6th Seal Beach Car Show...
LOOKING FOR CHICKS!

April 26th by Chris Travers
Most of the country has “seasons” for their shows. There is the “indoor” season and the “outdoor” season. That somewhat happens here with the Grand National Roadster Show in January being the only real indoor show for us, but nothing says Spring is here better than a day at the beach with Hot Rods, Sunshine, and Surf especially when you package it up in that great little town called Seal Beach. Parking 400+ vehicles up and down Main Street is no easy task especially when the staff was new for 2014 but everything worked out great with front row parking on Ocean thanks to Glenn Kerr, Pickups Limited of Orange County had a total of 24 spots for members and friends to occupy. People watching was at it’s best. Plenty to see and plenty to eat and do. Photos continued on page 14

Welcome to the 32nd Annual F-100 Western Nationals...
by Steve Stillwell
Stealing a line from the Wednesday Camel, (Guess what day it is?), it is time to say, Guess what the third weekend in June is? It is time for the 32nd Annual F-100 Western Nationals and a West Coast Ford Family Reunion that only happens once a year. I am well aware that the classic Ford community looks forward to each issue of Pickups Limited, OC’s Newsletter, so I am taking this opportunity to ensure all of you know about the upcoming F-100 Western Nationals for 2014! Conceived as a complementing event to the North/South Run, The F-100 Western Nationals has survived; make that grown, from its meager beginnings as a parking lot show along the banks of the Colorado River. Ironically, the concept of having the Western Nationals become a long-distance haul to the iconic F-100 Supernationals held each May in Tennessee changed the Western Nationals forever. From that time, the concept of holding a hot, river run was changed to adopting Canyon RV Park in Anaheim as home plate as our growing crowd appreciated the Pacific Ocean breezes, green grass and shade of full grown trees over a melting hot blacktop hotel parking lot. The move has received positive complements from our growing attendance, and maybe best of all, out growing vendor list that bring all the parts required for the preservation and restoration of our common interest – fat fendered old Ford trucks. We hit a little bump in the road last year by having long-time event sponsor and attendee, Pat Ford, having to make a detour to an event to debut’ Dennis Carpenter’s all metal 40 Ford body. Matter of fact, Pat will be showing it off to this year’s crowd at the Western Nationals! That also means he is returning to our 2014 event which means the Dennis Carpenter endorsement of our club event has also returned. I also wish to point out the return of Mid-Fifty to our 2014 show after having taken last year off due to an untimely family tragedy. If you read this in time, take advantage of Mid-Fifty’s offer to provide free delivery of parts ordered before the show. I was surprised to see just how many of you took advantage of this money saving offer! It’s great to see the crew returning. Speaking of sponsors and vendors, welcome to Ken Grody Ford, The Fan Man, Dan Carpenter, Glenn’s Alignment, Vintage Vinyl, Tuff Skin, Bruce Horkey Cabinetry, LMC, AAA Insurance, Classic Performance Products, First Place Powder Coating, Junk Yard Find.com, Lynette Fisher/Keller Williams Arizona Living, Flat Out Engineering, Surf City Garage and our other weekend vendors of quality products. We will miss Frank Silva and Cruisin’ T’s as he lost his battle with leukemia. However, event T-shirts will be available at our registration booth. If there is anything we can do to ensure your Saturday at Canyon RV, Featherly Park in Anaheim, Ca on Saturday, June 21st is a truly fun-filled day, feel free to let us know how we can assist. Look for our special OC logo on white shirts and we will be happy to assist. So mark June 21st on your calendar and ensure your spot at the West Coast’s finest all Ford truck show.

