Province strengthens mental health Early childhood education crisis lines expansion helps kids get the best The Province is enhancing supports start in order to provide even better crisis line services for British Columbians.

Planned enhancements to crisis line services include additional responders to increase crisis line capacity to answer calls, improved recruitment and retention strategies, upgraded, improved technology and standardized training for call responders. The Province has directed the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA) to oversee crisis line services, and contract directly with all crisis line providers through the Crisis Line Enhancement Project. “Unprecedented emergencies like the floods, the poisoned drug crisis and COVID-19 pandemic means crisis lines are busier than ever,” said Sheila Malcolmson, Minister of Mental Health and Addictions. “I am grateful for the dedication and tireless work of crisis line workers. digenous community-based delivery, infant and toddler, and special needs. The programs are delivered in person and online to improve access for students living in remote and rural areas of B.C.

“Every parent wants to give their child the best start in life, and early childhood educators play a big role in that by helping kids develop their critical thinking, communication and social skills. Providing more opportunities to train early childhood educators empowers people who are passionate about caring for our children,” said Anne Kang, Minister

“For too long, rising child care costs and lack of availability have been barriers for parents and caregivers, and particularly for young, working families,” said Katrina Chen, Minister of State for Child Care. “We’re building a future where child care is a core service that’s available to any family that wants it. Expanding the number of training spaces for early

The new ECE seats include full- and part-time studies and online learning, as well as speciality programs in In-

In addition to the ECE seat expansion, the Province is providing funding to support Capilano University’s new Centre for Childhood Studies. The centre will have classrooms and study spaces that will benefit ECE students. Through Childcare BC, the Province is bringing affordable, quality, inclusive child care to families throughout the province. Since 2018, tens of thousands of families have benefited from better access to more affordable child care.

COVID-19 & THE IMPACT ON CRIME IN VANCOUVER: SFU EXPERT AVAILABLE Violent crime in Vancouver rose in the city’s poorer regions during the first year of the pandemic while wealthier neighbourhoods saw thefts rise, a new study co-led by Simon Fraser University researchers confirms. Their study of the city’s crime patterns during the pandemic’s first year suggests that in poorer regions, a greater focus on social assistance, rather than increased policing, is a critical during trying times like pandemics. “During the pandemic we found that overall, crime tends to increase more in marginalized areas within the city,” says study lead Martin Andresen, a professor in SFU’s School of Criminology.

Methods and data: The study tracks 10 types of crime across Vancouver’s 22 neighbourhoods. They also used census data from Statistics Canada to study how socioeconomic factors including income, education level, average rent or property value impacted the number of crimes committed in a particular neighbourhood.

“Based on the high response rate and thoughtful feedback, it is clear people are invested in the health of our trades training system,” said Anne Kang, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Training. “We heard from trades workers, businesses and industries on what they think will make the transition to skilled trades certification successful and to better support them.” The feedback reflected in the What We Heard reports will inform the supports and services related to implementing skilled trades certification for the 10 initial mechanical, electrical and automotive trades in British Columbia. Key themes that emerged through the consultations include improving supports and services available, more flexible learning options, increasing and celebrating diversity in the workforce, promoting trades careers to youth early, and raising awareness of existing supports and services available. Tradespeople and employers were asked to provide input about key aspects of implementing skilled trades certification, including how to help current workers become certified or enter an apprenticeship training program. It also identified supports for employers during economic recovery.

There were also seven Indigenous dialogue sessions (54 individual participants) to understand the potential impacts on Indigenous Peoples in B.C. The 868 provincial survey participants represented workers (47%), businesses (29%) and industry organizations (12%). It is really a matter of feeling great that multifarious community activist and committed realtor of Planet Realty Group for 13 years Dr. Gurvinder Singh Dhaliwal has been given the Great honor and Award by the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board with the #1 in Sold Units/ HIGHEST SELLING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD-2021 & #1 in Top Dollar Volume / HIGHEST DOLLAR VOLUME AWARD 2021 It is quite admirable that Dr Gurvinder Singh not only secured this achievement from the local areas of Abbotsford, Surrey, or Greater Vancouver, rather he earned this 1st position from the far-off places of the entire area of the Fraser Valley Real

When dealing with snow, rain, ice, or fog, it may be safer to drive at less than the posted speed limit. Slowing down gives you time to react to road conditions and other drivers.

winter tires could have helped, not regularly check them throughout having them may impact whether or the winter as low temperatures can how much you are at fault. Whatever reduce tire pressure. type of tires you have, you should 3. Plan ahead: Before heading out, check current road and weather conditions on drivebc.ca. Plan out the safest route and give yourself more than enough time to get where you are going. If a winter storm is in the forecast, avoid driving if possible. You can’t get into a crash if you aren’t out on the roads. 4. Reduce speed: Posted speed limits are meant for ideal conditions.

