Rick Hansen Secondary Supports Humboldt Last week Rick Hansen Secondary supported Humboldt by holding Jersey day. Grade 10 student, Navneet Basran, came up with the idea to honor those who had fallen in the tragic crash and support the families that had lost their loved ones. Teachers and students wore jersey’s to school to show their love, respect and compassion to the families. The teachers and students that wore jersey’s that day participated in a hockey game in the gymnasium. The idea behind this event was to show the families that had lost loved ones that they weren’t alone and they had the support of the teachers and students of Rick Hansen Secondary. The bleachers were full and the game was very competitive but full of a fun and supportive energy. Rick Hansen Secondary recognizes we are fortunate to be able to play the game of hockey and support each other during these tragic events. We would like to offer our support and care for those families who have lost their loved ones or are suffering with injuries from this horrific accident. Moments like this teach us to slow down, appreciate the loved ones in our lives and enjoy the simpler things in life. We wish a speedy recovery to all those in still the hospital

Oral healthcare for seniors (NC) Today's seniors can expect to keep most, if not all, of their teeth as they age thanks to healthier lifestyles and advances in oral and medical care. But keeping those natural teeth healthy can be a challenge. Restricted mobility, cognitive impairments and medications that cause dry mouth can all contribute to oral problems and complicate treatment. Even more worrisome is the fact that bacteria from the mouth can travel through the body, resulting in serious infections and inflammation that can lead to cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and stroke.

FOR THE RECORD: Too Much Partisanship, Not Enough Decency

ne of the things that I have never enjoyed about politics – provincially or federally – is ‘Question Period.’ I understand its intent, naturally. However, when weighing the intent with the activity it leaves much to be desired.

Admittedly, I’m not sure when it happened but the discussion in Question Period has most certainly shifted over time to what feels like an all-time low. What was once an exercise in asking poignant, hardhitting questions slowly turned in to taking pot-shots. Then, over time, those pot-shots turned in to namecalling. These days, there are often times where the questions seem less about the issues and rather about leveraging Question Period to call-out the character and integrity of other elected officials. As a result of this behaviour – a behaviour that often times can only be characterized as juvenile – I for one have almost completely stopped watching Question Period. In my estimation it has become nothing but a spectacle; though, at least here in British Columbia the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly – the Hon. Dr. Darryl Plecas, MLA – has sought to change the tone of Question Period by establishing new rules. Ironically, the first rule he established was no more name-calling – not something one grown person should have to remind another grown persons’ is inappropriate.

beyond sick and tired of the partisan nonsense and the harsh judgements that often times go hand-in-hand. Yet again, it has very little to do with issues and more to do with political posturing. Certainly, if any institution should be held to a higherstandard it should be government! For The Record… Recently a friend of mine were having drinks and talking politics. He is on the ‘left’ of the ideological spectrum, while I am on the ‘right’ of the ideological spectrum. However, in many respects we both see ourselves as ‘moderates’ who simply want to see evidence-based decisions rooted in public service.

As the conversation progressed he made a comment to me that was hugely frustrating. He said the ‘left’ is suspicious of the ‘right’ whenever they hear the right talk about wanting to try to help people. After reflecting on his comment for a few days, here is where I have landed – I am angry, for two reasons.

As mentioned, this message was sent to me within minutes of me posting my videos. That means this individual did not take the time to actually review my content. Had they, they would have seen that between my credentials, newspaper columns, and testimonials, my commitment to social justice has defined who I am for over a decade. However, because of my party affiliation this person sought to judge me without seemingly any reservation. Why? Because they undoubtedly have drank the partisan Kool-Aid that defines our modern day political discourse, thereby justifying to themselves that they need not do their due-diligence.

