Playlist: The Altar and the Door Colossians 2:6-7 Rev. Elizabeth Gilbert
Surely you’ve had the experience of walking into a room to retrieve something specific, or perform some specific task, only to find that you have completely forgotten what that item or task was. It’s common. And it is so frustrating! Why can’t we remember simple tasks beyond just a few steps?!
Today’s Scripture From the Shadows to the Substance
My counsel for you is simple and straightforward: Just go ahead with what you’ve been given. You received Christ Jesus, the Master; now live him. You’re deeply rooted in him. You’re well constructed upon him. You know your way around the faith. The same thing happens in our spiritual Now do what you’ve been taught. School’s lives. We come to church on Sunday. out; quit studying the subject and start We have a moving worship experience. living it! And let your living spill over into We hear a teaching from the Bible that thanksgiving.
makes sense and gives us hope. Sitting in Colossians 2:6-7 (MSG) worship we are all in and ready to go out into the world with a new perspective on faith and life. But somewhere between our seat in worship and the parking lot we forget what we were going to do. How do we remember important things in our everyday lives? How can our experience with God on Sunday transfer into that everyday life? Something happens between the altar and the door. Jesus gives us the power to make it something memorable and meaningful!
We are so glad to welcome you to worship this morning! If you are new to PUMC, you are invited to stop by the Welcome Center located in the south lobby. A PUMC member is there to welcome you and answer your questions. In Clayton Hall (north end of building) you’ll find refreshments and a place to chat and meet people. Please make yourself at home.
