Atlanta Public Schools
THE PCG APPROACH As developed by PCG, TED draws information from multiple data management systems – including the Student Information System, the Human Resource system, multiple teacher evaluation tools, as well as student assessment and achievement data – to offer principals a comprehensive tool for evaluating educator performance and supporting decisions regarding staffing and staff development. The TED also allows principals to create “what if” scenarios and tie into a professional development management system for the creation of development plans.

THE OPPORTUNITY
The Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) will integrate with the SharePoint portal and TED to support the initiative, “Learning without Limits.” Working closely with APS, PCG is developing a robust analytics reporting module for multiple user roles, drawing from 11 different data streams in the district, enabling longitudinal analysis across student, staff, finance, and other sources. PCG is building the EDW on our Skopus™ framework for data warehousing and analytics.
THE RESULT The innovative TED tool was delivered to all principals in the district in September, 2011 and has been exhibited to the other School Improvement Grants (SIG) recipients across the nation.
Atlanta Public Schools (APS) and PCG Education have been working together since 2001 in multiple areas, including special education management, Medicaid reimbursement, educator effectiveness, the improvement of operational processes, and management reporting. In 2010, PCG Education partnered with APS to deliver a major SharePoint portal upgrade and to develop the district’s Teacher Effectiveness Dashboard (TED) and an Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW). This work is funded in large part through a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as part of the foundation’s “Effective Teacher in Every Classroom” initiative. The $10 million investment assists APS’ work to recruit, prepare, place, and support effective teachers in every classroom throughout the district.
