Extraordinary Cork Beautiful, Durable & Washable Our specially designed fabric is an all-natural, eco-friendly material that is both luxurious and exceptionally durable. It has a wonderful soft and supple feel to it. Best of all, it gets better with age. Our cork fabric collection is hand-stitched and animal-free. Cork fabric is dust, and stain-repellent, and inherently anti-bacterial and hypoallergenic. Cork does not retain moisture and is therefore waterproof, weather proof, and machine-washable. Bowls make up the core of our cork fabric collection. These can be folded, rolled, and shaped to fit. We make pouches and carriers, and a selection of home and lifestyle accessories using this wonderfully versatile fabric. Cork is harvested from the cork oak tree, one of 425 species of oaks. The average lifespan of the cork oak is 170 years. It is actually the bark of the tree, that is harvested every 10-12 years. Harvesting cork does not harm the tree. But it does make beautiful products.

Hemp Denim Shades Of Blue Hemp is one of the few plants whose by-products can either be eaten, sat on, written on or worn. The entire plant can be used, from seed to foliage, for use in such diverse products as building materials, paper and foods. Hemp has been cultivated for industrial purposes for over 12,000 years. Industrial hemp was the desired fiber used to manufacture rope, canvas, paper, and clothing until alternative textiles and synthetics for these purposes were later discovered.

Hemp is planted in dense crops not allowing sun light to penetrate, which reduces weed growth by 95%, therefore eliminating the need for herbicides. No pesticides are used due to the inherent properties contained in the plant itself - it has the ability to suppress the growth of harmful bacteria and fungi, making it the ideal ‘fiber for our future.’ This means that water quality is improved because there is no toxic runoff from the fields. As a result of this, hemp does not require organic growing certification. Hemp is a cousin to linen, looks and feels similar, and like linen, softens nicely with age. It has eight times the tensile strength and four times the durability of other natural fibers, and is mildew resistant and antimicrobial, making it an excellent yarn for kitchen and dining areas. It is also self-extinguishing and won't burn like cotton, or melt like synthetic fabrics. The textile bambu uses for its Hemp Denim is a blend of hemp and certified organic cotton and is produced in an environmentally friendly, vertically integrated facility using EU approved dyes, and controlled water management.

Coiled & Coconut Traditional & Modern We have been working with the craftspeople of Vietnam for more than a decade. The coiling of bamboo is a centuries-old craft unique to Vietnam. Over 15 steps are required to create a single bowl. We marry modern design and color with this traditional craft. The Yen Tien village in the Nam Dinh province in Northern Vietnam is home to master coilers Van Cong, his wife Thi Huong and their daughter Anh Hong. The Nguyen family coils the bamboo forms for our bowls. They are also rice farmers and are working to provide a good education for Anh Hong. The coconut to make our coconut bowls comes from Southern Vietnam. This is a result of a reclaim program we initiated three years ago. The coconut is harvested for its meat and milk. Normally the shells end up in the landfill or get burned. Instead, we hand select the shells and make them into wonderfully unique bowls.

Locally Sourced For bambu it begins with the material. Our renewable and reclaimed materials are sourced locally in China and Vietnam and generally not found in abundance in North America.
Direct Oversight The principals of the company, Rachel and Jeff, live and work in China. The company produces more than 130 different products, in its own workshop and partner groups, all of which are located close to the raw material source.
