A SCHOOL My wife and I would like to welcome you personally to Durban Christian Centre Bible Institute, a School of the Spirit.

DCCBI is no ordinary school but indeed an extraordinary school, established by God and anointed by His Spirit, emphasizing the authority of His Word, as well as the manifestation of His Spirit. This is how Jesus taught His disciples. Not only did He expound the scriptures to them, but He also demonstrated in Spirit, that which He taught. This was something that the religious people of His day could not cope with and when challenged Jesus answered them by saying “You are mistaken not knowing the scriptures or God’s power.” (Matthew 22:29). Jesus emphasized the importance of the two, which is exactly what we do at DCCBI. With our anointed staff and faculty and state of the art facilities, we will ensure that you are exposed to an atmosphere 04

saturated with the presence of a real, living Jesus. In such an atmosphere, we are confident that the Lord will accomplish in you all He has purposed and planned. There is no one that can be all that they want to be, but at the Bible Institute we will help you to be exceptional for the Lord. The Bible Institute is the place where you will not only know the scriptures but also the power of His Spirit, because we like to do things the way Jesus did them.

OUR I

n 1979, there was a dearth of Bible knowledge, generally within the Body of Christ in Durban, South Africa. The glaring need for the uncompromised teaching of present truth and the power of the Word resulted in the establishment of the Christian Bible Training College by Pastors Fred and Nellie Roberts. The College became known for its authoritative, relevant teaching of the current move of God and the understanding of the Holy Spirit. Students were taught to operate powerfully in the gifts of the Holy Spirit and an undeniable flow of the Spirit became synonymous with the school. The Christian Bible Training College adopted its curriculum from the Dallas-based Christ for the Nations Institute, (CFNI) which at the time was the largest Charismatic Bible School in the world. Pastor Neville MacDonald, who was a graduate of CFNI, was appointed as the College’s first Dean. Upon moving to Cape Town and founding Good Hope Christian Centre, the deanship went to another graduate of CFNI, Fiona Cudmore. During this time, the College was based at the Lyric Theatre, in Umbilo Road. When Fiona Cudmore left to City of Life in Pinetown, she was succeeded by Anne Bellingan, who came from Danville Park Girls High School. The College moved from the Lyric to the Alhambra Theatre. During this period, a close association

Hundreds of students from across the country enrolled for study programmes taking them up to a Masters level. Anne Bellingan left to the United Kingdom. In 1992, Dr Julia and Phillip Hawkins, after an illustratious High School career steered the Bible School through a further transition as the school moved to Galway Road in Mayville, which was the home of the Durban Christian Centre and the Jesus Dome. During this period, College flourished in their relationship with Christian International University with a learnership reaching into the hundreds. Significant changes were effected under the deanship of John Torrens in 1996 after the Hawkins left to Johannesburg. A renewed emphasis DURBAN CHRISTIAN CENTRE BIBLE INSTITUTE I CATALOGUE 2015

was placed on mission trips and student ministry within the local church. His hands-on-approach was a tremendous source of blessing and he placed renewed emphasis on the move of the Holy Spirit and a more practical curriculum. For the first time, the school embarked on an international mission trip programme and in 2000, a new feeding scheme was initiated at the Berea Road church, a ministry that continues to this day. During this period, the College attained provisional accreditation with the Government under the Higher Education Act. However, this new education act the College was no longer permitted to maintain their relationship with Christian International University. When Pastor John Torrens assumed greater responsibility within Durban Christian Centre in 2003, the 07

continued...

College appointed Wayne Hopf who at age 34 was the youngest Dean to have been appointed. He introduced a young, vibrant atmosphere into the College which is still eminent today. His love for the move of the Spirit has resulted in powerful Holy Ghost visitations. During this phase, the College changed its name to the International Christian Bible College to represent fully the international flavour of the ministry in the mid-90’s. Under the principalship of Pastor John Torrens, who was now an assistant pastor at Durban Christian Centre, a School of Worship was established in 2003. A decision was made to relinquish the College’s South African government accreditation in preference for an international recognition once again. A Bachelor’s short course was established in order to raise men and women of God fit for five-fold ministry. The legacy of international mission trips has continued. The alumni of the College have established churches throughout the city of Durban. Further afield churches have been planted in the Netherlands, England, Spain, the US, Australia and Cape Town. Previous graduates include Neville Norden (Lewende Woord, Pretoria), Erik Frolik (The Netherlands), Peter Rasmussen and Eric Tocknell (Hillcrest Christian Fellowship). 08 DURBAN CHRISTIAN CENTRE BIBLE INSTITUTE I CATALOGUE 2015

OUR

A feature of the Institute is the Golden Nuggets lectures that are given by visiting international speakers, who minister at Durban Christian Centre during the year. In order to broaden the student’s background each student must make one scheduled, educational tour to Israel.

