A native of Tuskegee, Alabama, Lockhart earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Business-Marketing and a Masters of Education in Counseling and Student development from Tuskegee University. She later moved to Chicago, Illinois where she earned her PhD, a Doctor of Philosophy in Education: Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Illinois at Chicago. “I grew

New Residency Immigration Regulations Nueva Normativa sobre el permiso Residencia Beginning June 1, 2012, residency status in the Dominican Republic is governed by Immigration Law No. 285-04 and Immigration Regulation No. 631-11. The application process is essentially the same for both temporary and permanent residency, except for some additional documents required in permanent residency applications. The first step is to apply for a residency visa at the Dominican Consulate nearest to the applicant’s domicile. It is no longer possible to apply for residency from within the Dominican Republic, as was usually done before, except for foreigners either married to a Dominican national or with children born in the Dominican Republic whom are able apply for their residency visa directly through the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Santo Domingo, as long as the applicant can prove that he or she had been residing in the Dominican Republic prior to June 1st, 2012.

The results of the medical tests are ready in approximately 10 days. If the tests are normal, your attorney will proceed to formally file your application at the Department

Permanent residents must renew their residency card after 1 year; subsequent cards will be renewable every 4 years, except for retirees and ‘rentistas’ who must renew every two years. After 10 years, permanent residents will be issued a definitive residency card, not subject to renewal. An annual residency fee, however, will still have to be paid. An applicant wishing to renew his/ her temporary or permanent residency must provide the Immigration Department with a passport valid for at least 18 months, residency card, ‘cédula’, pictures, local police certificate, letter of guarantee, etc. To renew his/her permanent residency, the applicant must also undergo a new medical exam, and justify that the conditions under which residency was originally granted have not changed (employment, investment, pension, etc.) Once your application has been approved, you will have 6 months to appear before the Immigration Department to obtain your residency card; otherwise, your application will be cancelled. It is illegal for nonresidents to work in the Dominican Republic. Employers of nonresident workers will be subject to fines. Illegal workers are subject to deportation. Foreign documents must be apostilled or legalized at the Dominican Consulate depending on the jurisdiction. Documents in a language other than Spanish must be translated by the Consulate. The Consulate, upon granting your residency visa, will deliver to you a file with the original documents of your application. You should bring down these documents with you to the Dominican Republic to begin the process of your residency application. Your date of arrival in the Dominican Republic should be carefully coordinated with your attorney. Upon your arrival, your attorney or his/her assistant will accompany you to take the medical tests, sign the necessary forms and register your fingerprints at the Department of Immigration. This must be done within 30 days of your entry into the Dominican Republic.

Requirements for the visa application may vary depending on the particular Consulate where the visa application is filed. The following are the documents usually required: 1

Pictures of the applicant.

Original passport valid for at least 18 months.

3 Documents justifying the granting of the visa. For example, work contract with a Dominican company. 4 Medical certificate from the health authorities of the country of domicile of the applicant. 5 Criminal record certificate from the authorities of the country of domicile of the applicant. 6

Photocopy of the national I.D. of the applicant, and, if the applicant resides in a third country, photocopy of his/her residency card in the third country.

Birth certificate.

8 Marriage certificate, if applicable. 9 Letter of guarantee signed by a Dominican or a permanent resident of the Dominican Republic. 10 Documents justifying the applicant’s solvency.

El proceso de solicitud es esencialmente el mismo, tanto para la residencia provisional como para la residencia permanente, salvo algunos documentos adicionales que se requerirán para la residencia permanente. Para solicitar residencia en República Dominicana, el primer paso es obtener la visa de residencia. Deberá solicitar esta visa en el consulado dominicano de su lugar de domicilio o el más cercano a su país. Actualmente, no es posible solicitar visa de residencia en República Dominicana, salvo esposos o padres de nacionales dominicanos que estén residiendo en el país desde antes del 1 de junio de 2012. Todos los documentos públicos y privados provenientes del extranjero requieren apostilla o legalización consular, dependiendo de la jurisdicción. Además, todos los documentos redactados en idioma extranjero deberán ser traducidos al español por el consulado dominicano. Después de aprobada la visa, el consulado deberá entregar todos sus documentos legalizados y traducidos. Antes de viajar, es recomendable informar al abogado su itinerario de viaje. Durante su visita a la Dirección General de Migración, deberá imprimir sus huellas digitales en el formulario de solicitud y firmarlo

ante un oficial de migración. Estas diligencias deben ser realizadas en un plazo de 30 días contados a partir de la fecha de su entrada al país. En aproximadamente 10 días, el Departamento Médico de la Dirección General de Migración aprobará o rechazará los resultados de sus exámenes médicos. Si estos son aprobados, el abogado necesitará al menos otros 10 días para completar y someter su expediente ante dicha institución. El proceso de revisión del expediente se toma aproximadamente seis meses. Si su solicitud es aprobada, usted deberá presentarse personalmente con su abogado en la Dirección General de Migración y en la Junta Central Electoral para completar todas las diligencias y recibir su carné de residencia y cédula de identidad personal. Aun así, deberá mantener siempre su pasaporte vigente. La residencia temporal debe ser renovada por su titular personalmente en la Dirección General de Migración, 30 días antes de su vencimiento cada año. Para renovar su residencia temporal deberá presentar el carné de residencia, cédula, pasaporte con vigencia mínima de 18 meses, fotografías, certificado de no antecedentes penales de República Dominicana y carta firmada ante notario por su garante en República Dominicana. Los residentes temporales pueden solicitar residencia permanente 45 días antes de su quinto año de residencia en el país. Para


