Message from Management Since we last communicated with you, there has been steady progress towards our target date of May 2013 for the first shovel in the ground. We have commissioned the Engineers to complete the detailed drawings required for the infrastructure and for the Phase 1 buildings. These drawings are necessary first for approval by the Barbados Building Standards Authority, second to solicit for the construction bids and thirdly for the actual construction, which we expect to last for an additional 16 months.
Barbados is steadily emerging from the Great Recession relatively unscathed. The Winter tourist season, which runs from mid-November to mid-April, is expected to see the arrival of 145,000 passengers from charter flights and cruise ships in addition to its normal tourist arrivals on scheduled flights. The additional charters will originate from Germany and the United Kingdom. Our on-going discussions with Trizac Capital (Hong Kong) have culminated in a letter of commitment for a substantial equity participation in Pure Beach Resort and Spa. We are also in negotiations with Interval International and its affiliate, Preferred Residences, who we confidently expect to be our partner in designing our shared residence management systems. We have also re-launched our upgraded website www.purebeachresort.com, which will soon include a “members” section featuring a log-on area exclusively for Pure Beach members.

BIA hosts FCCA VIII Biennale The Barbados Institute of Architects (BIA) recently hosted the 8th Biennale of the Federation of Caribbean Associations of Architects (FCAA). This distinguished regional conference was headquartered at the Barbados Hilton Hotel from September 27 – 30, under the theme, “The Joy of Architecture”. This is the only regional event that brings together architects from the English, Spanish, French and Dutch Caribbean. The combination of the gathering of individuals and the scope of events provides a unique opportunity to establish the state of practice of Caribbean architecture – with insights into its social, cultural, economic and environmental contexts.

New Private Trust Companies Bill passed The Private Trust Companies Bill 2012 passed by the Barbados parliament in October will put Barbados' international business sector in a much better position. That's according to Minister of International Business George Hutson who led off debate on the Bill in the House of Assembly. The legislation will make Barbados more competitive, when it comes up against other countries like the Bahamas and Cayman Islands as it makes it easier to establish a Trust company to manage the finances of individual families.

Lubner Group Create Interiors With Timeless Designs Selected To Provide Design Services for Barbados Resort By Marge Lennon
integrity straight through to the end. The result is custom-designed pieces that are unique to each property and often more price effective, resulting in cost savings to the client.”
Transforming a new residential shared-use development from drawing board renderings to reality requires a lengthy and costly collaboration between architects, builders, contractors, and landscapers. Long before construction is completed, a dilemma arises concerning how to furnish the residential units in a manner that ensures strong sales that ultimately result in profitability for the developer. “Whether he is creating a new property or renovating an older one, the most precious commodity a developer has is his time,” said Dan Lubner, president of the Lubner Group and Clive Daniel Home, internationally recognized for their award-winning hospitality and commercial interiors. “Working with a single-source provider like ours gives comfort to the developer who appreciates our expertise in crafting units with efficiency, durability and timeless interior design. Because we are fully integrated, our involvement reduces the number of touch points along the way since we handle design, manufacturing, procurement, delivery and installation, eliminating the need for other costly contractors.” Since a well-received interior design is such a critical factor in the sales process, Lubner and his team also know the importance of designing interiors that remain popular and “in vogue” for many years. Adds Lubner, “Our staff designers have a thorough understanding of style changes and various trends, enabling them to make selections that will create a timeless design for many years to come.”
The Lubner Group is currently implementing these special skills on the Caribbean island of Barbados, where they have been retained by Pure Beach Resort & Spa to provide design services and custom furnishings for more than 300 condominium villas in this master planned, mix-use development. The five-star beachfront residence and hotel development is expected to include luxury residential accommodations plus a boutique hotel, convention facility and world-class amenities. Developed for fractional and full ownership use, construction of the first phase began in February 2012 with completion of the entire $600 million project expected by December 2018. “It has been an exciting opportunity for us to provide our design services to Pure Beach Resort at the ground level, added Lubner. “Our design team will create a new line of custom furnishings specifically for this luxury property, manufactured by Clive Daniel Home. We will also coordinate every facet of the design, manufacturing, shipping, and installation process.” Nancy Woodhouse, IDS, VP of Design & Product Development and Ron Nowfel IDS, Regional VP Orlando area are leading the Pure Beach design efforts. Said Woodhouse, who has left her award-winning design imprint on over a dozen timeshare resorts around the world, “Often when there are multiple procurers of furnishings, the original design becomes diluted and procurement agents try to find ways to cut costs. When we are at the helm of the design process overseeing quality control at the factories crafting our furnishings, we are able to maintain the initial design

Working around the globe, it is critical to understand what makes each area unique, including cultures, psychographics and vacationing habits of the prospective buyer. The Lubner Group design team also honors each property’s history and is cognizant of regional complexities in design, materials selection and installation integral to a successful result. They must also become experts on how the wood or metal products will react to a local climate. What works well in a wooded environment will not work on a beach. The results are stunning designs which match each client’s initial inspiration, manufactured to precise specifications in quality, long-lasting materials that are properly installed and delivered. Working in different countries provide challenges in logistics, customs, and taxes, where the Lubner Group has considerable experience. The Lubner Group’s designers have created interiors for iconic properties such as The Breakers Palm Beach, the Ritz-Carlton Naples, MGM City Centre and the Carriage House in Las Vegas, Disney World, Coconut Beach Resort in Key West, several Bluegreen and Hilton Grand Vacations resorts; as well as other properties in Costa Rica, Jamaica, Anguilla and Puerto Rico. “At each of these properties, said Lubner, “we created a partnership in design and marketing. We provided flawless design, logistics and implementation with budgets scrutinized to ensure the best value engineering. Our ability to custom-manufacture much of the furnishings allowed us to provide better function and design while remaining within the client’s design vision and budget.” The Lubner Group shares their knowledge both domestically and internationally with commercial design clients from Denver to Dubai, including condominiums, hotels, timeshare and fractional properties. They also continue to play a major role in helping customers refresh, renew and revitalize their resort properties … from inspiration to installation.
