
Prayer network for P.E.G candidates to call on at any time they require prayer for themselves or over an issue in the public domain. Regular prayers for each person in post. A ‘wailing wall’ and testimony wall where people can write their prayers for the candidates. Informing candidates of relevant prayer groups within their respective areas. Have a prayer breakfast gathering near Parliament, for candidates to get together, pray and network with other Christians in public life.

MOBILISING
Organising teams of volunteers to help with regular campaigns, engaging in key issues, petitions etc.

RESOURCING
Our democracy works and grows through informed debate and involved people. P.E.G will provide, or direct candidates to resources, such as ongoing development training, conferences, published articles and enable them to engage effectively in political debate and proficiently respond to issues of our time.

CONNECTING
P.E.G. will facilitate the assignment of candidates to Christian mentors in their field and organise events to provide a space for candidates to connect with other Christians both locally and nationally.

Magistrates hear cases in the criminal and family court, dealing with minor assaults, motoring offences, theft, TV licence evasion, adoption, child maintenance orders and domestic violence amongst others.

SCHOOL GOVERNOR
School Governors provide strategic and budgetary direction, ensure good governance and contribute to setting standards and policies in schools, subject to the Curriculum.

MAGISTRATE

SPECIAL CONSTABLE
Councillors are elected members of local government councils, representing and supporting communities at the local level and overseeing council performance.
Special Constables are volunteer part time members of the police force who have police powers when on duty.

MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT
Members of Parliament are elected to represent constituencies across the country and make laws. The Prime Minister and government of the day consists of Members of Parliament from the majority party.

PARLIAMENTARY CASEWORKER/ RESEARCHER
Caseworkers and Researchers work for MPs and handle the day to day management of their office responsibilities including managing their caseload and providing useful research information to enable MPs work effectively.

WORKING FOR AN ALL PARTY PARLIAMENTARY GROUP
All Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) are cross-party groups formed to promote certain issues. Providing administrative support to these groups is an effective way of highlighting and bringing about change on issues.

SET UP OR JOIN A THINK TANK ON A MATTER OF INTEREST
Think Tanks are research and/ or advocacy groups that form to influence changes in public life, across different topics including politics, socio-economic issues and culture.

TAKE UP EXECUTIVE OFFICE IN A POLITICAL PARTY
The major political parties operate effectively from the grassroots level. Joining a local association and taking up office is a useful way of taking part and effecting change.

PUBLIC APPOINTMENT
Public appointments are roles on the boards of public bodies, government departments or advisory committees. They provide an opportunity to take up key roles in shaping decisions that affect society.

POLICY ADVISER
Policy Advisers are subject matter experts in any given policy area(s) and provide government ministers with advice on making decisions on many policy issues in public life.

POLITICAL JOURNALIST
Political journalists cover all the political events of the day and often help to shape policy by sometimes uncovering public policy issues that are overlooked and need addressing.
