Justin Trudeau is Failing to Remove Dangerous Criminals from Canada: Rempel
T
he Honourable Michelle Rempel, Shadow Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, issued a statement following a report that the Trudeau government is failing to carry out deportations for public safety and security reasons: “Justin Trudeau is failing to carry out deportations for dangerous criminals from Canada and return them to their country of origin. The number of removal orders that have been issued has skyrocketed in the last few years, and officials have confirmed that individuals are being ‘lost in the wind’. “By failing to remove dangerous criminals from Canada, the Trudeau government is undermining the integrity of our immigration system. Canadians expect that individuals who do not have a legal right to be here, or have committed a serious crime, must be removed from our country.
PAGE 6
“It is no wonder the Liberal government is failing to deport dangerous criminals when the entire immigration system is facing significant backlogs. For a government that tweeted #welcometoCanada, it is completely unacceptable that the Liberals failed to address this issue in Budget 2018. “Canada’s Conservatives believe in a compassionate immigration system that prioritizes the world’s most vulnerable, while also ensuring that those who play by the rules and enter Canada through legal channels are not forgotten. Justin Trudeau must answer for his failure to keep the most basic functions of our immigration system working.”

More people to have quicker access to dental surgery
B
ritish Columbia hospitals will perform 900 more dental surgeries in the coming year to improve access to care for vulnerable children and adults, Health Minister Adrian Dix announced today. This represents the largest onetime increase in dental surgery ever in British Columbia. The total number of surgeries will grow by 15%, from 6,200 in 2017-18 to 7,100 in 201819. The increase in surgeries will support children and adults throughout B.C. who require general anesthetic for their dental procedures, e.g., due to developmental disabilities or complex medical conditions. The result will be a substantial reduction in wait times for people currently suffering in pain. “We are answering a call from dentists, patients and parents to fix a growing waitlist and make sure that vulnerable people – who are not safely able to get dental care without anesthesia – have more timely access to dental treatment when they need it,” said Dix. “I have heard from parents whose sons and daughters are suffering for long periods in pain, in some cases without any understanding of what is happening to them. This is something we need to address, and that is why we are taking action today.”
inform wait-time guidelines and protocols that the ministry will use to further improve timely access for patients that require dental care in a hospital setting in 2018-19.
“On behalf of B.C. dentists, thank you for improving access to care for children and adults with disabilities,” said Jocelyn Johnston, executive director of the BC Dental Association. “Dental disease does not resolve itself, which leaves patients in chronic pain. Many of these patients require medical support, such as access to an operating room, for the safe delivery of care. Improved access will allow these patients to resume life free from dental pain and infection.”
Dental care ranges from preventive care to fillings, root canals, tooth extractions and dental prosthetics, such as crowns or dentures. These are most often provided in dental offices under local anesthesia or sedation. For some patients, including those with developmental disabilities, general anesthesia is required to ensure the patient’s safety and comfort during their dental care, In 2016-17 17.3% of people waited even for scaling and polishing of teeth. more than 26 weeks for their dental The work that will be undertaken over surgery. study led by SFU’s Somers Research group has found that opiate drug treatments are linked to significantly lowering the risk of violent and non-violent crimes—by about a third—among patients diagnosed with opioid dependence and with prior convictions. This 17-year longitudinal cohort study, published in the leading journal Addiction, is the first comprehensive study to analyze the links between medication and crime. Community Art Space Launches at The Reach Staff and Board at The Reach are pleased to announce the launch of an inclusive new initiative for groups of all kinds to exhibit their art at The Reach. The Community Art Space program is an application-based opportunity for artist and community groups to exhibit their art at The Reach. “This project is a natural outgrowth of a longstanding commitment to presenting communitybased artworks at The Reach” says Laura Schneider, Executive Director of The Reach, “we’re excited to create a means for these kinds of projects to have a consistent presence in our exhibition program. ”A crowd of nearly 200 gathered at The Reach on Thursday night for the opening reception of the inaugural exhibition, Hear and See: Poetry and Art for Mental Health. The unique project is organized by Communitas Supportive Care Society, which provides services for people living with mental health challenges. For the exhibition, 14 poets were invited to share their experiences with mental illness, and were paired with 14 visual artists who have responded to their words in a variety of mediums, from paint to pho-
tography to sculpture. The exhibition runs until May 6th, 2018, and a poetry reading and artist talk is planned for Thursday May 3rd at 7:00 pm. Groups interested in participating in the 2019 Community Art Space program are invited to apply, applications are available on The Reach’s website and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Successful applicants will exhibit works for two month periods in the studio space. Through generous sponsorship from the Lohn Foundation, exhibiting groups will receive support for marketing, hosting an opening reception, and delivering a public program. “Whether you are an art club or society, a school group, or a social services organization, if you have works of art you’d like to present, we’d like to hear from you!” says Anna Williams, Education Programmer at The Reach. The Reach Gallery Museum Abbotsford is located at 32388 Veterans Way. For more information on the Community Art Space program and other programming visit: www.thereach.ca