PARTS ID Quiz #1... by Dale Beverley
Recognize that part? Hopefully if you are a 1953-56 F-100 owner and your truck is sitting on the original frame, that particular part is still attached to the frame of your truck and is intact. It is the original engine/trans mount cross member for our F-100’s and it serves as one of the major structural components of the truck chassis. Over 40 years ago I learned about the importance of this part the hard way. The second F-100 I bought as a teenager had a big block ford FE engine installed when I bought it. The previous owner had cut the crossmember back to make room for the transmission in this particular swap. I didn’t really notice at the time but the top of the frame rails had already rolled out from the weight of the cab on the forward cab support arms. Because of that, the cab floor was in contact with the frame. Adding further to the problem, the truck had been converted to power steering. This particular power steering conversion used an integral steering box mounted in place of the original steering box and it came with additional linkage which connected it to the right passenger steering arm. As a result the load from steering was now being transferred on a totally unsupported part of the frame because of the missing crossmember. It would literally stretch the frame an additional inch when turning the front wheels while parking. Original steering linkage on an F-100 frame is placed parallel to the frame rails so it would not have been affected by the cross member removal to the extent that this power conversion steering was doing. Now because my first truck was all original as far as its drivetrain and chassis I at least had some kind of reference as to what a standard truck was supposed to act and handle like. I did notice there seemed to be a lot of interesting noises coming from this modified truck when turning. My original truck never made those type of noises. Investigating further I realized that the absence of that crossmember was to blame. Needless to say I made a replacement crossmember that bolted on to the frame which corrected the problem. If your truck needs this part talk to one of the following club members and see their solutions. Rich Miller, who has a really nice bolt in crossmember which you can see here on the left. Chris Travers who has an extra crossmember now to work with on his solution, will be using the layout that Larry Lopez has on his ‘56 which you can also see on page 13. You can also ask me, I still have an extra crossmember or two for a club member in need. Remember... this is important!
Cathy Cangro It was good to see our club members that could make it Saturday April 12th to Cathy’s Celebration of Life. Hosted by her family at their daughter Denise’s house, there was an outstanding offering of art and paintings that were offered to guests that had been created by Cathy. The entire Cangro family has been a very active part of Orange County Pickups Limited since they have joined us in 2006. We were fortunate to have known Cathy and she will be missed by us all. EDITORIAL... F-100 Western Nationals Preview by Chris Travers
Have you made your plans yet? No.... well why not? You don’t want to miss out on one of the best gatherings of the year, the F-100 Western Nationals at Canyon RV Park in Anaheim. This event is more than your run-of-the-mill car show. IT’S AN EVENT! It doesn’t matter if this will be your first visit of your 31st visit, there is always something new to see and do.
Starting on Friday June 20th, we will do an old fashion cruise down to the beach to check out the “beautiful people of Orange County”. No, we won’t see the “Real Housewives of Orange County” but I can guarantee that we will see some unreal houses and views of Corona Del Mar and beyond. We will hit Laguna Beach at Low Tide so be sure to bring your rock climbing shoes as we will stop at the tide pools for a great adventure. You may want to bring a towel just in case you get splashed or you can watch the fun from the park above. Bring some quarters for the parking meters which run about $2.25 per hour. The cruise continues up Laguna Canyon before we stop for lunch and continue back to our starting point. BUT THAT’S JUST THE BEGINNING! There will be a “No Host” dinner starting at 6:00pm Friday evening at El Torito, right next to the headquarters Hotel (Ayers Suites). Come and join old friend and make some new ones and have some great food, drinks, and maybe even a taste of Uncle Walt’s famous Cherries! They are powerful but good. And all of this is before the show even begins. There is no such thing as a bad parking space at Canyon RV, but plan to arrive early to avoid the lineup at the gate on Saturday. Several food trucks will be on site to address those hunger pains. Come and enjoy!

What’s The Latest in our Chapter?
FROM MIKE HAY - Here is a shot of my Corvette headed to Arizona for the new ZF6 six speed trans, aboard Mas’ trailer. We loaded my Vette on Mas’ trailer, Sunday morning the 13th. Dianne is just off screen to the right. My dear friends Dale and Kathy are towing it to Arizona, their home, then on to Cave Creek, later in the week for the transmission work. This is typical of the folks in our club, these two are gems of rare order! What the club today is mostly about, is service and support to each other. The trucks are merely the lube. A recent gathering brough Larry & Rhonda out in his seldom seen Falcon. Cool car for sure and those wheels... They look really familiar to your editor.
Joe Miranda brought his slant cab out to the April meeting. Joe says he is working front to back on the paint but Dusty thinks he is going the wrong way!

