A friend once asked my thoughts on why some people seem to have so much money they can spend huge amounts of it on massive homes with over-the-top amenities while he works so hard and is, in his words, “so poor”. I’ve thought a lot about that lately. I wonder; is someone who is gainfully employed, drives a nice car, owns a comfortable home and enjoys three meals a day really “poor”?

An Answer- There is, however, an easy-to-install solution to put power exactly where you need it on your raised deck: the Red•Dot Deck Grommet, a ruggedpolymer housing, constructed to withstand outdoor conditions, that you install in the deck surface. How to Install It - Trace the bottom end of the flange on the deck surface. Cut out the hole and install the flange into the opening. Secure with the two screws provided. Flooring Trends "Savvy consumers want variety and flexibility in their flooring choices," says Linda Jovanovich of the American Hardwood Information Center. "With American hardwood species running the gamut of color and because hardwood is a product that can adapt to many different decorating styles and decors, hardwood provides a degree of diversity, as well as long-term value, that cannot be matched by other flooring materials." From the trend-watchers at independent market research firm, Market Insights Torcivia, and the National Wood Flooring Association, look at what's trending now.
A touch of the creative * Using multiple wood species is very popular, typically using one species in the main field of the room, then introducing other contrasting species incorporated as a border or other subtle design elements in the room. * Mixed media incorporates hardwood with other flooring options like stone, tile, carpet or even metal. This approach often helps to define different seating or functional areas within a large, open space.
The recovering U.S. housing market has led to increased demand for certain luxury items, including hardwood flooring. Exciting trends are influencing the marketplace and for today's consumers, there are more hardwood flooring options than ever before. * Installing wood floors, in a non-linear format, is increasingly popular as well. Custom parquet patterns can achieve this look but even traditional linear floors can accomplish the same goal by installing the linear pattern on a curve. * Consumer preferences are gravitating toward darker species, like walnut, over the more traditional, mediumcolored white and red oak. In many cases, however, existing oak floors are being refinished and stained to achieve this look without replacing the floor. * Buyers are moving away from the traditional 2 1/4 inches strip floor to wider plank flooring, 3 inches and wider. Random width planks are also popular. This creates a very casual look, while utilizing more of the raw materials during the manufacturing process. * Distressed flooring - hand-scraping the boards will achieve an antiqued look while, at the same time, hiding small imperfections that can appear in flooring over time, like small scratches or dents.-This distressed effect can also be achieved in the factory.
Stains and finishes The National Wood Flooring Association also reports that flooring manufacturers are introducing new lines geared to satisfy the emerging trends toward gray stains and finishes - ranging from very subtle to very dark and metallic finishes. Metallic finishes incorporate softly shimmering metallic accents by embedding the metallic materials into the hardwood. The result is a pronounced grain that shimmers softly in contrast to the rest of the wood. It is difficult to predict if this trend will catch on long-term but it has become increasingly popular, particularly on the West Coast.

Moving Up Should You Sell Your Home First Or Buy One?
The solution to the classic chicken or egg situation in real estate is to make a good buying and selling plan before moving up. This is a classic question that can have two answers and each answer fares well in its own way. It's a good idea to acknowledge that finding a straightforward answer to this question is very difficult, so the only choice you got is assessing your situation carefully and choosing the best option that works for you.

For most people paying two mortgages is too much pressure to handle. Secondly, selling your home first gives you cash in hand so that you can search for the new home peacefully as there is no financial stress on you. In the worst case scenario, selling your home first will land you up with no home at all if you are not able to find a home that meets your expectations in the time-frame. However, you still have your cash in hand, untouched. You can consider buying if it suits you Can you afford two mortgages for a few months or, in worse cases, a year? Are you positive that the new house is a deal hard to come by? If you can handle the financial stress, buying a home first and then selling your previous home can work too. However, don't jump on the wagon simply because you can afford the payments for a couple of months. You also need to evaluate
the market first. If your house is in a seller's market, you have better chances of selling it on time. You can consider borrowing money from your friends and family for the down payment of the second home or apply for a bridge-loan. However, selling a house is time-consuming in most markets, even if it's a sellers a market. You can also apply for a mortgage that is not contingent until you sell the house. It is extremely important to estimate the average time of selling a house in your area and the approximate value for your house. This is a necessary step because homeowners tend to overestimate their house prices, which can cause a problem when the expectations are not met.
