Budget 2022 provides new funding to address homelessness in B.C. British Columbians experiencing or atrisk of homelessness will benefit from expanded services, supports, and more timely access to care, thanks to new investments in Budget 2022. “Today, there are thousands of people who have a home and the supports they need because of our government’s investments in supportive housing. But homelessness continues to grow and there’s much more work to do - even as we continue to try to catch up from the years of the old government not building enough adequate housing,” said David Eby, Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Housing. “Budget 2022 makes significant new investments to address the root causes of homelessness to prevent people from losing their homes in the first place, and get people into stable and permanent housing.” Homelessness is a significant issue affecting people and communities throughout B.C. In response, the Government of B.C. is investing $633 million in new initiatives aimed at helping prevent and reduce chronic homelessness in the province.
Investments include:

towards a comprehensive strategy, with more needed to address the root causes of homelessness,” said Stephen D’Souza, executive director, Homelessness Services Association of BC. “The recent point-in-time count identified that 38% of those experiencing homelessness in B.C. are unsheltered, either living outside, couch-surfing or in a vehicle. This cross-government approach can be transformative, moving B.C. in the direction of realizing the right to housing and ensuring people have access to the necessary supports to stay housed.”
These investments are part of government’s broader provincial homelessness strategy, which will be released in 2022.

As the COVID-19 vaccine is used more widely in children in many countries, new and reassuring information about its safety is becoming available. Canada’s stringent safety monitoring system will also continue to monitor for side effects as the vaccines is used. 5. Potential impact on pregnancy and fertility
As for getting vaccinated while pregnant, no pregnancy-related safety concerns have been identified in pregnant people who received an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. It is very important for pregnant people to be vaccinated to help prevent serious illness for themselves and to help prevent complications in the pregnancy. Additionally, vaccination during pregnancy may provide some additional protection to newborns by passing protective antibodies through the placenta. These antibodies may protect the baby after birth.
Individuals who may be thinking about having children are worried about vaccines affecting their ability to get pregnant now or down the road. Doctors and scientists have been researching this as well and to date have found that people who are vaccinated as well as those who are unvaccinated conceive Find more fact-based information at at the same rate. canada.ca/covid-vaccine

Autism research moves forward thanks to Canadian Institutes of Health Research grant
We can launch humans into space and explore new galaxies but the brain remains one of the most complex frontiers in the universe. Dr. Teresa Cheung, a clinical neuroimaging scientist with Fraser Health and Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at Simon Fraser University, is hoping to explore more of the circuit function of the brain, specifically the differences seen in autism, a developmental disability. Dr. Cheung and Dr. John Welsh, a neuroscientist at the Center for Integrative Brain Research at Seattle Children’s Research Institute and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Washington, are the recipients of a nearly $1 million Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) grant that could set the stage for new therapies to help children with autism. Their research project, “Cerebro-cerebellar Dynamics in Human Brain Health,” is a collaboration between Fraser Health, Simon Fraser University, Seattle Children’s and the University of Washington in Seattle. “This is a strong commitment to study autism in a unique way that is not replicated anywhere in the world,” says Dr. Cheung. “There has been little study of human brain circuit function because the methodologies and technology haven’t been widely available.”

MEG measures magnetic fields generated by the electrical activity of the brain at the highest spatial, depth and time resolution. Measurements can be made in milliseconds. ImageTech Lab contains one of the few MEG systems at major health or research centres in Canada and is the only system of its kind co-located with MRI in the Pacific Northwest. “Dr. Cheung, Dr. Welsh and other top health innovators are advancing treatments to help children with autism,” says Angela Brooks-Wilson, Simon Fraser University’s Associate VicePresident, Research pro tem. “This collaborative project demonstrates the power of partnerships and the importance of sophisticated facilities like SFU’s ImageTech Lab, where researchers can use both MEG and MRI to catalyze advances in brain health research. I am very pleased that CIHR is supporting this important work.”
“We now have tools with the sensitivity to record activity deep in the brain at the speed that the brain actually operates – more than a hundred times every second,” says Dr. Welsh. “This is what has been sorely needed and “This work is instrumental for finding novel ways to predict the progression opens up a new frontier.” of autism, which has important cliniThe four-year study expands on cal implications. Minister’s statement on COVID-19 supports for B.C. businesses Ravi Kahlon, Minister of Jobs, Economic Recovery and Innovation, has released the following statement on supports for people, B.C. businesses and communities throughout the COVID-19 pandemic: “As we take the next step in putting the pandemic behind us, our government wants to thank all of the B.C. businesses that helped get us here. Your incredible determination, hard work and adaptability are why B.C. continues to lead the country in economic recovery. “Our focus has always been on putting people first. The pandemic exposed deep, long-standing vulnerabilities in our society and reinforced our commitment to making life better for everyone. During the peak of the pandemic, we provided the highest per-capita supports for people and businesses in Canada. “In total, the Province has now exceeded the initial commitment to provide more than $1.5 billion to help people, businesses and communities impacted by the pandemic with our economic recovery plan. “This includes more than $530 million that went into the pockets of local business owners to help them navigate the challenges of operating in the pandemic and to continue to safely support the people in their communities. Through the Small- and Medium-Sized Business Recovery, Circuit Breaker Business Relief and COVID-19 Closure Relief grant programs, the Province provided:
$53 million in the Thompson-Okanagan to help approximately 3,400 businesses; more than $17 million in the Kootenay to help nearly 1,100 businesses; more than $11 million in the Cariboo to help more than 730 businesses; more than $4.5 million on the North Coast to help approximately 285 businesses;