Early one morning at the Donut Shop...
Just one more cup of coffee and I’ll be OK!
It happens weekly rain or shine, every Saturday throughout the year. No matter if it is a holiday or a regular day, hundreds of people, cars, trucks, and who knows what show up at the corner of Magnolia & Adams in Huntington Beach for the ritual better known as the Donut Derrelicts. No rules, no dues, no drawings... just plenty to see and people to talk to. If you dont bring a friend with you, you will make several new friends while you are there. This particular day was the early morning of our Safety Check so there was a solid number of F-100’s in the lot from our Chapter adding to the large number of other Fords. This world famous weekly event has proven to be one of our best recruiting locations for our events and membership and there are always plenty of Fords present to check out.

Annual Orange County Chapter Safety Check... March 15 th
There are lots of special things that Pickups Limited of Orange County does to set us apart from most other car clubs in our area, but there is nothing at all that competes with our annual safety check to set the foundation for a first class organization. For those of you that don’t know, article 5 of our Chapter By Laws mandates an annual safety inspection for each truck. That’s where Rudy Weber comes in. As the Safety Coordinator since 2007, Rudy has been the driving force behind the safety of our trucks and the motivation behind a ton of repairs and upgrades. Nothing slips past him. Without Rudy as a driving force and the cooperation of Glenn Kerr and his staff, we would never be able to produce the high quality of inspection that we are capable of. Sure we are just a bunch of amateurs, but very few professional shops will crawl all over and under your ride and produce a check list like ours. See page 37 for a copy of the inspection check list.

The most critical inspectors of the day are always the other guys. There is nothing like good old peer pressure to get you to change that oil, wipe up the drips, tighten a few bolts, and even lay under the truck with some rags, Windex, and Pledge to make things look good. But no matter how much of this you do, they will always find something. A good example of this was the few missing bolts on exhaust systems this year... mine included! There were a few on-site repairs performed like front brakes for Don Waltz and the replacement of a steering rack boot clamp for Jerry, but nothing major like in the past. It just goes to show you that we are getting better and better each year. The last great thing about our safety check is that it always ends with a great social gathering, which always means food. Glenn rolls out the grill and deep fry equipment for a great BBQ. We are what makes this special. Like Mike says the trucks are just the lube!