Hotel and airport workers elect BC’s first Chinese-Canadian union president Vancouver, BC: At 2pm today, Zailda Chan will be sworn in as President of UNITE HERE Local 40. Surrounded by the workers she represents at the Hyatt Hotel, Zailda Chan will celebrate alongside other newly-elected officers, Christina Bencze (Finance SecretaryTreasurer) and Nomelita (Noy) Paguio (Vice-President), all women. “Our new executive includes workers from all over the province – from Victoria to Prince George. We are a force to be reckoned with,” said Zailda Chan. “One of my proudest moments over the last decade as a union organizer was fighting to ensure that cafeteria workers at Simon Fraser University kept their contract, jobs, wages, benefits, years of service and, most importantly, their dignity, when their employer put their contract out to a new bidder,” said Zailda Chan. “Too often in BC, employers don’t take their obligations to workers seriously enough. A contract is a contract. At Local 40, our members’ rights come first. It’s about respect.”
The great-great-granddaughter and grandniece of Vancouver railway workers from China – most of whom paid the “head tax” a century ago - Zailda Chan’s journey to the top of UNITE HERE Local 40 began at home. Zailda Chan moved to Canada with her parents and siblings at 13 years old. Emigrating from Venezuela – having left earlier from one of the poorest regions in Guang Dong province of China – Zailda Chan’s parents took on garment work from home at ten cents per piece. Her family’s story is one of surviving low wage jobs, layoffs and subcontracting where the employer paid her mother nearly one-third the wage they had paid to its previous unionized workforce. Zailda Chan took her family’s early experiences of racism, poverty and under-employment, and built her commitment to fight for fairness, dignity and respect for every family.

Something can begin to stir in your mind about action, which would be best taken when it comes to future goals. You could begin to gain a clearer picture of the commitments you would need to be prepared to make. There can be a tendency to overlook the amount of finer detail involved but you will find out soon enough.
Activities with others but particularly within a group of people can be most enjoyable. It could turn into something bigger than you initially expect. Be cautious about anything you are pressed to agree with or any person who is very strong about their ideas as it will be difficult to gauge exactly what they are looking for.