close to $4.2 million in the Northeast to help more than 260 businesses; and close to $2.7 million in the Nechako to help more than 160 businesses. “In addition to direct supports to businesses, the Province helped small business owners pivot through the Launch Online Grant Program. This $42-million program allowed small and medium-sized businesses throughout the province to build or strengthen their digital commerce capabilities to sell made-in-B.C. products online. Other investments by the Province throughout the pandemic included: $4.5 million to cover the tuition costs for close to 6,000 people from small and medium-sized B.C. businesses to participate in Alacrity Canada’s Digital Marketing Bootcamp; $19.4 million invested to help 33 small tourism-dependent municipalities build, adapt and diversify their tourism infrastructure, and another $13.6 million to support 54 targeted tourism development projects throughout the province; the Supply Chain Resiliency Program’s approximately $6 million for 24 projects to strengthen manufacturing supply chains and help protect the province from global supply interruptions; $10 million through the Accelerating Manufacturing Scale-Up Program for 43 projects to strengthen innovation and diversification and create new family-supporting jobs; and

“Our StrongerBC Economic Plan is built by British Columbians for British Columbians. The plan is the result of extensive engagement with businesses, Indigenous Peoples and communities throughout the province and sets out to make life better for everyone. The plan builds on the province’s strong economic recovery and sets out to tackle two long-standing challenges - inequality and climate change. Because an economy built for people is an economy built to succeed.”

Review the draft Waterfront Revitalization Master Plan
he City of Mission shared a draft land use plan for the Waterfront today that has something for everyone as the project entered into its third and final phase of public engagement. The draft Waterfront Revitalization Master Plan envisions the waterfront coming together as a place for jobs, a new urban heartbeat, and a way to connect with nature right in the middle of our city. Drawing on community input shared during phases 1 and 2 of the project, the plan sets out a path for revitalization that includes strategies for future land use, open spaces, and mobility. “Our planning has demonstrated that a made-in-Mission waterfront is realistic,” said Mayor Paul Horn. “Council’s enthusiasm for this project is grounded in how it will create jobs, improve transportation, embrace na-
ture and provide public access. Now we need to hear what our community thinks before we consider implementation.” In this phase of the engagement, the City is sharing the details of the draft plan and gathering the public’s comments about what is being proposed, particularly what the community is excited about and what they feel is still missing. The feedback shared in this phase will further inform the final draft before it is presented to Council later this spring. The plan is now available for review and has been developed into an easyto-use interactive map where renderings, photos, and text highlight core components of the plan to show Mission’s waterfront coming to life, right before our eyes. Experience the plan.

Statement on the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Rossdown Farms & Natural Foods is a fourth generation family business located in BC's Fraser Valley that grows and partners with select local farmers to process and supply wholesome poultry products
Ministry of Attorney General Premier John Horgan and Rachna Singh, Parliamentary Secretary for Anti-Racism Initiatives, have issued the following statement marking the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination:
Positions are now open for morning and afternoon skilled and unskilled individuals.available positions in cut and pack, Evisceration, Machine operations and Skilled cutters. Competitive wages, Full benefits and team environment.
“On the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we call on everyone in B.C. to stand together against racism and work toward a more equitable and inclusive province. “The last two years have been incredibly challenging. While the pandemic has brought out the best in most people, we have also seen it bring out the worst in some. Unfortunately, we have seen a staggering increase in hatred and racist actions targeting and scapegoating Indigenous Peoples and racialized communities since COVID-19 began. “At the same time, we are seeing a rise in white supremacy and brazen displays of hateful speech, symbols and acts that many hoped we had left behind us. Now more than ever, we must come together as a society to stand against this rising hate and say, ‘No more’.

