Red Riding Hood Written and Illustrated by Peri Trott
In a small town near a deep dark forest, a girl lived with her family. Her Grandmother lived alone in the forest, and she would visit her often. When the girl went out, she always wore her favourite red coat, and so everyone called her Red Riding Hood.
One day, Red Riding Hood went to visit Grandmother to take her some sweet treats she and her mother had baked. As Little Red Riding Hood left the house with her big red coat and basket of treats, her mother called out a warning. “Remember, straight to Grandmother’s, and stay on the path!” “OK Mum. I promise.” Red Riding Hood said goodbye and off she went to deliver some cakes to Grandma.
Story page As promised, Red Riding Hood followed the path through the forest, and made sure she did not stray from it. Hidden in the trees, a Wolf watched Little Red Riding Hood from the shadows, licking his lips.
Story page She will make a fine snack. He thought to himself. As he watched her, Red Riding Hood stopped to admire some flowers along the side of the path. He saw his chance and crept up to speak to her, concocting a devious plan.

“Hello, Little Red Riding Hood.” He said. “What are you doing wandering the forest alone?” “Hello, Mr Wolf.” Red Riding Hood peered up at the Wolf. “I’m going to visit my Grandmother.” The Wolf saw his chance to enjoy an even bigger meal. “Where does your Grandmother live, little Miss?” “At the end of the path. I just stopped to admire these flowers.” The Wolf had a plan, if he could make Little Red Riding Hood stop for long enough, he could run ahead, gobble down Grandmother, and then have Red Riding Hood for desert!
Story page “Hmm, Little Red, why don’t you pick some of those pretty flowers to take to your dear Grandmother? I’m sure she’d like them.” Said the Wolf with a grin. Red Riding Hood knew she shouldn’t wander from the path, but the flowers were awfully pretty, and her Grandmother would like them; so, she decided it would be a nice thing to do for Grandmother. She nodded. “Yes, Mr Wolf. I think I will.” “Wonderful! Well, Little Red Riding Hood, I’ll leave you to your flower picking.”
Story page And with that, the Wolf raced down the path to Grandmother’s house. He knocked on the door, and listened to Grandmother shuffling around inside. When she opened finally opened it he swallowed her down in one big bite!
Story page The Wolf rummaged through her cupboards and found a nightgown, thinking that he could disguise himself and trick Red Riding Hood when she arrived. No sooner had he tucked himself into Grandmother’s bed did he hear a gentle tapping at the door.