In all those instances I was among several dozen other spectators – including elementary and high-schools students who were on a tour. he provincial government welcomed members of the North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) Council to Victoria with an announcement of $3.5 million in support for the 2020 Games bid by the Songhees First Nation. “I’m happy to support the Songhees Nation’s bid to host the 2020 North American Indigenous Games,” said Premier John Horgan. “Sport plays a powerful role in the development of young people. These Games present an opportunity to engage Indigenous youth in sport, and build on British Columbia’s commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation recommendations. We’d be thrilled to host the 2020 Games here.” The government is committing $3.5 million, or 35% of the Games’ budget, in support of the Songhees Nation’s bid. Additionally, the Province will support a cultural program as a lasting legacy. The Songhees Nation has brought together various parties to put forward its bid for the 2020 Games in the territory of the Lekwungen-speaking peoples, in the Greater Victoria area. The NAIG Council is visiting to assess Greater Victoria as a venue for the Games. “I sincerely thank Chief Ron Sam and the Songhees Nation bid committee for their vision and hard work in bringing this bid so far,” said Ravi Kahlon, Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and Multiculturalism. “In British Columbia, we have hosting expertise and enthusiastic volunteers, and I know this will prove a valuable, lasting legacy for NAIG athletes, coaches and our province.” Hosting the Games presents a unique opportunity for British Columbia to support the vision for NAIG 2020 — to improve the quality of life for Indigenous peoples by supporting self-determined sports and cultural activities. The Games also encourage equal access to participation in the social, cultural and spiritual fabric of the

community in which they reside, and respects Indigenous distinctiveness. “The provincial government honours us and all Indigenous peoples throughout British Columbia with their support of our bid to host the North American Indigenous Games in 2020,” said Chief Sam of the Songhees Nation. “Sport has played a significant role in my own life, and through sport, I see confidence and pride developing in my children and in youth throughout Indigenous communities. When one youth rises, others are encouraged to dream, to risk and to try, we all benefit. With the leadership and confidence of the provincial government, the 2020 North American Indigenous Games will serve as an important opportunity to illuminate for others the authentic journey of reconciliation that we are traveling tgether with our partners in this region.” The Games are closely connected to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. Five of the commission’s 94 Calls to Action deal with sports — including Action 88 that calls for continued support for the North American Indigenous Games and long-term athlete development. The 2020 Games mark the North American Indigenous Games’ 30th anniversary, and are expected to be held in July 2020. If the Songhees Nation is chosen as the successful bid by the NAIG Council in May 2018, this will be the third time the Games have been held on Vancouver Island. The Games were held in Victoria in 1997 and in Cowichan in 2008, where the economic impact was estimated to be $34.3 million.

Early detection of oral cancer is key (NC) Most oral cavity cancers can be treated if discovered early. Dental hygienists provide oral cancer screenings at each appointment and will make referrals to specialists if they spot anything unusual. Between appointments, we all have a role to play by watching for any of the following changes in our mouths: • Alterations to the colour or texture of gums, cheeks or tongue• Mouth lumps or sores that do not heal within 14 days • Chronic sore throat or cough • Difficulty swallowing

• Lumps in the neck, including those that aren't bothersome • Mouth or ear pain Tobacco use, alcohol consumption, sun exposure to the lips, and the human papillomavirus are all known risk factors for oral cavity cancers. By modifying our lifestyle, ensuring that our children receive the HPV vaccine, examining our mouths for suspicious changes, and scheduling regular dental hygiene visits, we can reduce our risk of illness. Easy-to-use tools and tips for a quick visual and tactile examination of the oral cavity are available at www.checkyourmouth.org.

Horgan Plunges Canada into Crisis of Confidence: ICBA

Premier John Horgan’s “doubledown” today on his flawed, obstructionist, unfair attack on the dulyapproved Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project is shaking investor confidence and showing the BC NDP Government has no interest in doing what’s right for Canada.

granted under a previous administration sets a very dangerous precedent that will further erode the confidence of investors seeking stability and certainty when looking to invest in BC. “Prime Minister Trudeau’s statement today that Premier Horgan’s attempt to block the pipeline is the direct cause of this impasse is a stunning indictment on the actions of Premier Horgan,” said Gardner. “Premier Horgan is effectively ripping up a contract which Kinder Morgan negotiated in good faith with the federal and provincial governments of the day – that’s not how we must do business in Canada. It’s not right, it’s not fair, and it’s not legal.”

