With all that pampering, what else could little Fluffy possibly need? How about Smart Home care for pets? Chances are you’re familiar with smart home technology that automatically brews your morning cup of coffee and gives you the ability to control everything from appliances to lights and security cameras from your phone or mobile device. Manufacturers are now cashing in by creating smart technologies for pet owners. “Plenty of owners travel or work long hours, so they use smart feeding devices to ensure proper access to food and portion control,” says Tierra Bonaldi of the American Pet Products Association. “Others use cameras, treat dispensers, and apps to communicate with their pet and better stay in touch to increase the human-animal bond.” Pet activity trackers let you use GPS to track your pets movements and monitor their walking distance, and automated dog and cat doors enable owners to to set a timer or automatically let pets in, out or both. Need something more? How about the “intelligent” pet drinking fountain from that automatically filters and dispenses the correct volume to keep the water fresh at all times, or the pet-oriented camera that allows you to interact so you can talk to your pet and let them know you love them when you have to stay late at the office.

Garage Door Safety Tips You probably put little thought into your garage door. You touch a button. The door opens, closes and you go about your day. While the garage door - the largest, heaviest moving object in your home - serves as the primary entry point of the home to many of us, it can also be dangerous if not used and maintained properly. Summer is a great time for all homeowners to review important safety tips. Many of these are highlighted in a new safety video at GarageDoorCare.com, a non-commercial website dedicated to helping homeowners understand how garage doors work. Here are a few tips to help keep your family safe: 1. Always keep hands and fingers away from moving parts. Never touch a garage door or its components while the door is in motion. 2. Remotes and openers aren’t toys; however, the buttons may be very attractive to children. Take precautions to keep them out of little ones’ reach. 3. Children should not be able to reach wallmounted controls. Be sure to install push-button wall controls at least 5 feet off the ground. 4. Children and adults should never stand, run or play under a garage door. When a garage door is moving, be sure to stand at least several yards away. 5. Never try to enter or exit the garage by racing under a moving garage door. 6. When opening or closing the garage door, always keep the door in view until the door is

Homeowners can - and should - perform simple chores such as semi-annual lubrication of garage door hinges, rollers and springs. Cool Deck Time Fun In The Summer Sun Getting outside on the deck or porch is an ideal way to relax and escape stifling indoor heat for many Americans. To make sure your outdoor living retreat is a cool oasis, consider these three tips to beat the heat: 1. Create stylish shade While an umbrella or a roll-up sunshade provides a fast and easy way to block direct sun, they can quickly fade or become a dingy eyesore. A stylish alternative is to cast refreshing shade with a gazebo or arbor. With either option, you also can create a lush and fragrant grotto using climbing vines such as roses, clematis, wisteria or honeysuckle. For a weekend do-it-yourself project, look for gazebo and arbor plans on popular social media sites like Pinterest or Houzz. If you prefer to have someone else do the work, many deck builders will complete the project for you without breaking the bank.
2. Spritz yourself with a mister Sunbelt residents and visitors are familiar with outdoor cooling misters installed at popular outdoor cafes, theme parks and other places people gather on hot days. Now, homeowners throughout the U.S. are installing these systems on their decks or porches. The ultrafine droplets of water created by these systems can cool the air as much as 35 degrees. In addition to providing cool and refreshing moisture on hot summer days, some manufacturers report the systems help repel flying insects and clear the air of smoke and pollen. Easy-to-install misters are available online or from your local home improvement store, starting at under $100. 3. Don’t forget the deck surface Many deck surfaces become uncomfortably hot in direct sun. The problem is especially acute for dark-colored deck boards, which absorb heat throughout the day, as well as some dense composite boards that hold heat. As a result, rather than a comfortable stroll to your favorite chair, you might end up hot-footing it across a scorching deck.