Durban Christian Centre Bible Institute is a school with a difference, a School of the Spirit. The Institute is not limited to the teaching of dry theology but teaches the current move of the Holy Ghost.

T

here is an emphasis on faith; the gifts of the Holy Spirit; then understanding the work and the move of the Holy Ghost. The aim is to impart the ability to flow in the dynamics of the spontaneous leading of Holy Spirit leading into worship, prayer and signs, wonders and miracles. The Institute has a passionate zeal for winning the lost for Jesus. Every student is trained to win souls. In the past three years 4 200 souls have been led to the Lord during various outreach campaigns. The curriculum is not classroombound. Students are expected to take

what they learn and apply it in the outside world. Outreach programmes are scheduled into the timetable every week. Students are expected to be involved in at least 7-½ hours of ministry every week.

Each day begins with powerful chapel sessions. It is during these devotional sessions that students are taught to flow in the Spirit and operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These worship and prayer sessions are intense and by far the favourite times of the student. The lectures are balanced with Biblical, Theological and Ministry

Every student is expected to participate in one mission trip annually. During these trips the student ministry ranges from preaching, leading life groups, evangelism, drama, leading prayer meetings, conducting youth meetings, praying for the sick, hospital and orphanage visitations as well as church maintenance.

courses. The faculty eagerly seeks every opportunity to impart into the lives of the students. It is not unusual for a lecture to take an unexpected turn as the Holy Spirit has His way in the timetable. The emphasis is undeniably on the ministry. During lectures on activating the prophetic, students are given the opportunity to practise what they are being taught. In other subjects such as Children’s Ministry and Effective Youth Leadership, demonstration lectures are conducted with a view to apply what they have learnt. During lectures on the Holy Spirit, time is given to reflect on the unctioning of the Holy Ghost- whether it be in worship, prayer, crying or laughing.

DURBAN CHRISTIAN CENTRE BIBLE INSTITUTE I CATALOGUE 2015

An emphasis is placed on the unity of the student body as well as Christian character. Students are expected to demonstrate exemplary Christian character. It is the intention of the Institute to assist students in improving their faith, by adding goodness, understanding, self-control, patience, devotion to God, concern for others and love. When students keep growing in this way, it testifies that what they know about our Lord Jesus Christ has made their life useful and meaningful. “For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:8) 11

CHURCH Students are equipped to make them Biblically literate. Lectures are conducted in the morning and times are allocated to the students to put into practice what they have heard.

During the lectures that include Biblical, Theological and Ministry courses, students are taught not just what to do, but how to implement the truths they are taught. Practical experience is gained during mission trips, church ministry under the guidance of an Area Pastor, evangelism and praying for the sick during hospital and hospice visits.

SCHOOL OF MINISTRY Invariably, we have found that the student not only draws closer to God during their stay at DCCBI, but the continuous, honest and avid interest shown in their personal, spiritual development from the faculty results in their growth as leaders. NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY

VISION The vision and purpose of Durban Christian Centre Bible Institute is to help Christian men and women become Biblically literate and spiritually gifted servants of Christ; to minister in all the nations of the earth; equipped for the work of the ministry. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, every effort has been made to ensure that we have not strayed from the original vision. The essence and focus is “Jesus Christ and Him crucified.” (1 Corinthians 2:2).

Students of any race, colour, nationality and ethnic origin are admitted in the administration of its educational policies or any school administered programme.

Non South African students will be accepted with the supporting documentation required in terms of South African legislation. LOCATION The Institute head office is located approximately 5km west of metropolitan Durban, conveniently situated alongside the N2 highway in Mayville. Durban, the largest KwaZulu Natal city, has an estimated population of three and a half million people and is one of South Africa’s most popular holiday destinations. It is one of the busiest ports in Africa.

Practical experience is gained during mission trips, church ministry under the guidance of an Area Pastor, evangelism and praying for the sick during hospital and hospice visits.

STATEMENT

The purpose of the Institute is to prepare Christians called to full-time ministry, those desiring additional training for service in the Body of Christ, as well as those desiring a greater knowledge of the Word. We will train men and women in the Word of God, in true worship and in the work of the ministry through: 1. Sound doctrinal classroom teaching on fundamental concepts and principles from the Bible. A foundation of knowledge from the Word of God is essential to success in any Christian endeavour. 2. Hands-on training with close supervision and accountability. Classroom teaching alone is not sufficient to equip ministers adequately to meet and overcome the challenges of is generation. 3. Exposure to nationally and internationally proven ministries.