“B.C. has created a crisis of confidence and the implication is that Canada cannot get major projects approved and built,” said ICBA President Chris Gardner. “It is abundantly clear that the responsibility for this crisis we are facing today rests squarely at the feet of Premier John Horgan – he went to Ottawa and ‘doubled down’ on his obstructionist approach to the pipeline, rather Kinder Morgan is prepared to inthan offer solutions to resolve the vest $7.4 billion in our economy impasse.” but Premier Horgan’s actions have ICBA commended the federal gov- forced the federal government to act ernment for convening today’s meet- in a way that means taxpayers could ing between Prime Minister Justin assume risk that a private sector investor was willing to undertake. hile other children were out playing and enjoying the summer sun last year, sisters Maya and Anna Athwal sold blueberries and lemonade to raise funds for ALS BC. They were inspired by their uncle who was living with ALS and decided to support him by fundraising. Through their efforts, Maya and Anna raised $1,710 for ALS BC. Their father, Dave Athwal, said, “The girls wanted to help their uncle and the first idea for fundraising that came to their minds was to have a lemonade stand – just like in the movies. We then added the idea of selling blueberries as well. Maya and Anna were surprised Toyer, the Executive Director of the ALS Society of BC. “Their story has warmed my heart.” The sisters received the Leaders of Tomorrow Award in the 5-13 years old category. “Having access to a safe, stable place to call home is crucial for anyone who is experiencing, or is at risk of, homelessness,” said Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. “Indigenous people are over-represented amongst the homeless population. And homeless women, especially those who are Indigenous, can face tremendous risks. That’s why I’m really pleased to see this project moving ahead.”

“Indigenous women are the strength of their communities, families and culture, but for too long they have also been victims of violence, homelessness and poverty,” said Scott Fraser, Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation. “By providing a safe, secure home and culturally appropriate support services, as we are with these new supportive homes in Victoria, we are sending the signal Once operational, each of the 21 that government and its Indigenous homes will include a bathroom and partners are here to help Indigenous kitchen. We truly believe that if we can find a way to support women in parenting their children and provide children with the opportunity to be raised in their families, we can help eliminate homelessness and violence against Indigenous women.”

Neighbouring residents and businesses will have an opportunity to learn more about the project at an open house. Open house details will be announced in the coming weeks.

Pending municipal approvals, construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2018, and will be complete by March 2019.

The temporary housing will be operational for approximately five years, and will be on the 800 block of Hillside Avenue, as part of the Evergreen Terrace complex. “Indigenous women are more likely than other women in Canada to experience both violence and homelessness,” said Lisa Helps, mayor of the City of Victoria. “This housing at Evergreen Terrace provides the opportunity to interrupt those trends, and bring culturally responsive, safe, and affordable stability to the lives of Indigenous women in Victoria, while building community.” “We are thrilled to be involved in this critically important project that we believe will help address the root causes of homelessness for Indigenous women, which are the loss of children and connection to culture and land,” said Janice Abbott, CEO, Atira Women’s Resource Society. “In addition to providing the immediate safety and security of stable housing, we will work with the Aboriginal CoPAGE 14

“The Aboriginal Coalition currently supports Indigenous women through a program called the Indigenous Women’s Circle, geared towards strengthening Indigenous self-identity, providing life skills and food security and building a sense of family and community. We are very pleased that through the modular housing project, we can now also offer a safe space for the women to call home,” said Fran Hunt-Jinnouchi, executive director, Aboriginal Coalition to End Homelessness. “The women we support face multiple barriers, are often caught up in the chaos of domestic violence, and are at high risk. Culturally supportive housing has the potential to transform lives. I am optimistic and excited about the possibilities.” Once the facility is operational, a 24/7 contact line will be available to answer questions and address neighbourhood concerns. From Balwant Sanghera's Desk: Vaisakhi Celebration at New West School

pril/May are the months of Vaisakhi celebration around the globe. Here in the Metro Vancouver area, Vaisakhi as well as the birth of the Khalsa are some of the major highlights for the Indo-Canadian community. Every year, Vaisakhi and birth of the Khalsa are celebrated in Vancouver and Surrey with great enthusiasm. These celebrations are a great reflection of our community’s growth and generosity.

Punjabi classes at QMS have been celebrating Vaisakhi for the past several years. This year again they did an excellent job in celebrating Vaisakhi in school on Wednesday, April 11. The whole school was buzzing with Vaisakhi related activities. It was great to see the students greet guests with “Happy Vaisakhi” at the main entrance to the school.