5. Leave space. Speed is a major factor in winter accidents, but so is proximity to other vehicles. The closer you are to other drivers, the less time you have to react if your vehicle skids or you lose control. When you leave extra room and increase following distance, you give yourself time to react if another driver suddenly brakes, loses control, or does something unexpected. Use extra caution around highway maintenance vehicles such as snowplows, salt/ sand trucks. Maintenance vehicles often throw up snow and debris that reduces visibility. Leave as much room as possible.

PAGE 17 Remember, even if you follow these tips, you may still be vulnerable to having a motor vehicle accident due to the presence of black ice. Black ice commonly forms on concrete after freezing rain or snow, which impacts stopping distance and vehicle handling. Black ice is very difficult to see on the road, so in addition to understanding how to drive on it, try to be aware of the traffic surrounding you to spot it in advance. Get Advice from Trusted Personal Injury Lawyers If you have been hurt in a winter road accident, get legal advice from Simpson, Thomas & Associates. You can call our office at 604-229-9551 or fill out or online form on www. simpsonthomas.com to request a free initial legal consultation with one of our experienced personal injury lawyers.

It's a big deal to block festival dates for releases : Tiger Shroff Get ready to witness Tiger Shroff in action avatar this year, and that too in two different films -'Heropanti 2' and 'Ganapath'. Interestingly, both films will be released around festivals. "2022 is a very important and special year for me as both my films 'Heropanti 2' and 'Ganapath' will be releasing on festivals, Eid and Christmas respectively. It's a big deal to block the festival dates for release, especially those that have only been taken by stalwarts of our industry so far and I'm grateful to my producers for showing their trust

and faith in me. All I can do in return is continue working hard and bring the best I can on the table for my ever so kind and loving audience," Tiger said. Directed by Ahmed Khan, 'Heropanti 2' will be released on April 29, 2022. The film is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under the production house Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Tara Sutaria are also a part of the film. Whereas, Vikas Bahl's 'Ganapath' will release on December 23, 2022. The film is produced by Vikas Bahl, Jackky Bhagnani, Vashu Bhagnani, and Deepshikha Deshmukh under the banners of Good Co. Production and Pooja Entertainment. The film also has Kriti Sanon in the lead role.

Protecting the planet is a cause that is close to my heart : Rupali Suri

Rupali Suri, who was t h e 2nd Runner-up at the Miss Tourism International pageant, has been instrumental in planting trees to replace those destroyed by Cyclone Tauktae, which struck the Indian coast of Kerala, Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra last year. The actress, who is the Green Ambassador of the Make Earth Green Again (MEGA) Foundation, says, “Protecting the planet is a cause that is close to my heart. So, when I was approached to be the Green Ambassador by Make Earth Green Again (MEGA) Foundation, I gladly agreed.” Joining many celebs and changemakers, Rupali, who has been a part of several tree plantation drives in Mumbai, wants the youth to embrace such opportunities to fight climate change and preserve the ecosystem

for future generations. Hoping to inspire others to d o their bit, Rupali is vocal about issues like the importance of conservation of the ecosystem, eradicating single-use plastic goods from our lives, tree plantation, as well as speaking up against body-shaming and supporting women empowerment. She often highlights the importance of clean air and the effects of climate change. On the work front, she recently bagged an exciting project that features veteran actor Vikram Gokhale. Rupali is excited about her role in the movie, and believes that each step in the industry is a learning opportunity. The actress, who has been a part of the film Dad – Hold My Hand with Ratna Pathak Shah, which was shot entirely in London, is also in talks for several interesting projects that are likely to be announced soon.

Dance is how Tamannaah Bhatia expresses herself

Tamannaah Bhatia, who has been garnering a lot of positive responses for her performance in the justreleased special dance number ‘Kodthe’ from the Telugu sports drama ‘Ghani’, has said that more than art, dancing is a form of expression for her. While sharing her excitement, the actress said: “For me, dancing is more than an art. It is a form of expression. I enjoyed the entire process of shooting Kodthe for Ghani because it has an upbeat and unique vibe to it. It gives a great commentary on the film.” Summing up her experience of working on the track, she said: “I had an incredible time bringing the vision of choreographers Piyush and Shazia alive on screen. I am sure the dance number will compel the audience to groove.” ‘Ghani’ is a boxing drama written and directed by Kiran Korrapati and produced by Renaissance Pictures and Allu Bobby Company. The film also stars Varun Tej as the titular character alongside Saiee Manjrekar, Jagapathi Babu, Upendra, Suniel Shetty and Naveen Chandra. Tamannaah will also collaborate with Varun Tej for ‘F3’. In addition, the actress also has ‘Plan A Plan B’ and ‘Yaar Dost’ in Bollywood.

