ISLAND TIME... I had the pleasure of visiting Deep Water Cay this year and experienced the warmth of the Bahama sun and ocean breezes. Since its establishment in 1958, this quiet destination has become the preeminent Bahamas fishing retreat, offering seclusion, privacy and a charm that is found nowhere else in the Bahamas. The Cay has its own 4,000 ft. private runway with an on-site customs, welcome center, landing dock and fitness center. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by the gracious staff and driven via golf cart to our private home on the oceanfront. You see, Deep Water Cay doesn’t have cars on the island. We had the opportunity to do nothing at all or explore all the amenities that this hidden gem has to offer. Our first evening included a private dinner reception prepared by the Lodge Chef. The next day, we had the pleasure of being captained by Muff, who took us fishing for the day. Captain Muff found another secluded beach where we were able to hunt for beautiful shells and enjoy lunch prepared by the extraordinary staff of Deep Water Cay. Also, he found the best fishing spot and caught some amazing fish such as Stawberry Grouper, Trigger fish and more. When we arrived back to Deep Water Cay after an awesome excursion, the Chef prepared our catch of the day. The dinner that night melted in our mouths! The following day, Captain Muff took us on a snorkeling excursion to experience the breathtaking sea life. We took one of the many resort boats to a creek off the ocean where we were able to view some of the incredible Bahama life. Other activities include bonefishing, for which the island is famous, and scuba diving, kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, or strolling the 2.5-mile sandy beach.