You can feel challenged with what might seem never ending matters to deal with on a daily basis and that there is no conclusion in sight. Rather than worry too much about this you should take an optimistic view on it working out satisfactorily. You do have support from people who have authority, so it will all work out eventually.
Anything you are uncertain about when it comes to the expectations of others, you should simply ask questions. If they don’t want to tell you it will be made very clear but this may not necessarily be the way things go. Anything practical that needs to be dealt with or impacts upon things on a daily basis can be sorted quite easily.
The Full Moon this week occurs in your sign. This can generate much self- awareness when it comes to your own position and that of others. You could feel overwhelmed by others right now but much is up to the way you decide to respond. You can be strong-minded about the manner in which you want to establish matters
It is important you get the right information that will enable you to get on top of any situation that makes you feel like a slave to circumstance. This is challenging you to put a structure in place that will be enduring but also something that you can have greater control over. If money is involved it is possible to improve the situation.
You will enjoy being in any situation that is either generous to you or allows you to create some benefit. You can express practical, down to earth ideas without seeming out of touch. This might be necessary, especially if there is any expectation for you to be putting money into something has been lacking boundaries.
You will be fired up to get things in place so that what follows on has a good foundation to operate from. Your vision won’t be bound but when it comes to others involved you will need to be persistent in leading the way so that matters take to path you want. This is because they can wander off the track quite easily.
There will be more to handle than you initially anticipate so be very careful about committing yourself to things when it seems you have plenty of time available. You need to deal with matters that involve you personally and require your attention and leave any opportunities for social involvement floating until the last minute.
There is a lot of focus on your finances with some aspects having the opportunity to work to your benefit. Any situation where you are owed money could come to a head and you should not hesitate to take appropriate action to state your priorities or to express what you expect. The final conclusion might be slow but it is positive.
You may not know how to take what becomes obvious about somebody else. You need to put your focus on your own position and be very clear and definite, in your own mind, when it comes to any responsibilities you are willing to accept. What will give you pleasure in the long term may need to be taken into account as well.

Tension can arise through somebody else taking a dominant approach, especially if they are of the opinion you should either be more responsible or enter into greater levels of commitment. There could be more to handle on a daily basis than you imagined but for the moment this is not likely to prove troublesome to you.

Anil Kapoor's biggest 'hichki' was smiling in front of the camera Anil said in a statement: "When I began my career, I was told that my eyes are quite small and they looked even smaller when I smiled Actor Anil Kapoor says one of the major hiccups at the start of his career was that he couldn't smile in front of the camera. The makers of Rani Mukerji starrer "Hichki" are promoting the film uniquely by asking prominent personalities to share their u n t o l d weaknesses
Prachi Desai, who will be seen in a dark urban fantasy film titled Kosha, says an actor is always open to experiment with new genres.Asked if she is looking for an image change with Kosha, Prachi said “There is nothing called image change since every script has a different appeal and Kosha is something that struck a chord with me on the script and characterisation level itself. An actor is always open to experimenting with new genres. The actress says an urban dark fantasy is something that she was looking to do.“Every film I believe
and how they eventually converted them into massive strengths. Anil said in a statement: "When I began my career, I was told that my eyes are quite small and they looked even smaller when I smiled. That made me conscious about smiling. I would never smile openly, and I would suppress my natural smile. But then I overcame this 'hichki'. "I began to stop worrying that my eyes would look small, and I worked on my smile. Now, each time I smile, I do so freely, having overcome it."
takes something from you or you end up giving something to it and ‘Kosha’ gave me the opportunity to explore a new side all together with action to colouring my hair purple,” she added.Kosha revolves around a disruptive girl who is a rock band member with a history of “alcohol and substance abuse.” Talking about her role, she said: “Yes, I will be seen playing a singer/rock star and I always was keen to learn an instrument. This film helped me pick up the guitar. It covers a real dark space of a rock star who is going through her own ups and downs in life and the film weaves the journey beautifully.”
An actor is always open to experiment with new genres : Prachi Desai Ranbir Kapoor said no to Band Baaja Baraat: Ranveer
He still cannot believe he is one of the most successful young stars of Bollywood, but one thing which Ranveer Singh is sure about is that his success in the film industry is courtesy his hard work and determination. The 32-year-old actor, who made his debut in Hindi cinema with 2010 film Band