I plan to work at a relaxed pace in 2022 : Taapsee Pannu Between 2020 and 2021, despite the lockdowns and life slowing down overall, Taapsee Pannu did not lose pace. The actress went hopping from one film set to another, which explains how she had multiple releases last year, and has a laundry list for this year, too, with films like Do Baraah, Shabaash Mithu, Blurr and Woh Ladki Hai Kahan. Bring this up and Taapsee says, “I brought in the new year very happily because 2021 was over. Last year was a big battle in many ways and I survived it. It was a mentally and physically challenging year and I escaped unhurt. This year should be relatively easier for me, at least easier than what the last few years have been. I have planned 2022 in a way that I work at a relaxed pace. I have things spaced out in such a way that I won’t be running from one film to another. Of course, the pandemic looks far from over. If another lockdown happens and things are forcibly moved around, it will crunch the spaces I have created for myself between my projects. And that’s a different story altogether.” While Taapsee continues to take

on assignments for the year, she is also actively planning her next set of productions. She says, “I hadn’t really planned to enter film production with a movie featuring me as the central character. It happened, but the next few films in the offing won’t feature me; I’m not playing the central character in my next productions. That is really the idea of becoming a producer, where I back a story that has my conviction and an actor who fits the part. I don’t want to be the leading lady of every film that I produce.”

Delighted when they say they don’t have dates : Richa Chadha

Weeks after the release of Inside Edge 3, Richa Chadha is looking forward to her next digital outing, Six Suspects. Director Tigmanshu Dhulia has taken on the responsibility of adapting Vikas Swarup’s bestseller of the same name, which revolves around the murder of a politician’s son, for the screen. “I loved playing the protagonist who is an investigating officer. The show has a great ensemble, but the most interesting part was playing the ethical and straightforward character. Collaborating with Tigmanshu was exciting because of his clarity of vision,” says Chadha, who joins Pratik Gandhi, Raghubir Yadav, Ashutosh Rana, Shashank Arora and Jatin Goswami on the project. Even as films remain her

focus, the actor, over the past few years, has been part of several engaging web projects — be it Inside Edge that looks at the dark side of cricket, or One Mic Stand that had her dabbling in stand-up comedy. That the OTT revolution has enabled her to give in to her experimental streak isn’t lost on her. Chadha credits the OTT boom for giving a new lease of life to talented actors who didn’t get a fair shot at stardom in the box-office-obsessed Bollywood. “The exponential growth of OTT has added years to the lives of many accomplished actors like Pratik Gandhi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Shefali Shah and Priyanka Bose. I feel delighted when they say, in their interviews

10 years of giving through the Prospera Youth Angel Tree Project Prospera Credit Union celebrated the 2021 holidays by collecting gifts for youths in need through their 10th annual Youth Angel Tree Project. The program began in 2011 after Prospera met with Archway Community Services staff and realized that there was an unmet need in providing Christmas gifts specifically for youth in their communities. At Prospera’s two Abbotsford branches, almost 70 tags for youth were hung on trees for members of the community to take. Small and achievable goals to help manage diabetes (NC) Positive health routines are important for everyone but especially for people with diabetes. Lifestyle habits like brisk walking and healthy eating can have a positive effect on diabetes management. Set small achievable goals this year by follow these simple tips to help manage your diabetes and stay healthy this winter and into the spring. 1. Get outside during light hours. You can’t underestimate the power of sunlight. A walk helps you meet your exercise goals and is a key component to managing diabetes. It can also improve your mood. Get outside daily for a brisk 15-minute walk to get your heart rate up and help ward off seasonal blues.