The Punjabi class students did a marvelous job in explaining the sigIn addition to these two major cel- nificance of Vaisakhi and birth of the Khalsa. They also put on impressive cultural performances before the students, teachers and invited guests. It is always an honour for this writer to be invited to this celebration. This year again the oc-

ebrations, Vaisakhi is also celebrated around the Metro Vancouver area by various Gurdwaras, organizations and schools. Take for example the Queeensborough Middle School (QMS) in New Westminster. As a result of efforts by the Punjabi Language Education Association (PLEA) Punjabi classes have been under way at QMS for many years. Under the capable leadership of their veteran Punjabi teacher, Mr. Deep Singh Sangra, the students of the PAGE 18

casion was graced by a number of prominent members of the community including Dr. Gurnam Singh Sanghera, Rajinder Singh Pandher, Harbhajan Singh Athwal (President of Khalsa Diwan Society, New West) and a large number of parents. Parents and the local Sikh community provided mouthwatering IndoCanadian refreshments-samosas and sweets- to the invited guests, students and teachers. They also raised $480 to help needy students at the school.

In order to honour the First Nations, the celebration was opened with a prayer and blessings by Mrs. Swanson. MCs Eshnoor and Yasmine did a great job in keeping things flowing smoothly. Jaiden and Mehr took good care of the music. Gurnoor’s tabla performance was excellent. Vaisakhi presentation by Harj, Jovan, Sartaj, Indervir and Harman was quite impressive. So was speech about Vaisakhi by Mansimran. Gunjot, Khushpreet, Harveen, Kajal, Avneet and Jasleen entertained the audience with their Bhangra performancePatake. They were followed by Peepa Bhangra performance by Harveen, Jasleen, and Zeenat. Neha and Priya recited very lovely poems about Vaisakhi. Gidda performance by Gurveen, Aeshpari, Zeenat, Jasleen, Harveen and Avneet reminded one about Punjab and its very rich folk songs and culture .All in all, the

students did an excellent job in emphasizing the importance of Vaisakhi and birthday of the Khalsa. On their part, the parents did a great job in helping with the refreshments and other related activities. The students and teachers enjoyed delicious samosa and sweets donated by and served by parents. On behalf of Punjabi Language Education Association (PLEA) I would like to congratulate them all for a wonderful celebration. It is a commendable way of creating more pride amongst students about their cultural heritage in the Canadian context. Programs, activities and gestures like these go a long way in creating a positive image of our community and enhancing opportunities for cross-cultural understanding. The organizers, QMS and the New Westminster School District must be commended for promoting Punjabi and celebrations like this.

Government of Canada brings medical inadmissibility policy in line with inclusivity for persons with disabilities

O

ne of the Government of Canada’s priorities is to ensure greater accessibility and opportunities for Canadians with disabilities. Today’s announcement by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Ahmed Hussen of changes to the medical inadmissibility provision of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act ensures that our immigration policies better align with Canadian values and reflect the importance that the Government places on the inclusion of persons with disabilities.

and social services costs. It is expected that this would dispense with a majority of the medical inadmissibility cases seen in Canada today.

The new policy on medical inadmissibility strikes a balance between protecting publicly funded health and social services and updating the policy to bring it in line with current views on the inclusion of persons with disabilities. The changes include:

Amending the definition of social services will bring the policy in line with Canadian values on supporting the participation of persons with disabilities in society, while continuing to protect publicly funded health and social services. This would also benefit applicants with intellectual disabilities, applicants with hearing or visual impairments, and others.

The Government has been reviewing all elements of the medical inadmissibility provisions since 2016. This included meetings with provincial and territorial governments, and discussions with stakeholders. In addition, the issue was studied by the Standing Committee on Citizenship

An untold Canadian environmental success story (NC) New crop technologies, modern farm equipment and better farming practices have made a world of difference in long-term soil health. It’s an untold Canadian success story that bodes well for the future of the environment and global food security.

Province to eliminate barriers for first responders to access compensation for mental trauma

F

irst responders, sheriffs and correctional officers will have greater access to services and compensation for mental disorders, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) that can arise from traumatic workplace incidents, as a result of legislative amendments announced by Labour Minister Harry Bains. The proposed amendments to the Workers Compensation Act will be introduced in the house today. If approved by the legislature, these amendments will add PTSD and other mental disorders to the list of conditions that are recognized as being presumptive conditions associated with specific types of jobs. The list includes conditions that are presumed to have been caused by the nature of the work, rather than having to be proven to be job related.

munities every day,” said Bains. The new mental-disorder presumption will apply to firefighters, police officers, paramedics, sheriffs and correctional officers. Additionally, the amendments will extend the existing cancer presumptions for municipal firefighters to include federal firefighters on military bases. It recognizes that firefighters from military bases may be exposed to dangerous substances, and frequently assist municipalities at off-base incidents.

