Cricket is a very famous sport around the world and so it is in Australia too. Adelaide Oval being considered as one of the iconic stadiums of the country and considered as a recognised stadium accross the world, I have chosen it is a site to induldge into depth research about the location and why it makes the stadium so special. Adelaide Oval is situated in the parklands between the city centre and North Adelaide in South Australia. It is a host to mainly cricket but not limited to it and hosts sports like football, rugby, tennis etc. The research is based on how the vegetation can be increased around the area compared to the seating capacity of the stadium and are there any chances of expanding the stadium to increase the revenue by allowing more seating capacity.

Point Cloud The Process To get to the final results, there was a long and great journey which was experienced. The whole site on the left was segmented in point cloud and then different colours were expermineted to differentiate between buildings, stadium, vegetation and other similar features on the site. By getting a proper visualisation of the point cloud model, it is justified that the Oval has enough surrounding to expand itscircumference and hence increasing the seating capacity of the stadium. There are various empty spaces as well to grow more trees around it.

Chose 3 sites as an option and obtained point cloud from Elvis

Analyzation of the site with different colours and researched about its history and structure

Finalised 1 site and started to segment the site in Cloud Compare

The Adelaide Oval is 50 metres over the stunning clear green span of the turf, it’s also where thrill-seekers can climb skywards for probably the best view around. The Oval is on a flat ground as seen in the contours. There is enough vegetation around the stadium for fresh air to circulate around.

Section Analysis The Oval consists of a shell like strructure on the Southern Stand and the total capacity of the stadium is 53583 including standing room. The Adelaide Oval consists of architectural lighting with the ability to replicate any colour within the spectrum of a rainbow, sports lighting, and replacing its LED ribbons. There was also the installation of LED ribbons around the circumference of the oval at ground and elevated levels, installation of lights above the canopies, the replacement of flood lights under the roof trusses as well as the provision of completely new back end infrastructure involving electrical and fibre runs to all of the ribbons and lights. The stadium has more than 2100 square metres of grass and almost 900 square metres of viewing platforms. The Oval is made up of 18000 tonnes of concrete, 1500 tonnes of bricks, 700 tonnes of steel and 15 tonnes of non-ferrous metals.