Probably the best modified crossmember I have seen belongs to Larry Lopez. Larry removed the rivits from his old Transmission Crossmember and replaced them with some nice Grade 5 bolts and nuts allowing the removal of this crossmember for proper transmission service. Note also how Larry backed up a badly damaged frame rail at the same time.
Dusty and Mike demonstrate what this Chapter is all about as they jumped in to do a fast brake job for Don Waltz Often times it is important to not only have the correct tool, but to know how to use it. Here the old master himself Glenn Kerr replaces the clamp on Jerry’s steering rack boot. How many of you guys have a zip tie on yours and watch it leak all the time? Just see Glenn and get it done right the first time. Jerry Alford shows us the importance of checking that tire pressure... he was down to about 18 pounds and he never knew it! Give Me A Brake... by Glenn Kerr
Need A Little Boost? Tony emailed me the other day. He had installed a power brake booster on his truck and had a couple of questions. He was concerned he wasn’t getting enough vacuum. Here we’ll discuss what we do in the shop when diagnosing a potenial power booster or related problem.
First Things First
First let me say this. There’s an order to things. All things. Checking for brake problems is no different. If you go out of order, or skip a step or assume something is OK without verifying it, you’re setting yourself up for failure. I can’t stress this enough. Let’s say you just installed that Super Johnny power booster / master assy from Local Yocal Truck Supply. After a skillful installation and two hours of bleeding, the brake pedal just doesn’t feel right. It’s somewhat soft and has too much travel. Now your frustrated!
OK, Back to Basics
Measure the engine vacuum. You need to know what’s there. If it’s too low, you need to know it. If it’s OK, you need to know that too. 15 inches of vacuum is the bare minimum for power brakes, and is marginal at best. 18 inches or more and you’re good.
Just A Little Pinch
Next pinch off all the rubber brake hoses. Hopefully you haven’t used the braided steel. I use small needle nose vice grip pliers with rubber tubing over the ends. Anything you can use to pinch the lines will work. You just don’t want to squeeze too tight and damage the hose. After all the hoses are pinched off, check the pedal at idle. It should be rock solid and have very little travel. 18 www.pickupslimited.com
Hauln’ Freight • MAY - JUNE 2014
What you’re doing is determining if the problem is at the wheel end or master/booster end.
Are We There Yet
If the pedal is where it should be, then the issue is at the wheel end. Possible causes are, air in the system, too much fluid displacement for the master cylinder bore size, rear brakes out of adjustment or some other unknown, yet to be discovered issue. You can un-pinch the front or rear wheels in pairs or one wheel at a time to locate where the issue might be.
How Low Can You Go
If the pedal is too low with everything pinched, then possible causes are air still in the master, push rod miss-adjustment from booster to master or an issue with the booster. Just because it’s all new doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Or you could have some combination of all these things. Start to eliminate them one at a time until things are working as they should.
When Good Plans Aren’t
When things don’t go as planned, we stop and start over at the beginning. Don’t skip a step or start in the middle. You could get lucky, or not. Just do it right.
As always, if you have any questions, please free to call me. And as always, if I don’t know the answer or can’t find one, I’ll make one up that sounds plausible.

REALITY... by Chris Travers
It is really difficult to understand human nature and the constant source of entertainment it provides us. The only admission charge we have is that of following the Golden Rule while carrying a camera with us as much as possible. I am often provided unique pictures from members and friends that I share with you but this issue includes these gems that were all taken recently while just going about my everyday business around town. These shots may not be my reality or yours, but they are sure real for their owners! Is this an attack?

Members, Family and Friends Gather To Say Fairwell April 12th this year, members, family and friends gathered in Lakewood at Dan and Cathy’s daughter’s house in remembrance of Cathy Cangro. Our heartfelt condolence and love go out to Dan and his family for their loss. Another Angel has returned to heaven from where she came. Dan Cathy met in high school at a party. The story goes that none of the girls would give Dan the time of day, except Cathy. Later Dan found out she told all the other girls to stay away from him, he was hers. They were 16. By the time they were 19 they were married. Cathy was an accomplished artist. Watercolors were her media of choice. Many of her works portray beach and marine life themes. Her talent was exceptional. She also taught art professionally to others. Deep in the stillness, I can hear you speak. A breath not far away to where you are. With a smile that will never fade. God be with you till we meet again

