THINK TECH! 2012 GENERAL INFORMATION Please read the following information carefully. Both the student participant and the parents/guardians should be aware of the details surrounding the Think Tech! program. APPLICATION A complete application includes: • submission of selected classes • a $20.00 check payable to Purdue Research Foundation (Scholarships are available for students who have a strong desire to attend the program but who lack financial means. Contact Vanessa Buntin at vpuckett@purdue.edu or (765) 494-0887 for more information). • signed Parent Authorization Form and Guideline Agreement. Please mail all application materials in one envelope to: Think Tech! Attn: Vanessa Buntin College of Technology Knoy Hall of Technology 401 N. Grant Street West Lafayette, IN 47907-2021 DEADLINE The deadline to register is Monday, April 9, 2012. All required application documents must be in one envelope, postmarked by this date. Space is limited, so sign up early! WHEN TO ARRIVE Participants must be checked in at the drop-off location NO LATER than 5:45 p.m. each night of the program. The drop-off location will be listed on the class schedules of confirmed Think Tech! participants. Purdue University, the College of Technology and the Think Tech! program are not responsible for the participants until they are checked in. WHEN TO DEPART Participants must be checked out at 8:00 p.m. each night of the program. Please plan to pick-up your student at the designated drop-off locations for their safety.

CLASS SCHEDULES Class enrollments are on a first-come, first-served basis. Should any conflicts arise with scheduling, a Think Tech! program coordinator will contact you. A detailed class schedule will be sent to the student one week prior to the start of the program. EMERGENCY PHONE An emergency phone number will be provided on the class schedule to the confirmed participants of the Think Tech! program. NOTE Please DO NOT bring mp3 players, cell phones, jewelry or other valuables to the program. Purdue University, the College of Technology and the Think Tech! program cannot assume responsibility if lost or stolen. PARKING Parking is available in the Northwestern Visitors Parking garage or Grant Street Parking garage. Both are free and open to the public after 5:00 p.m. DOWNLOAD A CAMPUS MAP. The Northwestern Visitors Parking garage is denoted as “PGNW” and Grant Street Parking garage is denoted as “PGG”. SESSION OPTIONS & DESCRIPTIONS 1.
MY GREAT BIG VIRTUAL PRODUCT DESIGN
Instructor: Craig Miller, computer graphics technology Be part of a design team for products as diverse as airplanes, ships and consumer appliances. This class will focus on the tools you’ll need to be a successful team player as new products are designed and built. You’ll create virtual products and plan for them to be manufactured, all with the help of computer-aided design, virtual manufacturing and product data management software. See examples of real-world projects for The Boeing Company, Chrysler and Rolls-Royce and meet with Purdue alumni who do similar work every day. 2.
AVIATION EXPERIENCE: LEARN, FLY, COMPETE
Instructor: Stewart Schreckengast, aviation technology Tour and try out the flight simulators at Purdue’s airport as part of this class focused on the science of aerodynamics. You’ll discover how airplanes stay airborne and learn basic flying maneuvers. The class includes a paper airplane design and flight challenge. Your experiences will also help aviation educators improve the way they teach the same material to their students. 3.
COMPUTER ANIMATION: FROM IDEA TO SCREEN
Instructor: Raymond Hassan, computer graphics technology Join forces with your classmates to plan and create a short animated movie. In the process, you’ll discover the variety of jobs and duties necessary to successfully move the movie from idea to screen (hint: there’s a lot!). The class includes exposure to several computer software packages and 3D rendering. Share your finished project with friends and family on a provided flash drive.
