Introduction Why Go Vegan? The planet is constantly being damaged by a variety of different factors. From excessive and unnecessary animal farming to the consumption of nonsustainable materials it is becoming increasingly difficult to live an eco-friendly and self-sufficient lifestyle. The environmental impact of being vegan is five times less than that of non-vegans, meaning it's never been a better time to say no to meat and ditch the dairy! When you ask vegans why they decided to make the change to a plantbased and cruelty-free lifestyle, there are a variety of different reasons for the transition. One of the main reasons people opt for the vegan way of life is because of the cruelty to animals. Many vegans were vegetarian beforehand, but after learning that their dairy, egg, honey and other consumptions were still contributing to the mistreatment of animals they made the switch. By buying dairy and other products, you are still funding the meat industry. Ditch them! Another reason to go vegan is for all of the health benefits associated with living a plant-based lifestyle. Dairy has been proven to be bad for the body, and can contribute to skin and health problems. The plant-based lifestyle also helps cut out many overly-processed foods which are also very difficult for the body to digest and leave you feeling bloated and drained. The plant based diets rarely has you consuming the empty calories of a standard diet, leaving you feeling far less sluggish and often feeling fuller for longer. The environmental impact that eating meat and dairy has can be huge, due to importing foods from all over the world as well as the unsustainable use of palm oil causing irreparable damage to the rainforest. It is important now more than ever to really think about your impact on the environment around you, and to try and live as self-sufficiently and sustainably as possible. Going vegan allows you to make so many changes to the ways you live, shop, eat, cook and also to the quality of your life. Many vegans grow their own herbs, vegetables and other plants, but they also make many of the product they would previously have bought in stores. Some of these products include shampoos, deodorants, lip scrubs and other toiletries as well as making your own plant milks, tofu and sauces. These things are all very easy to do, and can save you some serious cash in the long run. It can also work out a lot cheaper to opt for veganism. Due to what some would call a particularly 'restricted' lifestyle, you can find everything you need regardless of the budget and create a variety of interesting, colourful, filling and delicious foods! From soups to sorbets, anything is possible for a vegan diet!