Vintage Speaker Rebuild... by Mike Hay
Vintage. An old word, defined by Webster as: of old, recognized, and enduring interest, importance, or quality. While eruditely describing our club members and our trucks, it is approaching overuse in a related field: audio gear, specifically late 60s’ until CDs won the mass market. I was asked to write about two recent projects, somewhat tied to our shared hobby. In the past few years, vintage audio gear has become ‘hot’. Much of that era’s gear is deservedly commanding premium pricing; other just asking a lot! A cottage industry has sprung up, across America, reconditioning it. I dived into high fidelity stereo equipment in 1972, importing various Japanese receivers and speakers, primarily Sansui, from Pony LTD., near Yokota AB, Japan. I, however, wanted something different and bought a used McIntosh receiver/amp, Altec Lansing speakers and a German turntable. SoCal saw a production boom from Altec, JBL, Marantz, Fischer, Soundcraftsman, and many others. Sellers now include foreign brands as vintage, but the word is losing its connotation of high quality. I bought a classic pair of larger Advent speakers in rare walnut cases. Each needed new foam surrounds for suspension of the cone woofers (low frequency), having deteriorated to near dust with age. A top national repair and parts source is OC Speaker in Garden Grove. As this was my first such repair, they checked the voice coil movement, but the actual re-foaming was easy for me to do. In two-way speakers, the tweeter reproduces the high frequency sound, but one was not making any sound due to a bad capacitor in the crossover network (simple electronic device that separates high from low frequencies, sending each to the proper transducer (speaker). Many capacitors (all electrolytic types) deterirate with age, even COULD THIS BE MIKE’S NEXT PROJECT? unused, so all were replaced. The sound working well, the nice walnut veneer sides and solid walnut facias were refinished with old-school materials. They looked and sounded superb and sold rather quickly. My net was about ten cents an hour for labor, but the satisfaction of accomplishing a new task! I ‘stole’ a pair of unusual and rare Magneplanar™ speakers in Fallbrook. Planars produce sound by vibrating a large, flat surface, versus cones in most speakers. Both transform varying electrical signals into sound waves (energy) via electromagnetism. “Maggies” employ a large, thin Mylar film with wires glued to them. The electrical signal from an amplifier passes through those wires, creating the varying electromagnetic field, pushing and pulling vibrating the mylar in a magnetic field from permanent magnets in the frame. Cone speakers employ a voice coil, similarly, with typically a higher mass/power ratio. Basic physics F/M=A applies here, as the Force is large, the Mass low, so the acceleration (movement) (A) is very fast, resulting in a very accurate (high fidelity) speaker. This shows the original wires; the whitish spots are oxidized portions of the aluminum wires which may or not be broken. The blackish dashed lines near the top, is indicative of the permanent magnets in the structure. The new wires get laid in 3M™ #77 adhesive, between such dark lines. Also two-way speakers, the thick wires carry lower frequencies while hair-like thin wires, barely visible, top right, make it tweet! Taking a few days each, rewiring one entirely before stripping the other kept this demanding task accurate. Two coats of a water-based special glue/sealant were brushed on before soldering all connections. The bronze color was replaced by white. 28 www.pickupslimited.com
Hauln’ Freight • MAY - JUNE 2014
My ‘steals’ were silent due to the aluminum wires having corroded and broken; infinite on an ohm meter, but the Minnesota company sells kits for rewiring and recovering their vintage products. The instruction sheet was okay, but online sources offered photos for this daunting task. Being unable to resist a challenge, I used acetone to remove the original glue and wires, then to clean the Mylar, as new. One small tear in that film was fixed with Scotch ™ tape!
Also replaced was the frame wiring and the internal crossover. Remember what that is? The final task was making new crossover boxes. Salvaged solid oak from an old couch, plastic from an old real estate sign, plus some 1/8” aluminum sheeting formed the enclosure for it, encasing some very high quality electronic parts, sourced from Wisconsin and Canada. The gold connectors enhance electrical contact and resist corrosion. The internal circular part is a solid copper ribbon coil; rather heavy! I glued the custom wiring diagram to the inside lid for documentation. The copper coils are inductors which are like shock absorbers, in that they smooth the voltage variations with the expanding and collapsing magnetic fields generated by those coils.
Wide, scrap steel was made into L-shaped feet, bolted to new internal structure, similar to newer models. Sliced in half both ways, the four pieces were heat-bent to allow a slight aft tilt of the speakers. TIG welding filled the holes in the scrap steel. Grinding, sanding, drilling, tapping new threads and painting are truck fabrication tasks! The anchors for the new feet, visible through the socks, were painted flat black in the final form Internals complete, new gray ‘socks’ were slipped over each, stapled at the bottom. The oak frame was reattached; the feet attached with custom spacers and new brass hardware. The result amazed me in appearance, but more-so audibly. This is quite likely the only pair of these on the planet. My learning done, skills improved, they sold to a nice man (also car guy) from Vietnam (Westminster, too); again ten cents an hour, maybe. Again, the satisfaction of a job well done.

