Introduction June 9th, 2022 marks World Accreditation Day, a global initiative established by ILAC and IAF to promote the value of accreditation. Accreditation is an essential ingredient for competitiveness, access to new markets, productivity improvement, innovation of new products, and environmental protection, as well as the health and safety of populations. An efficient and effective quality and standards infrastructure, underpinned by accreditation, is key to a country’s growth, as well as being essential in creating a safer, cleaner, more equitable, and well-integrated world. Accreditation provides confidence in the quality, safety, and environmental credentials of goods, services, and processes.

What is Accreditation? The ISO Accreditation is the process of providing recognition to an organization for its competence in performing specific tasks in which certification of competency, authority, or credibility is presented. Accreditation is a voluntary, third-party-reviewed process. Organizations that issue credentials or certify third parties against official standards are themselves formally accredited by accreditation bodies (such as UKAS); hence they are sometimes known as "accredited certification bodies". The International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) provide international recognition to accreditation bodies. There are many internationally recognized accreditation bodies approved by the IAF and ILAC.