Living in Punta Cana | Viviendo en Punta Cana esto, deberá realizarse nuevamente los exámenes médicos, presentar el carné de residencia temporal, cédula, pasaporte con vigencia mínima de 18 meses, fotografías, certificado de no antecedentes penales de República Dominicana, carta firmada ante notario por su garante en República Dominicana, así como documentos que demuestren su solvencia económica y los demás requisitos que la Dirección General de Migración estime necesarios para completar su solicitud. El primer carné de residencia permanente será válido por 1 año, los carnés subsiguientes serán válidos por 4 años, salvo para los jubilados y rentistas que tendrán que renovar sus documentos cada 2 años. Después de 10 años de residencia permanente en el país, podrá recibir un carné definitivo sujeto al pago de las tasas fijadas por la Dirección General de Migración. Para la renovación de la residencia permanente se requieren los exámenes médicos, el carné de residencia, cédula, pasaporte con vigencia mínima de 18 meses, fotografías, certificado de no antecedentes penales de República Dominicana, carta firmada ante notario por su garante en República Dominicana y prueba de solvencia, los jubilados y los rentistas deberán demos-

trar que recibieron mensualmente en República Dominicana el pago de su pensión o de la renta que presentaron al solicitar residencia. Los titulares de residencias temporales o permanentes aprobadas deben presentarse ante la Dirección General de Migración para obtener sus documentos en un plazo máximo de 6 meses contados a partir de la fecha de la aprobación de su solicitud. De lo contrario, la Dirección General de Migración cancelará la residencia y el interesado deberá presentar una solicitud nueva. Es ilegal entrar, permanecer y trabajar en República Dominicana sin autorización o después del vencimiento del tiempo por el que fue autorizado, a pena de deportación.

But a serious disadvantage would be that the transfer is subject to a tax of 3% of the sale, the person is exposed to personal lawsuits, subject to the reservation hereditary and legal status of marriage, subject to tax Probate, and the property loses tourism incentives during a resell. If purchased in a commercial society, the benefits include exemption from transfer tax if the sale is by contribution in kind, they avoid

the legal restrictions on Probate, and expose the real property to be original obligations responsibility personal favors short-term resale and incentives are retained with the transfer of company shares to the acquirer. Although the disadvantages for the sale of the property requires an Assembly to approve the transaction, paying taxes on assets, and verify if the company is current on their tax obligations. Koldos’s Delicious Vegetarian Recipies Delicias Vegetarianas d’koldo Every day we are reminded how fortunate we are to live so close to the sea! So in effort to lighten up our summer fare we tried this effortless “couscous” dish. All the flavors of summer in a light and grain free dish!

tunados que somos de vivir tan cerca del mar! Así que preparamos un plato suave de verano, pimientos con cuscús.

Ingredients

Preparation

• 3 large red bell peppers.

Preheat oven to 200 º C / 400 º F for a few minutes. Cut the peppers in half, removing the seeds. Cook the couscous, put it in a pan, and when brown, add boiling water or vegetable broth, and let stand for 10 minutes stirring once it absorbs teh water, add a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil, while stirring. Fry the mushrooms for five minutes, add garlic, halved baby tomatoes, chopped onion, a tablespoon of peppermint, and tablespoon fresh cilantro and simmer for five minutes while stirring. Add the cooked couscous, and stir the whole mixture for five minutes. Sprinkle the lemon juice, seasoned with salt and pepper into the pot, mix all ingredients. After about three minutes, pour the mix into halved peppers. Cover with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes in the oven, until the peppers soften up, and are ready to serve. In a small bowl, mix the yogurt with a tablespoon parsley. Get the stuffed peppers from the oven, and serve on a plate, decorating them with dill leaves, accompanied by serving bowl with parsley yogurt, to add sauce over each pepper.

• 150 grams of cooked couscous. • ½ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil. • 300 grams of sliced mushrooms. • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped. • 6 baby tomatoes halved. • 1 onion finely chopped. • 1 tablespoon mint. • 1 lemon squeezed. • 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, finely chopped. • A little ground black pepper. • One teaspoon of salt. • 1 natural yoghurt. • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley. • Dill leaves for garnish.

• 3 Pimientos Rojos grandes.

Precalentamos el Horno a 200º C / 400 º F durante unos minutos. Cortamos los pimientos por la mitad, quitando las semillas. Cocinamos el Cuscús, poniéndolo en una sartén, y cuando esté dorado, le añadimos agua hirviendo o caldo de verduras, y se deja reposar removiéndolo durante 10 minutos, una vez esté inflado sin agua, le añadimos un chorrito de aceite de oliva extra virgen, removiéndolo. En una olla con aceite caliente, salteamos los champiñones durante cinco minutos, le agregamos ajo, tomates baby cortados por la mitad, la cebolla picada, la cucharada de hierbabuena, y la cucharada de cilantro fresco a fuego lento durante cinco minutos removiendo. Le añadimos el cuscús cocido, y removemos toda la mezcla durante cinco minutos. Rociamos el limón exprimido, sazonado con sal y pimienta en la olla, mezclando todos los ingredientes. Pasados unos tres minutos, ponemos la mezcla obtenida dentro de los pimientos cortados por la mitad, rellenándolos. Cubrimos con papel aluminio y horneamos durante 25 a 30 minutos en el horno, hasta que los pimientos estén suavecitos, y listos para servir. En un tazón pequeño, presentamos mezclado el yogurt natural, con la cucharada de perejil. Sacamos los pimientos rellenos del horno, y los presentamos en un plato, decorándolos con las hojas de eneldo, sirviéndolos acompañados del tazón de yogurt con perejil, que añadiremos como salsa encima de cada pimiento.
