GREEN CHAIR STORIES
I started Green Chair Stories in 2014 while working full-time as a photographer at a nonprofit in Denver. The name came from the chair that sat in my office. It was green (#duh). And it was inviting and comfortable. But more than that, it seemed to beckon people’s feelings. Those who sat in it ended up telling me their stories. People respected the chair and treated it as an almost sacred space. It taught me that people need room to be emotional and I learned that I would like to give them that room. I wanted to capture the true essence of families in an honest, unobtrusive way. The moments from that chair years ago fueled my desire to do documentary family photography. This style gives me freedom photograph raw moments and families the space to be themselves.

writer,
communications team, accountant, chief snack maker, spill cleaner, and CEO of Green Chair Stories. That’s a long way of saying that I run this show by myself and in my pajamas most days. This site, this work, is what I was created to do.
My single greatest joy in life is helping people realize that they are impressive humans. What better way to do that than photograph them with their family? Moms and dads give so much every day and it’s my true honor to photograph those transactions of love.

BEST EVER SERIES
This collection was inspired by something very simple. One day, my sister, her kids and I were sitting somewhere, doing something so ordinary that I can’t even recall what it was. And my nephew looked up at me and said, “You know what guys? This is the best day ever.” And then he proceeded to make up a song about how this was just the best day ever. That one little sentence changed my entire perspective - about parenthood, childhood, my work, and documenting families. It showed me that these seemingly mundane days are sincerely the best of a young family’s life. The repetitive games, the funny phrases, the cleaning up, the mealtimes - they all add up to something so big and so important. Those everyday moments are the very foundation of these little human’s future. In their homes, with their parents and siblings is where they learn about trust and build relationships. It’s where they learn that every day can be the best day ever if it’s spent with the people they love. So this series, these options, are meant to represent your best, most ordinary days: the ones where your family grows and learns and builds the foundation for what is to come.
