1. Ketemu

Andai kau tau, Aku di sini selalu merindumu, Aku rindu pada sosok dirimu yang begitu ceria

Entah gimana keadaanmu sekarang....

Kuala Selangor Fishermen’s Community Centre

[ke.te.mu]

The design aimed to revitalise the town and build a more cohesive community by establishing places and activities that offered advantages to all members of the community, including children, adults, and fishermen.

Ketemu with the concept of ‘Reshaping the Knot’ wishes to establish new relationships inside the existing community so as to create a new kind of community. Ketemu gives the image of a community getting together to celebrate what makes it special. The practise of Ketemu has the effect of reuniting the community.

PLANNING EXECUTION WISE

PublicArea

KETEMU conceptual planning was to create a centralised planning to create focus which gathers most of the community in the middle. With that public area spaces were placed in the middle, while the semi-public and private area were pushed to the side.

The idea of creating a centralised-planning was to enhance the community engagement. Since age gap had been an one of the issue of site, with these planning helps the community from every age group could engage and communicate with each other.

Photovoltaic glass panels is a technology that allows light to be converted into power. Used as both passive and active sustanable. Collects electricity and allow sunlight into the building as natural lighting.

Short length opening allows cross ventilation through the building. The louvers above allows stack ventilation.

The long overhang reduces direct sunlight into the building.

Louvered window allow to control air and sunlight entering the spaces.

FLOOD RESILIENT HOUSING

Given our environment, a flood could erupt suddenly when it rains heavily. The homes were built to withstand flooding.

ISSUE CHRONOLOGY

PAST- Flash flood happened regularly in Shah Alam. Although, the site, Seksyen 23 was not affected, but the nearby district, Taman Sri Muda was affected. The site was located beside Klang river, was one of the reason flooding issues should be tackled in an earliar phases.

PRESENT- Mid-December 2021, Shah Alam affected badly due to the typhoon in Phillipines. The site was also flooded. It raises up to 2 meters height.

FUTURE- The flooding occured regularly and water level getting higher.

CONSTRUCTION WISE

The residence were designed to survived during flood. Flood may occurs unexpected when heavy rains happens; in reference to our climate. In order to reduce any damages and obstruction during the construction phase, the application of IBS system were implimented in the design.

The construction method use in this design was modular construction. Modular construction were prefrabricated at the factory and were then bring to the site to assembled. This would speed up the time of the building to finish and give shelter and safety before the next flood comes.

The units were made of prefabricated modular of hybrid material; lightweight concrete panel and steel. The units were the stacked up horizontally. Additional external steel columns were added to add support and structure towards cantilevered spaces there.

SUSTAINABILITY

The big open in the middle also creates stacked effect. This shows the building have good natural air ventilation

Eventhough the most of the building faces sun orientation, by adding louvers element could reduce excessive natural sunlight penetration into the unit.

The addition of louver folding door, enhances the wind to enter the unit. This balance and cool down the building from the heat from the sun.