STATEMENT 1. We believe the Scriptures to be inspired and inherent Word of God, and as such they are revelation from God to man, the infallible rule of faith and conduct (2 Timothy 3:16; 1 Peter 2:2). 2. We believe in one God, eternal and self-existent, self-revealed and manifested to man as Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Deuteronomy 6:4; Mark 12:29; Isaiah 43:10 – 11; Matthew 28:19). 3. We believe that Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary (John 11:14; Matthew 1:18; Luke 1:26; Luke 2:7; 1 Timothy 2:5). 4. We believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross and she His blood as a sacrifice for our sins. He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Majesty on High (1 Peter 2:24; Hebrews 9:11 – 14; 1 Corinthians 15:3 – 8; Acts 2:32 – 36; Hebrews 10:12). 5. We believe in the ministry of the Holy Spirit to glorify Christ, to convict men of sin, righteousness and judgement and to empower the believer (John 15:26; John 16:8, 14; Acts 1:8). 6. We believe that man was created in the image of God, but fell into sin (Genesis 1:26 – 31; Genesis 3:1 – 7; Romans 5:12 – 21). 7. We believe that man be justified only by grace through personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ

(Ephesians 4:11 – 12; Romans 3:24 – 28). 8. We believe that water baptism by immersion identifies us with the death and burial of Christ, and that we should arise to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:3 – 9; 1 Peter 3:21). 9. We believe in the Lord’s Supper consisting of the elements – bread and the cup of the fruit of the vine. It is the symbol expressing our sharing the Divine Nature of our Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 1:14); a memorial of His suffering and death, and a prophecy of His second coming (1 Corinthians 11:26), and is enjoined on all believers “until He comes”! 10. We believe that the true Church is composed of such persons who, through saving faith in Jesus Christ, have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit (1 Peter 2:24 – 25; Ephesians 2:19 – 20). 11. We believe in the personal, literal coming of our Lord Jesus Christ to judge both the living and the dead (1 Thessalonians 4:16; Hebrews 9:27; 1 Corinthians 15:51 – 52; Revelation 20:11 – 15; Acts 24:15). 12. We believe in the bodily resurrection of all the dead (Acts 24:15; 1 Corinthians 15:35 – 44; Revelation 20:11 – 15). 13. We believe in everlasting blessedness for the believer, with judgement and everlasting punishment for the unbelievers

(Matthew 7:21 – 23; Revelation 20:11 – 15; John 5:29). 14. We believe that Christ wants the members of His Church to carry the Gospel into all the world (Matthew 28:18 – 20; Acts 1:8). 15. We believe that the Holy Spirit is at work today with the Church through His gifts, fruits and anointed ministers (Acts 2:39; Romans 12:6 – 8; 1 Corinthians 12:11; Galatians 5:22 – 23; Ephesians 4:11; 1 Corinthians 12:26). 16. We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are given to every believer and need to be activated and exercised to fulfil their divine purpose of blessing the Body of Christ (Acts 2:39; 2 Timothy 1:6). 17. We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit wherein the Spirit is sent to gift each believer with their own private praise language used to edify themselves, and that such a baptism empowers the believer to be effective for Christ (Acts 1:8; Acts 2:39; 1 Corinthians 14:2; Jude 20; 1 Corinthians 14:18; Acts 19:1 – 6). 18. We believe in divine healing of the body as part of the atoning work of Jesus Christ. This healing can be received and also ministered to others by various gifts (1 Corinthians 12:8 – 10; Matthew 8:16 – 17; 1 Peter 2:24). 19. We believe in the full function of the five-fold ministry, which was given to perfect and equip

the saints so they can enter into the work of the ministry, thereby edifying the whole Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:11 – 16; 1 Corinthians 12:28). 20. We believe in the present day ministries of the apostles and prophets, which Christ has set in the Church as foundational and revelational ministries. We believe these two ministries will be restored to function in full power and authority before the second coming to Christ (Ephesians 2:20; Acts 3:21). 21. We believe that the Church of Jesus Christ is God’s instrument to establish and extend God’s Kingdom until the literal coming of Christ to reign over all the earth (Revelation 11:15). 22. We believe in the autonomy of each Local Church and that itinerant ministries should be based out of and related to a Local Church and accountable to the Senior Pastor. The Local Church shall at all times be beholden to and abide in all aspects to the provisions of this Constitution (Acts 13:1; Acts 15). 23. We believe that the church is the Body of Christ expressed as the church individual, the church local and the church universal and invisible. AS such, we believe the church to be more than just a building or a gathering of people. It is a body living in relationship and harmony under the direction

DURBAN CHRISTIAN CENTRE BIBLE INSTITUTE I CATALOGUE 2015

of the Head, Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 6:15; 2 Corinthians 1:1; Romans 12:4 – 5; Ephesians 4:11 – 16). 24. We believe in church disciple administered within the church in a spirit of meekness and confidentiality. The purpose of such discipline is the restoration of the one subject to the discipline and/or the purification of the church. The steps of discipline are, one-on-one private confrontation, private confrontation with witnesses, and finally exposure to the church for judgement leading to restoration or separation (Matthew 18:15 – 20; Galatians 6:1; Romans 16:17; 2 John 9 – 11; 1 Corinthians 2:6 – 8; 1 Timothy 5:20). 25. We believe as members of the same Body of Christ, baptised by one Spirit into one Body that we must endeavour to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, and as such that we should not bring a lawsuit against another Christian, individual or ministry unless all Scriptural principals have been complied with through efforts of mediation. We believe that all such disputes should be resolved within the Body of Christ without taking them before unbelievers of judgement (1 Corinthians 6:1 – 8; Ephesians 4:3 – 6).