The legislative changes are a first step toward providing more support to workers who are first on the scene at challenging, and sometimes dangerous and traumatic, situations. Government will consider over time expanding presumptions to other types of workers who experience traumatic events at “We are so grateful for the heroic work work, as well as continuing to focus on that first responders do in our com- overall workplace safety.

Something can begin to stir in your mind about action, which would be best taken when it comes to future goals. You could begin to gain a clearer picture of the commitments you would need to be prepared to make. There can be a tendency to overlook the amount of finer detail involved but you will find out soon enough.

Activities with others but particularly within a group of people can be most enjoyable. It could turn into something bigger than you initially expect. Be cautious about anything you are pressed to agree with or any person who is very strong about their ideas as it will be difficult to gauge exactly what they are looking for.

You can feel challenged with what might seem never ending matters to deal with on a daily basis and that there is no conclusion in sight. Rather than worry too much about this you should take an optimistic view on it working out satisfactorily. You do have support from people who have authority, so it will all work out eventually.

Anything you are uncertain about when it comes to the expectations of others, you should simply ask questions. If they don’t want to tell you it will be made very clear but this may not necessarily be the way things go. Anything practical that needs to be dealt with or impacts upon things on a daily basis can be sorted quite easily.

The Full Moon this week occurs in your sign. This can generate much self- awareness when it comes to your own position and that of others. You could feel overwhelmed by others right now but much is up to the way you decide to respond. You can be strong-minded about the manner in which you want to establish matters

It is important you get the right information that will enable you to get on top of any situation that makes you feel like a slave to circumstance. This is challenging you to put a structure in place that will be enduring but also something that you can have greater control over. If money is involved it is possible to improve the situation.

You will enjoy being in any situation that is either generous to you or allows you to create some benefit. You can express practical, down to earth ideas without seeming out of touch. This might be necessary, especially if there is any expectation for you to be putting money into something has been lacking boundaries.

You will be fired up to get things in place so that what follows on has a good foundation to operate from. Your vision won’t be bound but when it comes to others involved you will need to be persistent in leading the way so that matters take to path you want. This is because they can wander off the track quite easily.

There will be more to handle than you initially anticipate so be very careful about committing yourself to things when it seems you have plenty of time available. You need to deal with matters that involve you personally and require your attention and leave any opportunities for social involvement floating until the last minute.

There is a lot of focus on your finances with some aspects having the opportunity to work to your benefit. Any situation where you are owed money could come to a head and you should not hesitate to take appropriate action to state your priorities or to express what you expect. The final conclusion might be slow but it is positive.

You may not know how to take what becomes obvious about somebody else. You need to put your focus on your own position and be very clear and definite, in your own mind, when it comes to any responsibilities you are willing to accept. What will give you pleasure in the long term may need to be taken into account as well.

Tension can arise through somebody else taking a dominant approach, especially if they are of the opinion you should either be more responsible or enter into greater levels of commitment. There could be more to handle on a daily basis than you imagined but for the moment this is not likely to prove troublesome to you.

Perfect your perennial garden this spring (NC) Repairing your garden after an extreme winter can take some time and effort. But consistency is key to keeping your blooms fresh and full year after year. Mark Beaty, live goods merchant at The Home Depot Canada, shares tips on how to prepare your garden and help your perennials thrive. Preliminary cleanup. Fluctuating temperatures, frost and salt can all damage your garden throughout the winter, so you want to act quickly to help your plants recover. Once the ground has thawed, clean up any fallen braches, twigs and debris from flowerbeds. Remove any frostburned leaves and, on a warmer day, soak the soil in your garden with a hose or sprinkler to help flush the salt and any lasting winter residue.

for shaded gardens), lavender, daylilies (great for attracting hummingbirds and butterflies), dianthus, iris and phlox (with a beautiful fresh fragrance). Maintaining your perennials. In the first few weeks, newly planted perennials require daily watering to thrive. Keep soil moist to one inch below the surface by watering every day before 10 a.m. or after 6 p.m. throughout the summer. Prune older, dried flowers to encourage new growth, and at the end of the season, cut your perennials back to 6 to 12” above the soil level. This will help encourage growth the following season.