Reduce harmful alcohol consumption Drinking alcohol is a personal choice. But drinking too much alcohol can be harmful, and is associated with a higher risk of developing dementia. There are Canadian guidelines for recommended consumption limits. They suggest no more than two standard drinks per day, to a maximum of

3 characteristics of a good partner (NC) Finding a compatible partner in the dating world can take a lot of time and soul searching, but a few characteristics are beneficial for just about everyone. Dependable Relationships are about enjoyment, but they also serve the more functional role of allowing partners to combine forces to take on challenges together. This means being available and willing to step up when things become challenging during any of life’s important moments. With a dependable partner who’s there when you need them, you’re ready to take on anything. Open Communication is a major factor in the success of any relationship, and it’s often what makes us compatible or incompatible. Psychologically speaking, this kind of openness plays an important role in allowing couples

to manage stress, overcome problems and even provide positive feedback when things are going well. Appreciative Simple acts of appreciation and gratitude have been correlated to positive emotions and even physical health, so it’s no wonder many of us want appreciative partners. Expressions of gratitude and kind words are not only validating, but they contribute to our energy and motivation to work as a team. Surprisingly or not, these qualities we look for in a life partner are also some of the same that we want from our service providers too. For instance, when it comes to your cellphone, you need a dependable 4G network, all the openness of unlimited talk and text, appreciation with points back on top-ups and no demanding long-term commitments. sociated with dementia, like mid-life obesity, smoking, harmful alcohol consumption and social isolation. Here are a few brain-healthy tips to think about:

It is also recommended to have noalcohol days. You can replace alcoholic beverages with sparkling water with a splash of natural fruit juices; try a cucumber-lime combination, or add mint or basil to jazz it up.

Be active and eat well

Socialize

You can’t see the impact of exercise on your brain the way you can see it with your body. However, blood pumps through the brain when you exercise, and that can help keep your brain cells healthy. Go for a brisk walk, or dance in your living room to get your heart rate going. Fuelling your body and brain with a well-balanced diet will also keep you going strong.

Connecting with others, even virtually, is an important way to keep yourself engaged in the world around you. Not only is social activity an essential part of our mental health and well-being, but it can also help reduce the risk of developing dementia as well as associated conditions like depression. Taking action to put future plans in motion could meet with some unexpected twists and turns involving other people. They might think you are moving too quickly or haven’t dealt with the details thoroughly enough. What they prefer could be more cautious or conservative. This might require you to reassess your priorities.

Whatever decisions you plan during January need to be viewed as an initial stage, so it would be wise not to attempt implementing them quickly, especially if somebody else is pushing for this. It will not be until mid February to mid March that you will be in a position of clarity and probably because of what goes on before that time.

Something needs to be brought to an end and while that should not be difficult to manage, wanting to do it could be the stumbling block. Clear vision of what the future will mean is difficult but there is an ending, new beginning energy involved. This could also require you to re-evaluate commitments up to early February.

There is a lack of clarity when it comes to others. It would be best that you observe their actions – it could tell you a lot more than what they have to say. Don’t rush into taking on any obligations, especially if you feel sorry for anybody or presume it will help. You need to wait and be asked and then carefully consider your answer.

Other people will prove interesting up to March. This could include coming into contact with people from the past from mid January to early February. They could seem very open with what they have to say or perhaps promise but you could find it will change, mystifying you. It will be from mid February onward it will make sense.

Don’t be too reliant on others when it comes to putting things in place – you will get a lot more done through getting on with these tasks yourself. You could begin to realise during January that daily routines need to be streamlined for complete success with changed structures. Complete clarity will arise from mid February.

This is a good time to present your ideas to somebody else – they could be keener to pay attention to them, even implement them than you anticipate. It won’t hurt to leave more regular routines to one side for the moment. You will enjoy having a break during January and perhaps visiting somewhere that has pleased you before.

Impulsive spending on something that could be useful in daily life can be worthwhile but on anything indulgent is a different matter. Family matters that haven’t been sorted in the past could come up again in January. You should take this seriously and give them thought. Final solutions can be established from mid February.

Social opportunities can come thick and fast this week. More practical things could curb being able to take advantage of them all though, so be sensible, otherwise, you could get over tired. From now to early February, put your mind to any details that need to be cleared up or plans that need to be put in place for this coming year.

Don’t be surprised to find yourself changing your mind or in a situation where you need to, from now to early February. This will concern something personal to you. Don’t expect to gain complete clarity yet – further contemplation could be required up to mid February. Then you can move ahead with certainty through to 10th March.

You will want things in order and could initially feel it is so. However, it would be best to make allowance for unexpected events or circumstances that could come out of nowhere and generate many distractions for you. Financial matters could need closer attention – there might be something you have forgotten to pay or allow for.

Hold yourself back from a serious commitment just because it feels right or seems to be what you have dreamed about. Don’t risk anything financially. There is something you need to contemplate to early February that could lead to re-looking at important priorities in life. You can make clearer decisions from 10th March.