Baaja Baarat, said he took many risks and went through a “routine drill” to get a massive launch by a banner as big as Yash Raj Films. “I ought to be pinching myself sitting in front of people. I wake up everyday thinking that I am living a dream. I was this young kid obsessed with Hindi movies. I struggled for three years in Mumbai, with my portfolio in my hand. I went through the routine drill. I made my own luck. I put myself in that position that where that good wave comes and you can flow with it.” “Ranbir Kapoor said no to Band Baaja Baraat. YRF was looking for a new face I got a call and I knew this was the opportunity I was waiting for. I kept my face safe and didn’t do modeling or music videos. And then I got a massive launch, essentially for an ‘outsider’, opposite a reasonably recognisable star Anushka Sharma,” Ranveer said.
When she left Delhi to pursue a career in the city of dreams, Mumbai -- Bombay back then -- some 17 years ago, Neha Dhupia's father thought she would be back in no time. However, she feels grateful about having a long career, but she wants to do more. Neha made her screen debut in 1994 Malyalam film "Minnaram". She won the Miss India pageant in 2002, and a year later, she ventured into Bollywood with "Qayamat: City Under Threat". On her stint in showbiz, Neha said "I am just happy that I have a career. I remember
My father thought I'd be back from Mumbai in three months : Neha Dhupia: when I was 20 years old and come to Bombay to make a life... My father booked a ticket and he was like 'I assuming you would be back in three months. You want to be an IAS officer'". She said she still has that ticket, adding "I have been here (in Mumbai) for 17 years."The actress, 37, says she is happy that there is relevance around her and that today she is far more self-assured as a
“It is ‘okay’ to be discriminated against if you are an outsider because there are things that one does to know as an outsider newcomer. People are not responsible for you (the newcomer), you have to be persistent, observant to know things. Today I am talking about it because I made it to this level. I learnt,” said Kangana. “I put my observation out there and understand this is how it functions. In the beginning, everyone is treated in the same way; don’t think it is happening to you only. Do not think the world is like this to me, the world is the way it is; it is not fair to anyone. You have got to make sure that you work around it,” she said.Citing an example of her
person. "I am happy with the choices I have made. I am happy that I have choices and that I made a life in a city that I never visited. I am happy that I've not been a 'has been' yet. Am I satisfied? No. I always want to do more. So, that's the difference. Happiness is not defined by box office, net worth or image... Because you are striving to do better every day," she added.
early days, Kangana said, “I did not understand the difference between shot and scenes, so if someone says you have two scenes now, I used to think, my work will get over in 30 minutes.“I did not know about brand building and brand endorsement… when a magazine told me that they want to put me on their cover, I asked them to talk to my manager about money. They banned me for five years but I did not know the difference back then. So yes, coming from non-film background, I was also immature and no one was there to guide. I learnt.”Asked about if she managed to change the viewpoint of filmmaker Karan Johar with her statement, Kangana said
My comment on nepotism worked as a catalyst, says Kangana

BCFED calls for labour law reforms to remove barriers for workers to join unions

The British Columbia government is launching a new, four-part surgical strategy aimed at reducing wait times for the health care British Columbians need. One of the first components of the strategy will see five hip and knee replacement programs implemented throughout the province, Premier John Horgan announced today. “For far too long, far too many British Columbians were left on waitlists instead of getting fast access to the surgery they needed to enjoy full, active, lives, said Premier Horgan. “We’re getting people back on their feet faster by dramatically increasing access to hip and knee surgeries.
Health’s surgeon-in-chief for Vancouver Acute and the head of the orthopedics department. “Streamlining the intake and assessment process for hip and knee replacement surgery reduces wait times for patients, providing them with comprehensive, wrap-around care before and after surgery so they can get back to living their lives in the best way possible. With people spending less time in hospital, we are able to perform more surgeries.
In 2016-17, approximately 14,390 hip and knee surgeries were performed, and by 2018-19, more than 19,250 will be done annually. The additional surgeries will mean a 34% increase in hip and knee surgeries. This will significantly reduce the number of These programs will address the long patients waiting. waits faced by people. let me continue to travel for work and remain active, said Hebb. “I hike two to three times a week with my wife and, last year, I took on the Grouse Grind for the first time since my surgeries. I plan to do it again this summer. In total under the surgical strategy, 9,400 more surgeries – 4,000 additional hip and knee, 900 dental and 4,500 other surgeries – will be done throughout the province by the end of March 2019, compared to the previous year.