Picking your plants. Perennials can be planted as soon as the ground is workable. How to stay healthy as a student (NC) Students these days have a lot to juggle. Between coursework, clubs, work, friends and family, many can hardly find time to take care of themselves. If you are worried about your student falling into unhealthy lifestyle habits, pass along these helpful tips. Go to the gym. After a long day of class, working out is probably the last thing on anyone's mind. But exercise is proven to lower stress as well as improve sleep and focus. Plus, the gym is a perfect place to catch up on any music or TV that has been missed, because even students deserve a break. Eat a healthy diet. Microwave meals are great for a night of cramming, but not for an everyday routine. Students with extra busy schedules will benefit from planning out their meals and cooking in large batches. This saves time in the kitchen, which gives students more time to do things they really care about.

Get a mentor. Being a student can be stressful and isolating. Having someone older to talk to who has been through the process can be a huge relief. Education experts at Beautiful World Canada know just how helpful mentorship can be, which is why they provide all their students in subSaharan Africa with a mentor to help them through school. Legislation introduced to strengthen family maintenance enforcement Government has introduced two legislative amendments that, if passed, will strengthen maintenance enforcement orders and ensure that children and families have the supports they are entitled to through the Family Maintenance Enforcement Program (FMEP).

agreement related to child or spousal support in the Land Titles Registry, with a simplified requirement to submit pertinent information only. This change will streamline processes and help prevent the unnecessary public disclosure of sensitive information.

The first amendment will allow ICBC to cancel the driver’s licence of a person with substantial arrears, creating the possibility of immediate consequences for non-payment. Currently, FMEP can instruct ICBC to refuse to issue or renew a driver’s licence only at the time of renewal. This change will improve the effectiveness of child and spousal support enforcement by taking immediate action against those with more than $3,000 in arrears, encouraging negotiation to resolve payment arrangements.

Federal and provincial laws already give FMEP the authority to take a number of actions against persons with substantial arrears, including passportapplication denial and intercepting funds owing to the person, such as tax refunds and employment insurance benefits. Each case is evaluated individually, and action taken depends on the person’s history, how much money the person owes, and other aspects of the person’s current situation. Enforcement actions are chosen based on the best chance of success.

The second amendment, if approved by The changes are expected to take efthe legislature, will replace a require- fect within 60 to 90 days, should the ment to file the entirety of an order or legislation pass.

Responding to a question on how does he go beyond his “good looks” as an actor, Sidharth said, “I think people love to see good faces on screen. Kangana expressed her thought on social media when she became part of TV show “Vh1 Inside Access”, a statement said. “I am not on social media for many reasons and one of them is that I feel it’s so consuming. People tell me open an account because there can be brand queries and they want you on social media. Internationally acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, jury chairperson of the 65th National Film Awards, says the tag of "regional cinema" must not be

Simmba title track finished, says Rohit Shetty While Rohit Shetty is still waiting for Ranveer Singh to start shooting Simmba, the filmmaker claims that the music is almost complete. "Karan [Johar, co-producer] is especially looking into the music of the film. We are excited about the songs and have managed to finish the title track," says Shetty, who is currently focussing on the animated version of Singham titled Little Singham on Discovery Kids. Actor Sonu Sood has also come on board for the film. He says the "challenging" role will make him do a lot of homework. The announcement about Sonu's entry into the Simmba cast comes after R. Madhavan made it clear that he can't be a part of the movie due to his shoulder injury. Sonu will join Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan in the movie. There was immense curiosity after the release of the first poster which featured Ranveer Singh, who would be cast as the film's female lead. In mid March, Sara Ali Khan was finally cast opposite Ranveer after much speculation. Rohit Shetty is known for his out-and-out masala entertainers topped with all elements associated with a Bollywood potboiler. Simmba, presented by Reliance Entertainment, also marks the debut collaboration of Shetty and Karan Johar. It will release on December 28.

attached to Indian movies in languages other than Hindi. Kapur, who last made "Bandit Queen" in India, is stunned by the quality and range of subjects that some of the movies in Assamese, Malayalam, Bengali and Marathi movies touched upon. "What an eye opener it has been chairing the National Film Awards 2018. The quality of regional cinema has left us stunned. It's world class and it's time to take away the tag of regional cinema. For Hindi cinema no longer can compete with the quality we saw from other languages,". The filmmaker said nonBollywood movies deserve the spotlight. "Unfortunately mainstream media and Bollywood enjoy a highly incestuous relationship. So the brilliance of the new regional cinema remains hidden from audiences. It's time for that to change," he added.