A Woman’s Observation & Reflection of PULOC... by Dianne Hamano Now that the sixth annual Jeff’s Fun Run is in the books, I would like to reflect on how it started and the growth of club. Mas and I were in the process of refurbishing his ’56 F-100 when we met Jeff Hornsby and Ed Oe at a Western Nationals event. They invited us to a meeting. On that first meeting, we were welcomed by Gloria and Dale Beverly and invited to sit with them. At that time, the meetings were held wherever the club could find a place to hold their meetings. Usually it was a place to eat and have a meeting and this one was at Original Mikes in Santa Ana. The club was just starting to grow again and there was lots going on. After attending a few meetings and an outing, we joined. Now that we have been members for a while, we have seen the club grow and become the premiere Pickups Limited of Southern California Chapter with our meetings held at the Ken Grody’s Ford Dealership in Buena Park. After PULOC’s president Jeff Hornsby’s sad and sudden passing in January of 2009, members wanted to honor him for his leadership and love of this club. Chris Travers suggested a porker run, which was one of Jeff’s passions, because it brought vehicle enthusiast together for fun and friendship. In a matter of 11 days, Chris had Jeff’s Fun Run organized! We held our sixth annual Jeff’s Fun Run on January 18th. There was a beautiful sunrise as members of PULOC gathered early at Ken Grody Ford in Buena Park to ready for the event. I think Jeff was up there watching over this event happy and proud of what this event has become. This event has raised thousands of dollars for cancer research. Soon all sorts of vehicles started to arrive. Classic cars, hot rods, trucks, everyday driving cars, motorcycles, groups from other clubs, people from out of state, and one from Argentina to go along with the French TV/Photo journalist! It was just a wonderful array of people and vehicles ready to start the day and, if the sunrise was a hint for the future of the club, a bright New Year! That was my observation! Now, my reflection! I want to commend all the members of Pickups Limited of Orange County for their commitment and dedication to making each event successful and fun. The “Fun” was another one of Jeff’s passions. I also want to reflect on Chris Travers’ commitment to the club. I know most of you know he puts our outstanding newsletter together. He also heads the organization of Jeff’s Fun Run. It is a lot of work! His attention to detail and meticulous organization and contacts help make our club “known” and become the premiere Pickups Limited Chapter in Southern California and the fastest growing. You can see with the leadership of the club and the head of each event and each member’s participation, each are dedicated, friendly, caring and generous and want to keep this Chapter the premiere Chapter. With our club’s successful and fun events as the F-100 Western Nationals, Jeff’s Fun Run, our truck inspection, Christmas party, and club cruises, Mas and I have seen the dedication and growth and are proud to be associated with the people of such a wonderful organization as Pickups Limited, Orange County Chapter! Tour d’Orange, The Best Event that NEVER HAPPENS! January 1
st
Sorry, I missed this event in the last issue, but it is always worth waiting for. To start off 2014, I was able to catch a ride with Glenn Kerr which made the picture taking really nice as there is plenty to see. This year we even had a great band to start the morning off with about 500 vehicles of all sizes, shapes, values, and attitudes to match. Where else can you see a batch of Ferraris next to Smart Cars, mixed with guys driving Mustangs with yellow wigs? First timers Dale & Gloria Beverley joined with Mike and April Hay for a great morning of fun and driving. I think my favorite car was the 40’s blue Plymouth that was a total sleeper. This thing has a built 440cdi in it and sounded really great... you can NEVER have too much horsepower!