These include reestablishing the BC Human Rights Commission, launching Resilience BC, our provincial anti-racism network, and reviewing and revising B.C.’s K-12 curriculum to reflect other histories and ways of learning. As part of this, the Ministry of Education recently announced that secondary students will soon need to complete Indigenous-focused coursework before they graduate.
“In the coming months we will be introducing new anti-racism data legislation to help to eliminate systemic racism by supporting secure race-based data collection. Your Airbags Weren’t Deployed During a Car Accident: Can You Sue the Car Manufacturer?
Airbags are supposed to protect you if you are involved in a motor vehicle accident. They should quickly deploy to protect your upper body and head from hitting the steering wheel or inside of the vehicle. When airbags fail, you may suffer more severe injuries that would otherwise have been prevented such as brain injury or a concussion. Lawsuits Against Airbag Manufacturers
If airbags do not deploy or fail to work as expected during a motor vehicle accident, you may be able to sue the manufacturer for personal injury compensation. There are many reasons that an airbag can fail, including faulty design, errors in manufacturing or producing the airbag, and use of defective or poor-quality components in the airbag system (e.g., sensors, modules, electrical parts/wiring). Courts can hold manufacturers liable to pay compensation for personal injury caused by negligent design, manufacturing defects, and/or failure to warn of dangers.

Help Jassa's Family Raise His Baby Twin Daughters Ryan Sidhu of Abby Wedding Decor & Flower’s is organizing this fundraiser for his friend Jassa's wife and twin baby daughters. Jassa Maan, better known by his wedding industry business name Maan Wedding Lighting, passed away suddenly at the age of 32 on February 25th due to Cardiac arrest. His sudden death has devastated his young family and has left his wife and infant twins in a very difficult situation. His twin daughters were born in October. However, their first few months in this world have been difficult as they spent majority of their time in the NICU due to premature birth. The funds collected through this campaign will assist his baby girls for their early childhood expenses. This fundraiser will also assist Jassa's wife in running his business in order to achieve an income for his family and to keep his legacy alive.

How COVID-19 tax benefits can help maximize your tax refund (NC) There is no one-size-fits-all approach to filing taxes. Filing taxes can be complicated, and the pandemic can make the process even more confusing. With a restructuring of COVID-19 benefit programs to provide relief for businesses and individuals, here are some tax updates you need to know before filing your taxes this season:
Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit (CWLB)
The existing Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) that provided support to workers who stopped working due to COVID-19 or who have a reduced income, will be replaced by the CWLB. This benefit will be the same as the CRB, consisting of $300 per week, and will Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit operate until May 7, 2022. Taking action to put future plans in motion could meet with some unexpected twists and turns involving other people. They might think you are moving too quickly or haven’t dealt with the details thoroughly enough. What they prefer could be more cautious or conservative. This might require you to reassess your priorities.
Whatever decisions you plan during January need to be viewed as an initial stage, so it would be wise not to attempt implementing them quickly, especially if somebody else is pushing for this. It will not be until mid February to mid March that you will be in a position of clarity and probably because of what goes on before that time.
Something needs to be brought to an end and while that should not be difficult to manage, wanting to do it could be the stumbling block. Clear vision of what the future will mean is difficult but there is an ending, new beginning energy involved. This could also require you to re-evaluate commitments up to early February.
There is a lack of clarity when it comes to others. It would be best that you observe their actions – it could tell you a lot more than what they have to say. Don’t rush into taking on any obligations, especially if you feel sorry for anybody or presume it will help. You need to wait and be asked and then carefully consider your answer.
Other people will prove interesting up to March. This could include coming into contact with people from the past from mid January to early February. They could seem very open with what they have to say or perhaps promise but you could find it will change, mystifying you. It will be from mid February onward it will make sense.
Don’t be too reliant on others when it comes to putting things in place – you will get a lot more done through getting on with these tasks yourself. You could begin to realise during January that daily routines need to be streamlined for complete success with changed structures. Complete clarity will arise from mid February.
This is a good time to present your ideas to somebody else – they could be keener to pay attention to them, even implement them than you anticipate. It won’t hurt to leave more regular routines to one side for the moment. You will enjoy having a break during January and perhaps visiting somewhere that has pleased you before.
Impulsive spending on something that could be useful in daily life can be worthwhile but on anything indulgent is a different matter. Family matters that haven’t been sorted in the past could come up again in January. You should take this seriously and give them thought. Final solutions can be established from mid February.
Social opportunities can come thick and fast this week. More practical things could curb being able to take advantage of them all though, so be sensible, otherwise, you could get over tired. From now to early February, put your mind to any details that need to be cleared up or plans that need to be put in place for this coming year.
Don’t be surprised to find yourself changing your mind or in a situation where you need to, from now to early February. This will concern something personal to you. Don’t expect to gain complete clarity yet – further contemplation could be required up to mid February. Then you can move ahead with certainty through to 10th March.
You will want things in order and could initially feel it is so. However, it would be best to make allowance for unexpected events or circumstances that could come out of nowhere and generate many distractions for you. Financial matters could need closer attention – there might be something you have forgotten to pay or allow for.
Hold yourself back from a serious commitment just because it feels right or seems to be what you have dreamed about. Don’t risk anything financially. There is something you need to contemplate to early February that could lead to re-looking at important priorities in life. You can make clearer decisions from 10th March.
