Help Your Pet Have a Happy Healthy Holiday The holidays are upon us, and so is the chillier weather. As you bundle up and get cozy with your cocoa, Dr. Jeff Werber, Emmy award-winning celebrity veterinarian, has some tips and tricks on how to ensure your pet has a healthy and happy holiday season. Most dogs, and a lot of cats, can adequately thermoregulate in most temperatures, but smaller

pets may need some help. Doggie coats, like the Wouapy Outdoor or Bubble Coat, are great solutions for the smaller breeds to keep them warm but still mobile while outside. Many cities and municipalities pour salt on sidewalks and streets to help melt snow. This salt can be very irritating to the feet of dogs and cats, so clean their paws after each walk to remove any residue, or, better yet, try some booties to provide necessary protection. This time of year brings a revolving door of guests and the sound of the doorbell constantly ringing which can bring some unexpected stress on your pets. Fiberglass Insulation Tops in Return for Home Renovations A fiberglass insulation upgrade is the home remodeling project that provides the largest percentage return on investment for homeowners according to Remodeling Magazine’s Cost v. Value Report. The report compares the average costs for 29 popular home remodeling projects with the value those projects retain in 99 U.S. markets on a national and regional level. A fiberglass insulation upgrade proved to add the greatest value to the home at 108 percent of the cost of the project, according to Hanley Wood, publisher of Remodeling Magazine. The report estimated the average cost for this upgrade is $1,343 nationwide. The assessment on the potential return gained by the homeowner at resale was provided by real estate professionals responding to the annual survey. Realtors estimated that one year after a fiberglass attic insulation upgrade, the project would increase the value of the home by $1,446. The research specifically estimated the cost of adding blown-in loose fill fiberglass insulation into a 35×30 attic to reach an R-30 insulation value. Adding fiberglass insulation was the only project that had an average national return of more than 100 percent. By comparison, the average cost and average return at resale for the 29 projects in the report amounted to a 64.3 percent return if the home was sold within one year of completing the renovation. “When you consider that this is a relatively small spend for a home renovation project that will increase homeowner comfort, reduce their home energy costs and add value to their largest investment, this is compelling news,” said Curt Rich, President and CEO of the North American Insulation Manufacturers Association. “It also

Don’t Be Left In The Dark

American consumers are about to experience a game-changer in terms of lighting their homes, energy efficiency experts at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency predict. That’s because, according to a new report by the ENERGY STAR program, LED bulbs will become the dominant light bulb technology within the next three years. Once thought to be a lighting technology only for early adopters willing to pay top dollar, LED bulbs are now a possibility for the average consumer, with prices hovering around $2 a bulb or less in many areas. Using less energy, the bulbs pay for themselves in a matter of months and can save households $50 to $100 per year in utility costs. LED bulbs are expected to see widespread adoption by 2020 in significant part because of utility programs continuing to rebate the bulbs and educate consumers about the energy-efficient options that are available. Despite the tremendous savings opportunity, many Americans have yet to experience the LED difference in their own homes. Less than 30 percent of U.S. light bulb sales in 2016 were LED, and according to a report by the business research firm ORC International, most consumers have little knowledge about the various light bulb options available to them. The average American home has approximately 50 light sockets, and about 60 percent of them still contain an inefficient bulb. So the opportunities for energy savings are huge. LED bulbs that have earned the governmentbacked ENERGY STAR label use 70 to 90 percent