Bigfoot Speaks...
by Rudy Weber
The garage of the month belongs to Glenn Kerr and it’s more than just Glenn’s Alignment & Brake Service. Glenn’s garage is his living dream came true. He works all day in his own garage/play yard. When one of our club members (myself included) take our truck to Glenn, he personally makes sure that the work is done like if it was his own truck. He takes care of other problems that come up plus all the things we found wrong during our yearly truck inspections that we are not able to care for ourselves. This is only the garage you see when you drive up, what you can’t see is Glenn’s personnel Man Cave garage out back. His Hot Rod/Commercial garage is what you see up front but out back is his “reel” garage full of fishing stuff. You name it and Glenn has it. A fully stocked garage to make himself one of the best sports fishers on the West Coast. Check out the fishing reel and fishing rod rebuilding work shop along with every thing you could think of to help Glenn be the best fisherman he can be. I know this is the answer to why Glenn almost never wants to drive out of Orange County. He only drives inland as far he can go and still smell the surf, or to the extent that he still has line on his reel, or as long as he can still see the coast from the top of a hill. Lets chip in and get Glenn a cupie doll on a surf board for his dash, this might help him extend his rides inland. Big Foot, Rudy Weber

JOIN IN THE NATIONAL CELEBRATION OF COLLECTOR CAR APPRECIATION DAY ON JULY 12, 2013 What is it?
The SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced July 12, 2013 as “Collector Car Appreciation Day.” The date marks the fourth commemoration in what has become an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. SAN is again working to secure a Congressional resolution to recognize the day’s significance.
How will it be celebrated?
In recognition of the day, thousands of Americans will gather at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our nation’s automotive heritage. By taking part in these events around the country, these automotive enthusiasts and related businesses ensure that their passion is honored and recognized.
Where can I get more information?
For the listing of National Collector Car Appreciation Day events, visit www.SEMASAN.com/CCAD. Individuals, car clubs and business owners interested in publicizing events should contact SAN Director Colby Martin at 909/978-6721 or san@sema.org.
What can I do?
If you own an antique, muscle car, hot rod or any other collector car, celebrate this historic day by attending a car show, club gathering cruise-in, or simply by driving and being seen in your special ride on Friday, July 12, 2013. Share your experiences and photos on SAN’s Facebook page. If you are unable to celebrate on July 12th, SAN encourages events to be scheduled throughout the month of July.

Each year Pickups Limited of Orange County assists the Chino Kiwanis Club as the parking attendants for their annual Corn Feed Run. Even with a change of date from late August to late March, the show actually posted a large increase in attendance to over 600 entries! Besides helping with the event, we enjoyed the unique displays including working steam engines, show semi-trucks and trailers, tractors, and even one guy that was roasting chicken with a home made unit! The event also features a nice cruise route, tons of vendors, and an open header contest.

Would Your Truck Pass This Test? As a member of Pickups Limited we will do our best to see that you can pass this test. Our annual inspection is the most complete checkup your truck will ever receive. This 71 point check was designed by AMATURE car guys to cover things that happen to our 50+ year old vehicles. Heck, a Platinum pre-owned luxury vehicle from Fletcher Jones Motorcars only has a 90 point checkup so we aren’t that far behind with how we reat our Fat Fendered Fords. If you missed the safety check in March, contact Rudy Weber for an appointment and a make up inspection... He makes House Calls and there is no charge to club members! You might even find one in your own neighborhood! If you feel adventurous, you can even build a brand new 1956 F-100 from parts that many vendors provide! • Where can I get parts and repairs? Check the flip side for a listing of great vendors that support Pickups Limited. • Can I do repairs myself? Many of us do most of the mechanical tasks ourselves. That’s half the fun. There also are many books available from mechanical to paint and body to interior total restoration. • Do I have to own a truck to join? Yes but it can be a work in progress. The love for the truck is what comes first. If you are looking for a truck, maybe we can help. • Do I have to be a member to participate in Club events? Not at all! Non members are always welcome. But if you do a "Run" in something other than a F-1 or F-100, we might ask you to follow the pack. • How can I get a ride in a F-100? Show up at a meeting or event and ask! • How can I join Pickups Limited? Come to a meeting or one of our events for the first step. There is a basic probationary period required. • Do I need special insurance for such an old vehicle? Not really, it depends on the value of the truck. Many companies will offer premium coverage although there are speciality insurance carriers that can insure your baby for the full stated value.
