STARFISH

Starfish are also known as ‘Sea Stars’ and there are over 2000 different species in the World. Though we have been bought up to believe that Starfish have five arms, some species have up to 40 arms! They have a spiky outershell that protect them from harm and they have salt water running through their body instead of blood. They use hundreds of tubes on the bottom of each arm as feet to help them move along the sea bed and across rocks.

FUN FACT: Starfish can grow back an arm if o ne is broken off! This can tak e up to a y ear!

SEA TURTLE

Leatherback Sea Turtles are older than Dinosaurs and can live to over 100 years old! They spend most of their lives in water and only go on land to lay their eggs. Sea Turtles return to the same nesting grounds they were born. They can hatch between 70 to 190 eggs and their eggs look exactly like ping pong balls! They can stay underwater for ďŹ ve hours and can travel more than 100,000 miles a year!

FUN FACT: Sea Turtles can’t actually com e out of their shells!

CRAB

Crabs are decapod crustaceans with 10 limbs and a very short tail. They are covered with a thick shell called an exoskeleton, which offers protection from bigger animals. They have a single pair of big claws and they are found in Oceans, fresh water and on land. They walk sideways and during mating season the females lay 100,000 eggs in their stomach!

FUN FACT: JellyďŹ sh do not have hearts, brain s or eyes!

JELLYFISH

A Jellyfish is an Aquatic animal with a smooth, bag-like body and tentacles that sting. Their mouths are in the centre of their bodies and they have to digest their food really fast so that they don’t sink to the bottom of the sea with full stomachs! They tend to live for one year and are a Sea Turtle’s favourite meal. Some glow in the dark and are even bigger than humans! Jellyfish squirt water out of their mouths like a jet to help themselves move.

FUN FACT: Jellyfish do not have he arts, brains or ey es!