SCHOOL OF MINISTRY DIVISIONS OF BIBLE COURSES UPMMA-0114B: The Power to Multiply - The Book of Acts A study of the triumphant spread of the Gospel through the power of the Holy Spirit from the narrow borders of Judaism into the Gentile world, as told by Luke. Students will embark on an exciting and dynamic journey as they study the newly birthed church in action and learn the secret of a life of power in the Holy Ghost. UFFFO-0114B: From Faith to Faith – the Book of Romans – Part 1 This is a study of one of the most important books in the Bible. A proper understanding of this epistle is a necessity for everyone serious about Christian life and ministry. The student will learn about the Apostle Paul and his eagerness for the Gospel and evangelism. We then turn to the wrath of God as a contrast for what follows in this letter. The course then examines the revelation of God’s righteousness and God’s people united in Christ along with many other grand themes. This course studies the first six chapters of Romans. UKLRT-0114B: Kingdom Living – the Book of Romans – Part 2 Beginning with Romans 7 this course is a follow on from the course From faith to faith. The course looks at the role of God’s Law and Christian

discipleship. The student then learns about the power of God’s Spirit in the life of God’s children. The course then examines the plan of God for Jews and Gentiles and looks at the will of God for changed relationships. UAGWC-0114B: Abounding in God’s Work – the First Corinthian Letter This letter looks at life in the local church as Paul teaches in the first book of Corinthians. The perfect church is explained in the course. We then look to see how Paul brings about discipline in the church with a view of learning from his apostolic leadership. How do we deal with division in the church? We look at true wisdom and how we can be fools for the sake of Christ. The course also looks at the freedom and sensitivity we should have towards others. It looks at the freedom to restrict our freedom and the dangers that freedom brings. This course is designed to help the student grow in maturity. UPWTC-0114B: Power in Weakness – the Second Corinthian letter The student learns great lifechanging leadership lessons from the manner in which Paul approaches the church of Corinth and the problems they had with him. He addresses the lies and deceit and misunderstanding. We also look at the ministry of the new covenant and compare the eternal glory of Jesus

with the fading glory of Moses. We also find inspiration for an expression of God’s grace that Paul uses as a powerful example within the Body of Christ. An important letter for those in the ministry or planning to enter the ministry full time. USBFA-0114B: Saved by Faith Alone – the Book of Galatians A glorious book declaring the perils of legalism and bondage, and establishing the essential truth of salvation and faith. The student will get a fuller understanding of the Gospel. Justification is by faith alone. However we answer the question: Where does works feature in your salvation? This letter deals with the essence of the Christian faith and results in a greater appreciation of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. UCCOH-0114B: The Case for Christ – Part One: the book of Hebrews This course looks at the first 5 chapters of the book of Hebrews. This course beautifully places its focus on the wonderful person of Jesus Christ. The majestic Christ who is superior to angels is closely studied. The course shows that Christ is our pioneer, liberator and apostle. The student is taught about holding firm to the end as the Great High Priest Jesus Christ is explained. The supremacy of Jesus is shown over the prophets, angels, Moses, Joshua, Aaron and the rituals of Judaism.

42 DURBAN CHRISTIAN CENTRE BIBLE INSTITUTE I CATALOGUE 2015

UFAFH-0114B: Full Assurance of Faith – Part Two: the book of Hebrews This course looks at the last 8 chapters of the book of Hebrews and is a follow on from the course: The Case for Christ – the book of Hebrews. In this course the student looks at the remarkable shadow of Melchizedek – this voice from the past. The student looks at how revolutionary the Christian worship experience truly is. The student then looks at the encouragement, the warning and the strength that comes the way of the Christian in the book. The book of Hebrews has been ranked amongst the top 3 most important books of the New Testament. You will not be disappointed with this subject.

UKGCR-0114B: The Kingdom’s Glorious Culmination - the Book of Revelation Written to encourage the first-century Christians who were experiencing great suffering this course will no doubt result in every student being equally encouraged. Revelation has brought comfort and hope in every age of the church. It also contains vast eschatological propositions, however its main message is that the Lamb has conquered and all who trust Him are overcomers.
