COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION URI’s College of Business Administration will teach you how to approach problems—and solve them— the way businesses do, including use of the latest technology. Today’s business culture demands global expertise, strategic innovation, critical thinking, and effective communication skills. We’re accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, International (AACSB), a distinction held by fewer than 15% of business schools, and we encourage internships, minors, and double majors. Our programs include a double major in Environmental and Natural Resource Economics—Green Business—or a dual-degree program in Chinese, French, German, or Spanish.

BUSINESS WITHOUT BOUNDARIES. “Life is a learning experience and being exposed to different challenges really sets you apart,” says Brian, who moved from the Dominican Republic to Rhode Island with his mother when he was in 7th grade. On a URI faculty-led alternative spring break to Nepal, he earned a certification in Kingian Nonviolence and studied microfinancing gathering ideas for social entrepreneurship projects. He serves as president of the Entrepreneurship Club and as a resident advisor, and recently accepted an internship with the RI Department of Transportation. t

MAKE THE NEWS. SHAPE THE WORLD.

Enrolling in the College of Continuing Education at URI’s Providence campus, Mark soon discovered opportunities ideal for an aspiring foreign news correspondent. Although he was a nontraditional student, he was able to take two honors trips, visiting Birmingham, Alabama with “Classrooms Without Borders” and Belize to study anthropology. He then decided to transition to the Kingston campus. After working as an editor for URI’s student newspaper, he landed an internship

at the U.S. headquarters of the international news network Al Jazeera. The highlight of his internship was covering the World AIDS Conference and meeting activists Al Sharpton, Cornel West, and talk show host Tavis Smiley. Back in RI, he completed his honors capstone project, transforming urban land in Providence into a garden promoting locally grown produce. Following a postgraduate fellowship with Al Jazeera, he is now an associate producer in their Washington D.C. bureau.

FOR ALUMNI, URI IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN AWARD-WINNING JOURNALIST. CNN INTERNATIONAL CORRESPONDENT. INTERVIEWER OF WORLD LEADERS. VOICE TO THE VOICELESS.

As CNN’s man in Nigeria, Vladimir Duthiers ’91 covers West Africa to give voice to the voiceless. This year his coverage of the mass abduction of Nigerian schoolgirls has helped focus the world’s attention on the families desperate for the return of their daughters. The son of Haitian immigrants, he still draws on his URI experiences—from his ROTC training to his political science courses to his work for the student newspaper and radio station. "I learned a lot about the way countries work, how the things you see on the surface are not necessarily what is going on behind the scenes." Duthiers first worked for fellow URI graduate Christiane Amanpour ’83, and later for Anderson Cooper. He was part of the CNN team that won two Emmy Awards for coverage of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Since 2012, he’s followed elections in Ghana, investigated terrorist attacks in Algeria, and in 2013 interviewed former President Bill Clinton during his visit to Lagos.

So what's new with campus living at URI? Quite a bit, actually. For starters, many of our residence halls are either renovated or brand new, and some are even certified environmentally “green.” And the recent additions enable us to offer more living styles to meet your needs.
