L’essenza delle cose si raggiunge solo osservandole fuori dal loro contesto, svincolate da ogni tipo di legame – che sia spaziale o temporale –, trasportandole in uno spazio senza tempo.

The essence of things can only be found by observing them out of their context, free of every type of association – whether spatial or temporal – and taking them to a timeless space.

È la contrapposizione tra realtà e apparenza: la realtà è diversa da ciò che sembra e che ciascuno percepisce in maniera diversa. Una semplicità apparente può nascondere significati più profondi, e anche una realtà che a prima vista assomiglia a quella conosciuta, se osservata in profondità e con attenzione, può rivelarsi completamente diversa ai nostri occhi.

It is the contrast between reality and appearance: reality differs from what it appears to be, and each of us will perceive it in a different manner. Something which appears to be simple can mask a deeper meaning, and even a reality which at first sight appears as something we know, but if examined more thoroughly and with greater attention, can seem totally different to our eyes.

Ci sono momenti in cui anche noi abbiamo bisogno di scrollarci di dosso il peso della quotidianità ed entrare in una dimensione privata, intima, sospesa. There are moments when we need to shrug off the cares of daily living and enter a dimension that is private, intimate, suspended. This is where absolute silence reigns, with a sensation of time suspended, which is when we discover the true sense of things, the sense of ourselves.

Entrare in quello spazio è come entrare dentro uno specchio, che è anche metafora di un mondo misterioso, parallelo, magico, di un mondo dove domina la creatività. In questa dimensione personale diventa ancora più evidente che la percezione di ogni cosa è legata all’osservatore. Non ci sono assoluti imprescindibili: il bello, il giusto, il corretto sono concetti che dipendono dal soggetto, da noi. Quando parliamo di gusti, di sensi, di idee, nessuno ha ragione e tutti hanno ragione. Questo scardina ogni certezza umana, ma ci rende ancora più liberi di gestire la nostra creatività. Sono gli spazi senza tempo i luoghi che incarnano questa dimensione, capaci di svincolarci dalle regole, dalla razionalità. I bagni Compab sono uno di questi.

To enter that space is to enter into a mirror, which is also a metaphor for a world which is mysterious, parallel, magical – a world in which creativity is the dominant force. In this personal dimension, it becomes increasingly evident that the perception of things depends on the observer. There are no inviolable absolutes: beauty, taste and correctness are concepts that depend on the individual – in other words, us. In terms of tastes, senses and ideas, none of these are right, but they are all right. This demolishes every human certainty, but gives us even more freedom to handle our creativity. It is those timeless spaces that embody this dimension and are able to free us from all rules and rationality. Bathrooms by COMPAB are an excellent example of this concept.
